A Parábola dos Lavradores

1 Então, Jesus começou a lhes falar por parábolas:

— Certo homem plantou uma vinha; colocou uma cerca ao redor dela, cavou um tanque para prensar as uvas e construiu uma torre. Depois, arrendou a vinha a alguns lavradores e foi fazer uma viagem. 2 Na época da colheita, enviou um servo aos lavradores para receber deles parte do fruto da vinha. 3 Eles, porém, o agarraram, o espancaram e o mandaram embora de mãos vazias. 4 Então, enviou-lhes outro servo, mas lhe bateram na cabeça e o humilharam. 5 Ele enviou ainda outro, o qual mataram. Enviou muitos outros; em alguns bateram, e a outros mataram.

6 — Faltava-lhe ainda um para enviar: o seu filho amado. Por fim, enviou-o, dizendo: "Eles respeitarão o meu filho".

7 — Os lavradores, porém, disseram uns aos outros: "Este é o herdeiro. Venham, vamos matá-lo, e a herança será nossa". 8 Assim, eles o agarraram, o mataram e o lançaram fora da vinha.

9 — O que fará, então, o dono da vinha? Virá, matará aqueles lavradores e dará a vinha a outros. 10 Vocês nunca leram esta passagem das Escrituras:

"A pedra que os construtores rejeitaram

tornou-se a pedra angular.

11 Isso vem do Senhor

e é algo maravilhoso para nós"?*12.10,11 Sl 118.22,23.

12 Então, procuraram um meio de prendê-lo, pois perceberam que era contra eles que havia contado aquela parábola. No entanto, tinham medo da multidão, por isso o deixaram e foram embora.

O pagamento de imposto a César

13 Mais tarde, enviaram a Jesus alguns dos fariseus e dos herodianos para o apanharem em alguma coisa que ele dissesse. 14 Estes se aproximaram dele e disseram:

— Mestre, sabemos que és íntegro e que não te deixas influenciar por ninguém, porque não te prendes à aparência dos homens, mas ensinas o caminho de Deus conforme a verdade. É certo pagar imposto a César ou não? 15 Devemos pagar ou não?

Jesus, porém, conhecendo a hipocrisia deles, perguntou:

— Por que vocês estão me pondo à prova? Tragam-me um denário*12.15 O denário era uma moeda de prata equivalente à diária de um trabalhador braçal. para que eu o veja.

16 Eles lhe trouxeram a moeda, e ele lhes perguntou:

— De quem é esta imagem e esta inscrição?

— De César — responderam.

17 Então, Jesus lhes disse:

— Deem*12.17 Ou Devolvam. a César o que é de César e a Deus o que é de Deus.

E ficaram admirados com ele.

A ressurreição e o casamento

18 Depois, os saduceus, que dizem não haver ressurreição, aproximaram-se dele com a seguinte questão:

19 — Mestre, Moisés nos deixou escrito que, se um homem morrer e deixar mulher, mas não deixar filhos, o irmão desse homem deverá se casar com a viúva e gerar descendência para o seu irmão. 20 Havia sete irmãos. O primeiro casou-se e morreu sem deixar descendência. 21 O segundo casou-se com a viúva, mas também morreu sem deixar filhos. O mesmo aconteceu com o terceiro. 22 Nenhum dos sete deixou filhos. Finalmente, morreu também a mulher. 23 Na ressurreição,*12.23 Há manuscritos que acrescentam ressurreição, quando ressuscitarem. de qual deles será esposa, visto que os sete foram casados com ela?

24 Jesus respondeu:

— Acaso não estão errados pelo fato de não conhecerem as Escrituras nem o poder de Deus? 25 Quando os mortos ressuscitam, não se casam nem são dados em casamento, mas são como os anjos nos céus. 26 Quanto à ressurreição dos mortos, vocês não leram no livro de Moisés, no relato da sarça, como Deus lhe disse: "Eu sou o Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Isaque e o Deus de Jacó"?*12.26 Êx 3.6.27 Ele não é Deus de mortos, mas de vivos. Vocês estão muito enganados!

O maior mandamento

28 Um dos mestres da lei aproximou-se e os ouviu discutindo. Percebendo que Jesus lhes dera uma boa resposta, perguntou-lhe:

— Qual é o mandamento mais importante de todos?

29 Jesus respondeu:

— O mais importante é este: "Ouça, Israel: o Senhor, o nosso Deus, é o único Senhor.*12.29 Ou Deus, o Senhor, é um.30 Ame ao Senhor, o seu Deus, com todo o seu coração, com toda a sua alma, com todo o seu entendimento e com todas as suas forças".*12.30 Dt 6.4,5.31 O segundo é este: "Ame ao seu próximo como a você mesmo".*12.31 Lv 19.18. Não existe mandamento maior do que estes.

32 — Muito bem, Mestre — disse o mestre da lei. — Estás certo ao dizeres que Deus é único, que não existe outro além dele 33 e que amá-lo com todo o coração, com todo o entendimento e com todas as forças e amar ao próximo como a si mesmo é mais importante do que todos os sacrifícios e ofertas.

34 Vendo que ele tinha respondido sabiamente, Jesus lhe disse:

— Você não está longe do reino de Deus.

Daí em diante, ninguém mais ousava fazer-lhe perguntas.

O Cristo é Senhor de Davi

35 Enquanto ensinava no templo, Jesus perguntou:

— Como os mestres da lei dizem que o Cristo é filho de Davi? 36 O próprio Davi, falando pelo Espírito Santo, disse:

"O Senhor disse ao meu Senhor:

‘Assente-se à minha direita

até que eu faça dos seus inimigos

um estrado para os seus pés’ ".*12.36 Sl 110.1.

37 — O próprio Davi o chama "Senhor". Então, como ele pode ser seu filho?

A grande multidão o ouvia com prazer.

38 Ao ensinar, Jesus dizia:

— Cuidado com os mestres da lei. Eles gostam de andar com roupas especiais, das saudações nas praças, 39 dos assentos mais importantes nas sinagogas e dos lugares de honra nos banquetes. 40 Devoram a casa das viúvas e, para disfarçar, fazem longas orações. Esses homens serão punidos com maior rigor!

A oferta da viúva

41 Jesus sentou-se em frente do lugar onde eram colocadas as contribuições e observava a multidão colocando o dinheiro na caixa de ofertas. Muitos ricos lançavam ali grandes quantias. 42 Então, uma viúva pobre chegou e colocou duas pequeninas moedas de cobre, de muito pouco valor.*12.42 Grego: 2 leptos, que valiam 1 quadrante.

43 Chamando a si os seus discípulos, Jesus disse a eles:

— Em verdade lhes digo que esta viúva pobre colocou na caixa de ofertas mais do que todos os outros. 44 Todos deram do que lhes sobrava, mas ela, da sua pobreza, deu tudo o que possuía para viver.

The Parable of the Tenants

1 Jesus then began to speak to them in parables: "A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place.2 At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard.3 But they seized him, beat him and sent him away empty-handed.4 Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on the head and treated him shamefully.5 He sent still another, and that one they killed. He sent many others; some of them they beat, others they killed.

6 "He had one left to send, a son, whom he loved. He sent him last of all, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’

7 "But the tenants said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’8 So they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.

9 "What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others.10 Haven’t you read this passage of Scripture:

" ‘The stone the builders rejected

has become the cornerstone;

11 the Lord has done this,

and it is marvelous in our eyes’* 12:11 Psalm 118:22,23 ?"

12 Then the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders looked for a way to arrest him because they knew he had spoken the parable against them. But they were afraid of the crowd; so they left him and went away.

Paying the Imperial Tax to Caesar

13 Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words. 14 They came to him and said, "Teacher, we know that you are a man of integrity. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay the imperial tax*12:14 A special tax levied on subject peoples, not on Roman citizens to Caesar or not? 15 Should we pay or shouldn’t we?"

But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. "Why are you trying to trap me?" he asked. "Bring me a denarius and let me look at it."16 They brought the coin, and he asked them, "Whose image is this? And whose inscription?"

"Caesar’s," they replied.

17 Then Jesus said to them, "Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s."

And they were amazed at him.

Marriage at the Resurrection

18 Then the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. 19 "Teacher," they said, "Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother. 20 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married and died without leaving any children. 21 The second one married the widow, but he also died, leaving no child. It was the same with the third. 22 In fact, none of the seven left any children. Last of all, the woman died too. 23 At the resurrection*12:23 Some manuscripts resurrection, when people rise from the dead, whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?"

24 Jesus replied, "Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?25 When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.26 Now about the dead rising—have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’*12:26 Exodus 3:6?27 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!"

The Greatest Commandment

28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?"

29 "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.*12:29 Or The Lord our God is one Lord30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’*12:30 Deut. 6:4,531 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’*12:31 Lev. 19:18There is no commandment greater than these."

32 "Well said, teacher," the man replied. "You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. 33 To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."

34 When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.

Whose Son Is the Messiah?

35 While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, he asked, "Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David?36 David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared:

" ‘The Lord said to my Lord:

"Sit at my right hand

until I put your enemies

under your feet." ’* 12:36 Psalm 110:1

37 David himself calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?"

The large crowd listened to him with delight.

Warning Against the Teachers of the Law

38 As he taught, Jesus said, "Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted with respect in the marketplaces,39 and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.40 They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely."

The Widow’s Offering

41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.

43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on."
