1 Depois da praga, o Senhor disse a Moisés e a Eleazar, filho do sacerdote Arão:2 "Façam um recenseamento de toda a comunidade de Israel, segundo as suas famílias; contem todos os de vinte anos para cima que possam servir no exército de Israel".3 Nas campinas de Moabe, junto ao Jordão, do outro lado de Jericó, Moisés e o sacerdote Eleazar falaram com eles e disseram:4 "Façam um recenseamento dos homens de vinte anos para cima", conforme o Senhor tinha ordenado a Moisés. Estes foram os israelitas que saíram do Egito:5 Os descendentes de Rúben, filho mais velho de Israel, foram: de Enoque, o clã enoquita; de Palu, o clã paluíta;6 de Hezrom, o clã hezronita; de Carmi, o clã carmita.7 Esses foram os clãs de Rúben; foram contados 43. 730 homens.8 O filho de Palu foi Eliabe,9 e os filhos de Eliabe foram Nemuel, Datã e Abirão. Estes, Datã e Abirão, foram os líderes da comunidade que se rebelaram contra Moisés e contra Arão, estando entre os seguidores de Corá quando se rebelaram contra o Senhor.10 A terra abriu a boca e os engoliu juntamente com Corá, cujos seguidores morreram quando o fogo devorou duzentos e cinqüenta homens, que serviram como sinal de advertência.11 A descendência de Corá, contudo, não desapareceu.12 Os descendentes de Simeão segundo os seus clãs foram: de Nemuel, o clã nemuelita; de Jamim, o clã jaminita; de Jaquim, o clã jaquinita;13 de Zerá, o clã zeraíta; de Saul, o clã saulita.14 Esses foram os clãs de Simeão; havia 22. 200 homens.15 Os descendentes de Gade segundo os seus clãs foram: de Zefom, o clã zefonita; de Hagi, o clã hagita; de Suni, o clã sunita;16 de Ozni, o clã oznita; de Eri, o clã erita;17 de Arodi, o clã arodita; de Areli, o clã arelita.18 Esses foram os clãs de Gade; foram contados 40. 500 homens.19 Er e Onã eram filhos de Judá, mas morreram em Canaã.20 Os descendentes de Judá segundo os seus clãs foram: de Selá, o clã selanita; de Perez, o clã perezita; de Zerá, o clã zeraíta.21 Os descendentes de Perez foram: de Hezrom, o clã hezronita; de Hamul, o clã hamulita.22 Esses foram os clãs de Judá; foram contados 76. 500 homens.23 Os descendentes de Issacar segundo os seus clãs foram: de Tolá, o clã tolaíta; de Puá, o clã puvita;24 de Jasube, o clã jasubita; de Sinrom, o clã sinronita.25 Esses foram os clãs de Issacar; foram contados 64. 300 homens.26 Os descendentes de Zebulom segundo os seus clãs foram: de Serede, o clã seredita; de Elom, o clã elonita; de Jaleel, o clã jaleelita.27 Esses foram os clãs de Zebulom; foram contados 60. 500 homens.28 Os descendentes de José segundo os seus clãs, por meio de Manassés e Efraim, foram:29 Os descendentes de Manassés: de Maquir, o clã maquirita ( Maquir foi o pai de Gileade ); de Gileade, o clã gileadita.30 Estes foram os descendentes de Gileade: de Jezer, o clã jezerita; de Heleque, o clã helequita;31 de Asriel, o clã asrielita; de Siquém, o clã siquemita;32 de Semida, o clã semidaíta; de Héfer, o clã heferita.33 ( Zelofeade, filho de Héfer, não teve filhos; teve somente filhas, cujos nomes eram Maalá, Noa, Hogla, Milca e Tirza. )34 Esses foram os clãs de Manassés; foram contados 52. 700 homens.35 Os descendentes de Efraim segundo os seus clãs foram: de Sutela, o clã sutelaíta; de Bequer, o clã bequerita; de Taã, o clã taanita.36 Estes foram os descendentes de Sutela: de Erã, o clã eranita.37 Esses foram os clãs de Efraim; foram contados 32. 500 homens. Esses foram os descendentes de José segundo os seus clãs.38 Os descendentes de Benjamim segundo os seus clãs foram: de Belá, o clã belaíta; de Asbel, o clã asbelita; de Airã, o clã airamita;39 de Sufã; o clã sufamita; de Hufã, o clã hufamita.40 Os descendentes de Belá por meio de Arde e Naamã foram: de Arde, o clã ardita; de Naamã, o clã naamanita.41 Esses foram os clãs de Benjamim; foram contados 45. 600 homens.42 Os descendentes de Dã segundo os seus clãs foram: de Suã, o clã suamita. Esses foram os clãs de Dã:43 Todos eles eram clãs suamitas; foram contados 64. 400 homens.44 Os descendentes de Aser segundo os seus clãs foram: de Imna, o clã imnaíta; de Isvi, o clã isvita; de Berias, o clã beriaíta;45 e dos descendentes de Berias: de Héber, o clã heberita; de Malquiel, o clã malquielita.46 Aser teve uma filha chamada Sera.47 Esses foram os clãs de Aser; foram contados 53. 400 homens.48 Os descendentes de Naftali segundo os seus clãs foram: de Jazeel, o clã jazeelita; de Guni, o clã gunita;49 de Jezer, o clã jezerita; de Silém, o clã silemita.50 Esses foram os clãs de Naftali; foram contados 45. 400 homens.51 O número total dos homens de Israel foi 601. 730.52 Disse ainda o Senhor a Moisés:53 "A terra será repartida entre eles como herança, de acordo com o número dos nomes alistados.54 A um clã maior dê uma herança maior, e a um clã menor, uma herança menor; cada um receberá a sua herança de acordo com o seu número de recenseados.55 A terra, porém, será distribuída por sorteio. Cada um herdará sua parte de acordo com o nome da tribo de seus antepassados.56 Cada herança será distribuída por sorteio entre os clãs maiores e entre os clãs menores". O Segundo Recenseamento dos Levitas57 Estes foram os levitas contados segundo os seus clãs: de Gérson, o clã gersonita; de Coate, o clã coatita; de Merari, o clã merarita.58 Estes também eram clãs levitas: o clã libnita; o clã hebronita; o clã malita; o clã musita; o clã coreíta. Coate foi o pai de Anrão;59 o nome da mulher de Anrão era Joquebede, descendente de Levi, que nasceu no Egito. Ela lhe deu à luz Arão, Moisés e Miriã, irmã deles.60 Arão foi o pai de Nadabe, Abiú, Eleazar e Itamar.61 Mas Nadabe e Abiú morreram quando apresentaram uma oferta com fogo profano perante o Senhor.62 O total de levitas do sexo masculino de um mês de idade para cima que foram contados foi 23. 000. Não foram contados junto com os outros israelitas porque não receberam herança entre eles.63 São esses os que foram recenseados por Moisés e pelo sacerdote Eleazar quando contaram os israelitas nas campinas de Moabe, junto ao Jordão, do outro lado de Jericó.64 Nenhum deles estava entre os que foram contados por Moisés e pelo sacerdote Arão quando contaram os israelitas no deserto do Sinai.65 Pois o Senhor tinha dito àqueles israelitas que iriam morrer no deserto, e nenhum deles sobreviveu, exceto Calebe, filho de Jefoné, e Josué, filho de Num.

1 After the plague Jehovah said to Moses and Eleazar son of the priest Aaron:2 »Take a census of the entire congregation of Israel by households. List those who are at least twenty years old and eligible for military duty.«3 Moses and the priest Eleazar spoke to the Israelites on the plains of Moab near the Jordan River across from Jericho. They said:4 »Take a census of those at least twenty years old, as Jehovah commanded Moses.« These are the Israelites who came from Egypt:5 Reuben was Israel’s firstborn. The descendants of Reuben were the family of Hanoch, the family of Pallu,6 the family of Hezron, and the family of Carmi.7 These were the families of Reuben. The total number of men was forty-three thousand seven hundred and thirty.8 Eliab was the son of Pallu,9 and Nemuel, Dathan, and Abiram were the sons of Eliab. It was Dathan and Abiram, men chosen by the community, who defied Moses and Aaron’s authority. They joined Korah’s followers when they defied Jehovah’s authority.10 The ground opened up and swallowed them along with Korah. They and their followers died when the fire consumed the two hundred and fifty men. This was a warning.11 The descendants of Korah did not die.12 The families descended from Simeon were the family of Nemuel, the family of Jamin, the family of Jakin,13 the family of Zerah, and the family of Shaul.14 These were the families of Simeon. The total number of men was twenty-two thousand two hundred.15 The families descended from Gad were the family of Zephon, the family of Haggi, the family of Shuni,16 the family of Ozni, the family of Eri,17 the family of Arodi, and the family of Areli.18 These were the families of Gad’s descendants. The total number of men was forty thousand five hundred.19 Er and Onan were sons of Judah, but they died in Canaan.20 The families descended from Judah were the family of Shelah, the family of Perez, and the family of Zerah.21 The descendants of Perez were the family of Hezron and the family of Hamul.22 These were the families of Judah. The total number of men was seventy-six thousand five hundred.23 The families descended from Issachar were the family of Tola, the family of Puah,24 the family of Jashub, and the family of Shimron.25 These were the families of Issachar. The total number of men was sixty-four thousand three hundred.26 The families descended from Zebulun were the family of Sered, the family of Elon, and the family of Jahleel.27 These were the families of Zebulun. The total number of men was sixty thousand five hundred.28 The families descended from Joseph through Manasseh and Ephraim were29 from Manasseh the family of Machir who was the father of Gilead and the family of Gilead.30 The descendants of Gilead were the family of Iezer, the family of Helek,31 the family of Asriel, the family of Shechem,32 the family of Shemida, and the family of Hepher.33 Zelophehad, son of Hepher, had no sons-only daughters. Their names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.34 These were the families of Manasseh. The total number of men was fifty-two thousand seven hundred.35 The families descended from Ephraim were the family of Shuthelah, the family of Beker, and the family of Tahan.36 The descendants of Shuthelah were the family of Eran.37 These were the families of Ephraim’s descendants. The total number of men was thirty-two thousand five hundred. These were the families descended from Joseph.38 The families descended from Benjamin were the family of Bela, the family of Ashbel, the family of Ahiram,39 the family of Shupham, and the family of Hupham.40 The descendants of Bela through Ard and Naaman were the family of Ard and the family of Naaman.41 These were the families descended from Benjamin. The total number of men was forty-five thousand six hundred.42 The family descended from Dan was the family of Shuham. This was the family descended from Dan.43 The total number of men in all the family of Shuham was sixty-four thousand four hundred.44 The families descended from Asher were the family of Imnah, the family of Ishvi, and the family of Beriah.45 The descendants of Beriah were the family of Heber and the family of Malchiel.46 Asher had a daughter named Serah.47 These were the families of Asher’s descendants. The total number of men was fifty-three thousand four hundred.48 The families descended from Naphtali were the family of Jahzeel, the family of Guni,49 the family of Jezer, and the family of Shillem.50 These were the families of Naphtali. The total number of men was forty-five thousand four hundred.51 The total number of Israelite men was six hundred and one thousand seven hundred and thirty.52 Jehovah said to Moses:53 »Use the list of names from the census to divide the land these people will possess.54 »Give more land to larger tribes and less land to smaller ones. Use the totals from the census in giving land to each tribe.55 »The land must also be divided by drawing lots. The tribes will receive their land based on the names of their ancestors.56 »Whether the tribes are large or small, the land must be divided by drawing lots.«57 The families descended from Levi were listed as the family of Gershon, the family of Kohath, and the family of Merari.58 These were the families of Levi: the Libnite family, the Hebronite family, the Mahlite family, the Mushite family, and the Korahite family. Kohath was the ancestor of Amram.59 The name of Amram’s wife was Jochebed, a descendant of Levi, who was born in Egypt. She gave birth to Amram’s children: Aaron, Moses, and their sister Miriam.60 Aaron was the father of Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.61 Nadab and Abihu died because they offered unauthorized fire in Jehovah’s presence.62 The total number of all the Levite males at least one month old was twenty-three thousand. They were not counted along with the other Israelites, because they were given no land of their own.63 Moses and the priest Eleazar added up the total number of Israelites on the plains of Moab near the Jordan River across from Jericho.64 Not a single one of the Israelites Moses and the priest Aaron had counted in the Desert of Sinai were there.65 Jehovah said: »They must all die in the desert wilderness.« The only ones left were Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
