Esta foi a jornada deles, por etapas:3 Os israelitas partiram de Ramessés no décimo quinto dia do primeiro mês, no dia seguinte ao da Páscoa. Saíram, marchando desafiadoramente à vista de todos os egípcios,4 enquanto estes sepultavam o primeiro filho de cada um deles, que o Senhor matou. Destruam todas as imagens esculpidas e todos os ídolos fundidos, e derrubem todos os altares idólatras deles.53 Apoderem-se da terra e instalem-se nela, pois eu lhes dei a terra para que dela tomem posse.54 Distribuam a terra por sorteio, de acordo com os seus clãs. Aos clãs vocês darão uma herança maior, e aos menores, uma herança menor. Cada clã receberá a terra que lhe cair por sorte. Distribuam-na entre as tribos dos seus antepassados.55 "Se, contudo, vocês não expulsarem os habitantes da terra, aqueles que vocês permitirem ficar se tornarão farpas em seus olhos e espinhos em suas costas. Eles lhes causarão problemas na terra em que vocês irão morar.56 Então farei a vocês o mesmo que planejo fazer a eles".

Get rid of all their stone and metal idols, and destroy all their places of worship.53 »Take possession of the land and live there. I will give it to you for your own.54 Divide the land among your families by drawing lots. Give more land to larger families and less land to smaller ones. The land must be given to each family by drawing lots. Divide it among your ancestors’ tribes.55 »If you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land, those that are left will be as troublesome as splinters in your eyes and thorns in your sides. They will fight against you.56 »If you do not drive them out, I will destroy you, as I planned to destroy them.«
