1 Ezequias enviou uma mensagem a todo o Israel e Judá e também escreveu cartas a Efraim e a Manassés, convidando-os para ir ao templo do Senhor em Jerusalém e celebrar a Páscoa do Senhor, o Deus de Israel.2 O rei, seus oficiais e toda a comunidade de Jerusalém decidiram celebrar a Páscoa no segundo mês.3 Não tinha sido possível celebrá-la na data prescrita, pois não havia número suficiente de sacerdotes consagrados, e o povo não estava reunido em Jerusalém.4 A idéia pareceu boa tanto ao rei quanto a toda a assembléia.5 Então decidiram fazer uma proclamação em todo o Israel, desde Berseba até Dã, convocando o povo a Jerusalém para celebrar a Páscoa do Senhor, o Deus de Israel. Pois muitos não a celebravam segundo o que estava escrito.6 Por ordem do rei, mensageiros percorreram Israel e Judá com cartas assinadas pelo rei e pelos seus oficiais, com a seguinte mensagem: "Israelitas, voltem para o Senhor, o Deus de Abraão, de Isaque e de Israel, para que ele se volte para vocês que restaram e escaparam das mãos dos reis da Assíria.7 Não sejam como seus pais e seus irmãos, que foram infiéis ao Senhor, o Deus dos seus antepassados, de maneira que ele os deixou em ruínas, conforme vocês vêem.8 Portanto não sejam obstinados como seus antepassados; submetam-se ao Senhor. Venham ao santuário que ele consagrou para sempre. Sirvam ao Senhor, ao seu Deus, para que o fogo da sua ira se desvie de vocês.9 Se vocês voltarem para o Senhor, os que capturaram os seus irmãos e os seus filhos terão misericórdia deles, e eles voltarão a esta terra, pois o Senhor, o seu Deus, é bondoso e compassivo. Ele não os rejeitará, se vocês se voltarem para ele".10 Os mensageiros foram de cidade em cidade, em Efraim e em Manassés, e até em Zebulom, mas o povo zombou deles e os expôs ao ridículo.11 No entanto, alguns homens de Aser, de Manassés e de Zebulom humilharam-se e foram para Jerusalém.12 Já em Judá a mão de Deus esteve sobre o povo dando-lhes unidade de pensamento para executarem o que o rei e os seus oficiais haviam ordenado, conforme a palavra do Senhor.13 Uma imensa multidão reuniu-se em Jerusalém no segundo mês, para celebrar a festa dos pães sem fermento.14 Eles retiraram os altares que havia em Jerusalém e se desfizeram de todos os altares de incenso, atirando-os no vale de Cedrom.15 Abateram o cordeiro da Páscoa no dia catorze do segundo mês. Os sacerdotes e os levitas, envergonhados, consagraram-se e levaram holocaustos ao templo do Senhor.16 E assumiram seus postos, conforme prescrito na Lei de Moisés, homem de Deus. Os sacerdotes aspergiram o sangue que os levitas lhes entregaram.17 Visto que muitos na multidão não haviam se consagrado, os levitas tiveram que matar cordeiros da Páscoa para todos os que não estavam cerimonialmente puros e que por isso não podiam consagrar os seus cordeiros ao Senhor.18 Embora muitos dos que vieram de Efraim, de Manassés, de Issacar e de Zebulom não se tivessem purificado, assim mesmo comeram a Páscoa, contrariando o que estava escrito. Mas Ezequias orou por eles, dizendo: "Queira o Senhor, que é bondoso, perdoar todo19 aquele que inclina o seu coração para buscar a Deus, o Senhor, o Deus dos seus antepassados, mesmo que não esteja puro de acordo com as regras do santuário".20 E o Senhor ouviu a oração de Ezequias e não castigou o povo.21 Os israelitas presentes em Jerusalém celebraram com muita alegria a festa dos pães sem fermento durante sete dias. Diariamente os levitas e os sacerdotes cantavam louvores, ao som dos instrumentos ressonantes do Senhor.22 Ezequias dirigiu palavras animadoras a todos os levitas, que mostraram boa disposição para com o serviço do Senhor. Durante os sete dias eles comeram suas porções das ofertas, apresentaram sacrifícios de comunhão e louvaram o Senhor, o Deus dos seus antepassados.23 E toda a assembléia decidiu prolongar a festa por mais sete dias, e a celebraram com alegria.24 Ezequias, rei de Judá, forneceu mil novilhos e sete mil ovelhas e bodes para a assembléia, e os líderes, mil novilhos e dez mil ovelhas e bodes. Muitos sacerdotes se consagraram,25 e toda a assembléia de Judá se regozijava, juntamente com os sacerdotes, com os levitas e com todos os que se haviam reunido, vindos de Israel, inclusive os estrangeiros que viviam em Israel e em Judá.26 Houve grande alegria em Jerusalém, pois desde os dias de Salomão, filho de Davi, rei de Israel, não havia acontecido algo assim na cidade.27 Os sacerdotes e os levitas levantaram-se para abençoar o povo, e Deus os ouviu; a oração deles chegou aos céus, sua santa habitação.

1 And Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah, and wrote letters also to Ephraim and Manasseh, that they should come to the house of Yahweh at Jerusalem, to keep the Passover to Yahweh, the God of Israel.2 For the king had taken counsel, and his princes, and all the assembly in Jerusalem, to keep the Passover in the second month.3 For they could not keep it at that time, because the priests had not sanctified themselves in sufficient number, neither had the people gathered themselves together to Jerusalem.4 And the thing was right in the eyes of the king and of all the assembly.5 So they established a decree to make proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beer-sheba even to Dan, that they should come to keep the Passover to Yahweh, the God of Israel, at Jerusalem: for they had not kept it in great numbers in such sort as it is written.6 So the posts went with the letters from the king and his princes throughout all Israel and Judah, and according to the commandment of the king, saying, You{+} sons of Israel, turn again to Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, that he may return to the remnant that have escaped of you{+} out of the hand of the kings of Assyria.7 And don't be{+} like your{+} fathers, and like your{+} brothers, who trespassed against Yahweh, the God of their fathers, so that he gave them up to desolation, as you{+} see.8 Now don't be{+} stiff-necked, as your{+} fathers were; but yield yourselves to Yahweh, and enter into his sanctuary, which he has sanctified forever, and serve Yahweh your{+} God, that his fierce anger may turn away from you{+}.9 For if you{+} turn again to Yahweh, your{+} brothers and your{+} sons will find compassion before those who led them captive, and will come again into this land: for Yahweh your{+} God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you{+}, if you{+} return to him.10 So the posts passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh, even to Zebulun: but they laughed them to scorn, and mocked them.11 Nevertheless certain men of Asher and Manasseh and of Zebulun humbled themselves, and came to Jerusalem.12 Also on Judah came the hand of God to give them one heart, to do the commandment of the king and of the princes by the word of Yahweh.13 And there assembled at Jerusalem many people to keep the feast of unleavened bread in the second month, a very great assembly.14 And they arose and took away the altars that were in Jerusalem, and all the altars for incense they took away, and cast them into the brook Kidron.15 Then they killed the Passover on the fourteenth [day] of the second month: and the priests and the Levites were ashamed, and sanctified themselves, and brought burnt-offerings into the house of Yahweh.16 And they stood in their place after their order, according to the law of Moses the man of God: the priests sprinkled the blood [which they received] of the hand of the Levites.17 For there were many in the assembly that had not sanctified themselves: therefore the Levites had the charge of killing the passovers for everyone who was not clean, to sanctify them to Yahweh.18 For a multitude of the people, even many of Ephraim and Manasseh, Issachar and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, yet they ate the Passover otherwise than it is written. For Hezekiah had prayed for them, saying, The good Yahweh pardon everyone19 that sets his heart to seek God, Yahweh, the God of his fathers, though [he is] not [cleansed] according to the purification of the sanctuary.20 And Yahweh listened to Hezekiah, and healed the people.21 And the sons of Israel who were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great gladness; and the Levites and the priests praised Yahweh day by day, [singing] with loud instruments to Yahweh.22 And Hezekiah spoke comfortably to all the Levites that had good understanding [in the service] of Yahweh. So they ate throughout the feast for the seven days, offering sacrifices of peace-offerings, and making confession to Yahweh, the God of their fathers.23 And the whole assembly took counsel to keep another seven days; and they kept [another] seven days with gladness.24 For Hezekiah king of Judah gave to the assembly for offerings a thousand bullocks and seven thousand sheep; and the princes gave to the assembly a thousand bullocks and ten thousand sheep: and a great number of priests sanctified themselves.25 And all the assembly of Judah, with the priests and the Levites, and all the assembly that came out of Israel, and the sojourners that came out of the land of Israel, and that dwelt in Judah, rejoiced.26 So there was great joy in Jerusalem; for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was not the like in Jerusalem.27 Then the Levitical priests arose and blessed the people: and their voice was heard, and their prayer came up to his holy habitation, even to heaven.
