1 Paulo, chamado para ser apóstolo de Cristo Jesus pela vontade de Deus, e o irmão Sóstenes,2 à igreja de Deus que está em Corinto, aos santificados em Cristo Jesus e chamados para serem santos, juntamente com todos os que, em toda parte, invocam o nome de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, Senhor deles e nosso:3 A vocês, graça e paz da parte de Deus nosso Pai e do Senhor Jesus Cristo.4 Sempre dou graças a meu Deus por vocês, por causa da graça que lhes foi dada por ele em Cristo Jesus.5 Pois nele vocês foram enriquecidos em tudo, em toda palavra e em todo conhecimento,6 porque o testemunho de Cristo foi confirmado entre vocês,7 de modo que não lhes falta nenhum dom espiritual, enquanto vocês aguardam que o nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo seja revelado.8 Ele os manterá firmes até o fim, de modo que vocês serão irrepreensíveis no dia de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.9 Fiel é Deus, o qual os chamou à comunhão com seu Filho Jesus Cristo, nosso Senhor.10 Irmãos, em nome de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo suplico a todos vocês que concordem uns com os outros no que falam, para que não haja divisões entre vocês, e, sim, que todos estejam unidos num só pensamento e num só parecer.11 Meus irmãos, fui informado por alguns da casa de Cloe de que há divisões entre vocês.12 Com isso quero dizer que cada um de vocês afirma: "Eu sou de Paulo"; "eu de Apolo"; "eu de Pedro"; e "eu de Cristo".13 Acaso Cristo está dividido? Foi Paulo crucificado em favor de vocês? Foram vocês batizados em nome de Paulo?14 Dou graças a Deus por não ter batizado nenhum de vocês, exceto Crispo e Gaio;15 de modo que ninguém pode dizer que foi batizado em meu nome.16 ( Batizei também os da casa de Estéfanas; além destes, não me lembro se batizei alguém mais. )17 Pois Cristo não me enviou para batizar, mas para pregar o evangelho, não com palavras de sabedoria humana, para que a cruz de Cristo não seja esvaziada. Cristo, Sabedoria e Poder de Deus18 Pois a mensagem da cruz é loucura para os que estão perecendo, mas para nós, que estamos sendo salvos, é o poder de Deus.19 Pois está escrito: "Destruirei a sabedoria dos sábios e rejeitarei a inteligência dos inteligentes".20 Onde está o sábio? Onde está o erudito? Onde está o questionador desta era? Acaso não tornou Deus louca a sabedoria deste mundo?21 Visto que, na sabedoria de Deus, o mundo não o conheceu por meio da sabedoria humana, agradou a Deus salvar aqueles que crêem por meio da loucura da pregação.22 Os judeus pedem sinais miraculosos, e os gregos procuram sabedoria;23 nós, porém, pregamos a Cristo crucificado, o qual, de fato, é escândalo para os judeus e loucura para os gentios24 mas para os que foram chamados, tanto judeus como gregos, Cristo é o poder de Deus e a sabedoria de Deus.25 Porque a loucura de Deus é mais sábia que a sabedoria humana, e a fraqueza de Deus é mais forte que a força do homem.26 Irmãos, pensem no que vocês eram quando foram chamados. Poucos eram sábios segundo os padrões humanos; poucos eram poderosos; poucos eram de nobre nascimento.27 Mas Deus escolheu as coisas loucas do mundo para envergonhar os sábios, e escolheu as coisas fracas do mundo para envergonhar as fortes.28 Ele escolheu as coisas insignificantes do mundo, as desprezadas e as que nada são, para reduzir a nada as que são,29 para que ninguém se vanglorie diante dele.30 É, porém, por iniciativa dele que vocês estão em Cristo Jesus, o qual se tornou sabedoria de Deus para nós, isto é, justiça, santidade e redenção,31 para que, como está escrito: "Quem se gloriar, glorie-se no Senhor".

1 Paul, called to be an Apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God–and our brother Sosthenes:2 To the Church of God in Corinth, men and women consecrated in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all in every place who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ– their Lord as well as ours.3 May grace and peace be granted to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.4 I thank my God continually on your behalf for the grace of God bestowed on you in Christ Jesus–5 that you have been so richly blessed in Him, with readiness of speech and fulness of knowledge.6 Thus my testimony as to the Christ has been confirmed in your experience,7 so that there is no gift of God in which you consciously come short while patiently waiting for the reappearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,8 who will also keep you stedfast to the very End, so that you will be free from reproach on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.9 God is ever true to His promises, and it was by Him that you were, one and all, called into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ, our Lord.10 Now I entreat you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to cultivate a spirit of harmony –all of you– and that there be no divisions among you, but rather a perfect union through your having one mind and one judgement.11 For I have been distinctly informed, my brethren, about you by Chloe's people, that there are dissensions among you.12 What I mean is that each of you is a partisan. One man says »I belong to Paul;« another »I belong to Apollos;« a third »I belong to Peter;« a fourth »I belong to Christ.«13 Is the Christ in fragments? Is it Paul who was crucified on your behalf? Or were you baptized to be Paul's adherents?14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius–15 for fear people should say that you were baptized to be my adherents.16 I did, however, baptize Stephanas' household also: but I do not think that I baptized any one else.17 Christ did not send me to baptize, but to proclaim the Good News; and not in merely wise words–lest the Cross of Christ should be deprived of its power.18 For the Message of the Cross is foolishness to those who are on the way to perdition, but it is the power of God to those whom He is saving.19 For so it stands written, »I will exhibit the nothingness of the wisdom of the wise, and the intelligence of the intelligent I will bring to nought.«20 Where is your wise man? Where your expounder of the Law? Where your investigator of the questions of this present age? Has not God shown the world's wisdom to be utter foolishness?21 For after the world by its wisdom –as God in His wisdom had ordained– had failed to gain the knowledge of God, God was pleased, by the apparent foolishness of the Message which we preach, to save those who accepted it.22 Seeing that Jews demand miracles, and Greeks go in search of wisdom,23 while we proclaim a Christ who has been crucified–to the Jews a stumbling-block, to Gentiles foolishness,24 but to those who have received the Call, whether Jews or Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.25 Because that which the world deems foolish in God is wiser than men's wisdom, and that which it deems feeble in God is mightier than men's might.26 For consider, brethren, God's call to you. Not many who are wise with merely human wisdom, not many of position and influence, not many of noble birth have been called.27 But God has chosen the things which the world regards as foolish, in order to put its wise men to shame; and God has chosen the things which the world regards as destitute of influence, in order to put its powerful things to shame;28 and the things which the world regards as base, and those which it sets utterly at nought –things that have no existence– God has chosen in order to reduce to nothing things that do exist;29 to prevent any mortal man from boasting in the presence of God.30 But you –and it is all God's doing– are in Christ Jesus: He has become for us a wisdom which is from God, consisting of righteousness and sanctification and deliverance;31 in order that it may be as Scripture says, »He who boasts–let his boast be in the Lord.«
