1 Por essa razão, eu, Paulo, prisioneiro de Cristo Jesus por amor de vocês, gentios —2 Certamente vocês ouviram falar da responsabilidade imposta a mim em favor de vocês pela graça de Deus,3 isto é, o mistério que me foi dado a conhecer por revelação, como já lhes escrevi brevemente.4 Ao lerem isso vocês poderão entender a minha compreensão do mistério de Cristo.5 Esse mistério não foi dado a conhecer aos homens doutras gerações, mas agora foi revelado pelo Espírito aos santos apóstolos e profetas de Deus,6 a saber, que mediante o evangelho os gentios são co-herdeiros com Israel, membros do mesmo corpo, e co-participantes da promessa em Cristo Jesus.7 Deste me tornei ministro pelo dom da graça de Deus, a mim concedida pela operação de seu poder.8 Embora eu seja o menor dos menores dentre todos os santos, foi-me concedida esta graça de anunciar aos gentios as insondáveis riquezas de Cristo9 e esclarecer a todos a administração deste mistério que, durante as épocas passadas, foi mantido oculto em Deus, que criou todas as coisas.10 A intenção dessa graça era que agora, mediante a igreja, a multiforme sabedoria de Deus se tornasse conhecida dos poderes e autoridades nas regiões celestiais,11 de acordo com o seu eterno plano que ele realizou em Cristo Jesus, nosso Senhor,12 por intermédio de quem temos livre acesso a Deus em confiança, pela fé nele.13 Portanto, peço-lhes que não se desanimem por causa das minhas tribulações em seu favor, pois elas são uma glória para vocês.14 Por essa razão, ajoelho-me diante do Pai,15 do qual recebe o nome toda a família nos céus e na terra.16 Oro para que, com as suas gloriosas riquezas, ele os fortaleça no íntimo do seu ser com poder, por meio do seu Espírito,17 para que Cristo habite em seus corações mediante a fé; e oro para que vocês, arraigados e alicerçados em amor,18 possam, juntamente com todos os santos, compreender a largura, o comprimento, a altura e a profundidade,19 e conhecer o amor de Cristo que excede todo conhecimento, para que vocês sejam cheios de toda a plenitude de Deus.20 Àquele que é capaz de fazer infinitamente mais do que tudo o que pedimos ou pensamos, de acordo com o seu poder que atua em nós,21 a ele seja a glória na igreja e em Cristo Jesus, por todas as gerações, para todo o sempre! 1 For this reason I Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles–2 if, that is, you have heard of the work which God has graciously entrusted to me for your benefit,3 and that by a revelation the truth hitherto kept secret was made known to me as I have already briefly explained it to you.4 By means of that explanation, as you read it, you can judge of my insight into the truth of Christ5 which in earlier ages was not made known to the human race, as it has now been revealed to His holy Apostles and Prophets through the Spirit–6 I mean the truth that the Gentiles are joint heirs with us Jews, and that they form one body with us, and have the same interest as we have in the promise which has been made good in Christ Jesus through the Good News,7 in which I have been appointed to serve, in virtue of the work which God, in the exercise of His power within me, has graciously entrusted to me.8 To me who am less than the least of all God's people has this work been graciously entrusted–to proclaim to the Gentiles the Good News of the exhaustless wealth of Christ,9 and to show all men in a clear light what my stewardship is. It is the stewardship of the truth which from all the Ages lay concealed in the mind of God, the Creator of all things–10 concealed in order that the Church might now be used to display to the powers and authorities in the heavenly realms the innumerable aspects of God's wisdom.11 Such was the eternal purpose which He had formed in Christ Jesus our Lord,12 in whom we have this bold and confident access through our faith in Him.13 Therefore I entreat you not to lose heart in the midst of my sufferings on your behalf, for they bring you honour.14 For this reason, on bended knee I beseech the Father,15 from whom the whole family in Heaven and on earth derives its name,16 to grant you –in accordance with the wealth of His glorious perfections– to be strengthened by His Spirit with power penetrating to your inmost being.17 I pray that Christ may make His home in your hearts through your faith; so that having your roots deep and your foundations strong, in love, you may become mighty to grasp the idea,18 as it is grasped by all God's people, of the breadth and length, the height and depth–19 yes, to attain to a knowledge of the knowledge-surpassing love of Christ, so that you may be made complete in accordance with God's own standard of completeness.20 Now to Him who, in exercise of His power that is at work within us, is able to do infinitely beyond all our highest prayers or thoughts–21 to Him be the glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, world without end!
