1 Agora, irmãos, vamos esclarecer algumas coisas a respeito da vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo e de nosso encontro com ele. 2 Não se deixem abalar nem assustar tão facilmente por aqueles que dizem que o dia do Senhor já começou. Não acreditem neles, mesmo que afirmem ter recebido uma visão espiritual, uma revelação ou uma carta supostamente enviada por nós. 3 Não se deixem enganar pelo que dizem, pois esse dia não virá até que surja a rebelião e venha o homem da perversidade, aquele que traz destruição. 4 Ele se exaltará e se oporá a tudo que o povo chama de "deus" e a todo objeto de culto, e até se sentará no templo de Deus e se fará passar por Deus.

5 Não se lembram de que eu lhes falei disso tudo quando estive aí? 6 E vocês sabem o que o está detendo, pois ele só pode ser revelado quando sua hora chegar. 7 Pois essa perversidade já opera secretamente e permanecerá em segredo até que se afaste aquele que a detém. 8 Então o homem da perversidade será revelado, mas o Senhor Jesus o matará com o sopro de sua boca e o destruirá com o esplendor de sua vinda.

9 Esse homem virá para realizar o trabalho de Satanás, com poder, sinais e falsas maravilhas, 10 e com todo tipo de mentira perversa para enganar os que estão caminhando para a destruição, pois se recusam a amar e a aceitar a verdade que os salvaria. 11 Portanto, Deus fará que sejam enganados, e eles crerão nessas mentiras. 12 Então serão condenados por ter prazer no mal em vez de crer na verdade.

13 Quanto a nós, não podemos deixar de dar graças a Deus por vocês, irmãos amados pelo Senhor. Somos sempre gratos porque Deus os escolheu para estarem entre os primeiros a receber a salvação por meio do Espírito que os torna santos e pela fé na verdade. 14 Ele os chamou para a salvação quando lhes anunciamos as boas-novas; agora vocês podem participar da glória de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.

15 Portanto, irmãos, tendo em mente todas essas coisas, permaneçam firmes e apeguem-se às tradições que lhes transmitimos, seja pessoalmente, seja por carta.

16 Que o próprio Jesus Cristo, nosso Senhor, e Deus, nosso Pai, que nos amou e pela graça nos deu eterno conforto e maravilhosa esperança, 17 os animem e os fortaleçam em tudo de bom que vocês fizerem e disserem.

1 Now, brothers, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to him, we ask you 2 not to be quickly shaken in your mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter as if from us, saying that the day of Christ has already come. 3 Let no one deceive you in any way. For it will not be unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of destruction. 4 He opposes and exalts himself against all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, setting himself up as God. 5 Don’t you remember that when I was still with you, I told you these things? 6 Now you know what is restraining him, to the end that he may be revealed in his own season. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness already works. Only there is one who restrains now, until he is taken out of the way. 8 Then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will kill with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the manifestation of his coming; 9 even he whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 and with all deception of wickedness for those who are being lost, because they didn’t receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 Because of this, God sends them a powerful delusion, that they should believe a lie, 12 that they all might be judged who didn’t believe the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

13 But we are bound to always give thanks to God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief in the truth, 14 to which he called you through our Good News, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 So then, brothers, stand firm and hold the traditions which you were taught by us, whether by word or by letter.

16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, 17 comfort your hearts and establish you in every good work and word.
