1 Então Jesus deixou Cafarnaum e foi para a região da Judeia, a leste do rio Jordão. Mais uma vez, multidões se juntaram ao seu redor e, como de costume, ele as ensinava.

2 Alguns fariseus vieram e tentaram apanhar Jesus numa armadilha com a seguinte pergunta: "Deve-se permitir que um homem se divorcie de sua mulher?".

3 Jesus respondeu: "O que Moisés disse na lei a respeito do divórcio?".

4 "Ele o permitiu", responderam os fariseus. "Disse que um homem poderia dar à esposa um certificado de divórcio e mandá-la embora."

5 Jesus, porém, disse: "Moisés escreveu esse mandamento porque vocês têm o coração duro, 6 mas ‘Deus os fez homem e mulher’ desde o princípio da criação. 7 ‘Por isso o homem deixa pai e mãe e se une à sua mulher, 8 e os dois se tornam um só’. Uma vez que já não são dois, mas um só, 9 que ninguém separe o que Deus uniu".

10 Mais tarde, quando Jesus estava em casa com seus discípulos, eles tocaram no assunto outra vez. 11 Jesus respondeu: "Quem se divorcia de sua esposa e se casa com outra mulher comete adultério contra ela. 12 E, se a mulher se divorcia do marido e se casa com outro homem, comete adultério".

13 Certo dia, trouxeram crianças para que Jesus pusesse as mãos sobre elas, mas os discípulos repreendiam aqueles que as traziam.

14 Ao ver isso, Jesus ficou indignado com os discípulos e disse: "Deixem que as crianças venham a mim. Não as impeçam, pois o reino de Deus pertence aos que são como elas. 15 Eu lhes digo a verdade: quem não receber o reino de Deus como uma criança de modo algum entrará nele". 16 Então tomou as crianças nos braços, pôs as mãos sobre a cabeça delas e as abençoou.

17 Quando Jesus saía para Jerusalém, um homem veio correndo em sua direção, ajoelhou-se diante dele e perguntou: "Bom mestre, que devo fazer para herdar a vida eterna?".

18 "Por que você me chama de bom?", perguntou Jesus. "Apenas Deus é verdadeiramente bom. 19 Você conhece os mandamentos: ‘Não mate. Não cometa adultério. Não roube. Não dê falso testemunho. Não engane ninguém. Honre seu pai e sua mãe’."

20 O homem respondeu: "Mestre, tenho obedecido a todos esses mandamentos desde a juventude".

21 Com amor, Jesus olhou para o homem e disse: "Ainda há uma coisa que você não fez. Vá, venda todos os seus bens e dê o dinheiro aos pobres. Então você terá um tesouro no céu. Depois, venha e siga-me".

22 Ao ouvir isso, o homem ficou desapontado e foi embora triste, pois tinha muitos bens.

23 Jesus olhou ao redor e disse a seus discípulos: "Como é difícil os ricos entrarem no reino de Deus!". 24 Os discípulos se admiraram de suas palavras. Mas Jesus disse outra vez: "Filhos, entrar no reino de Deus é muito difícil. 25 É mais fácil um camelo passar pelo buraco de uma agulha que um rico entrar no reino de Deus".

26 Perplexos, os discípulos perguntaram: "Então quem pode ser salvo?".

27 Jesus olhou atentamente para eles e respondeu: "Para as pessoas isso é impossível, mas não para Deus. Para Deus, tudo é possível".

28 Então Pedro começou a falar: "Deixamos tudo para segui-lo".

29 Jesus respondeu: "Eu lhes garanto que todos que deixaram casa, irmãos, irmãs, mãe, pai, filhos ou propriedades por minha causa e por causa das boas-novas 30 receberão em troca, neste mundo, cem vezes mais casas, irmãos, irmãs, mães, filhos e propriedades, com perseguição, e, no mundo futuro, terão a vida eterna. 31 Contudo, muitos primeiros serão os últimos, e muitos últimos serão os primeiros".

32 Por esse tempo, subiam para Jerusalém, e Jesus ia à frente. Os discípulos estavam muito admirados, e o povo que os seguia tinha grande temor. Jesus chamou os Doze à parte e, mais uma vez, começou a descrever tudo que estava prestes a lhe acontecer.

33 "Ouçam", disse ele. "Estamos subindo para Jerusalém, onde o Filho do Homem será traído e entregue aos principais sacerdotes e aos mestres da lei. Eles o condenarão à morte e o entregarão aos gentios. 34 Zombarão dele, cuspirão nele, o açoitarão e o matarão, mas depois de três dias ele ressuscitará."

35 Então Tiago e João, filhos de Zebedeu, vieram e falaram com ele: "Mestre, queremos que nos faça um favor".

36 "Que favor é esse?", perguntou ele.

37 Eles responderam: "Quando o senhor se sentar em seu trono glorioso, queremos nos sentar em lugares de honra ao seu lado, um à sua direita e outro à sua esquerda".

38 Jesus lhes disse: "Vocês não sabem o que estão pedindo! São capazes de beber do cálice que beberei? São capazes de ser batizados com o batismo com que serei batizado?".

39 "Somos!", responderam eles.

Então Jesus disse: "De fato, vocês beberão do meu cálice e serão batizados com o meu batismo. 40 Não cabe a mim, no entanto, dizer quem se sentará à minha direita ou à minha esquerda. Esses lugares serão daqueles para quem eles foram preparados".

41 Quando os outros dez discípulos ouviram o que Tiago e João haviam pedido, ficaram indignados. 42 Então Jesus os reuniu e disse: "Vocês sabem que os que são considerados líderes neste mundo têm poder sobre o povo, e que os oficiais exercem sua autoridade sobre os súditos. 43 Entre vocês, porém, será diferente. Quem quiser ser o líder entre vocês, que seja servo, 44 e quem quiser ser o primeiro entre vocês, que se torne escravo de todos. 45 Pois nem mesmo o Filho do Homem veio para ser servido, mas para servir e dar sua vida em resgate por muitos".

46 Então chegaram a Jericó. Quando Jesus e seus discípulos saíam da cidade, uma grande multidão os seguiu. Um mendigo cego chamado Bartimeu, filho de Timeu, estava sentado à beira do caminho. 47 Quando Bartimeu soube que Jesus de Nazaré estava perto, começou a gritar: "Jesus, Filho de Davi, tenha misericórdia de mim!".

48 Muitos lhe diziam aos brados: "Cale-se!".

Ele, porém, gritava ainda mais alto: "Filho de Davi, tenha misericórdia de mim!".

49 Quando Jesus o ouviu, parou e disse: "Falem para ele vir aqui".

Então chamaram o cego. "Anime-se!", disseram. "Venha, ele o está chamando!" 50 Bartimeu jogou sua capa para o lado, levantou-se de um salto e foi até Jesus.

51 "O que você quer que eu lhe faça?", perguntou Jesus.

O cego respondeu: "Rabi, quero enxergar".

52 Jesus lhe disse: "Vá, pois sua fé o curou". No mesmo instante, o homem passou a ver e seguiu Jesus pelo caminho.

1 He arose from there and came into the borders of Judea and beyond the Jordan. Multitudes came together to him again. As he usually did, he was again teaching them.

2 Pharisees came to him testing him, and asked him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"

3 He answered, "What did Moses command you?"

4 They said, "Moses allowed a certificate of divorce to be written, and to divorce her."

5 But Jesus said to them, "For your hardness of heart, he wrote you this commandment. 6 But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. 7 For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will join to his wife, 8 and the two will become one flesh, so that they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."

10 In the house, his disciples asked him again about the same matter. 11 He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her. 12 If a woman herself divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery."

13 They were bringing to him little children, that he should touch them, but the disciples rebuked those who were bringing them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation and said to them, "Allow the little children to come to me! Don’t forbid them, for God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these. 15 Most certainly I tell you, whoever will not receive God’s Kingdom like a little child, he will in no way enter into it." 16 He took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.

17 As he was going out into the way, one ran to him, knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?"

18 Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except one—God. 19 You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not give false testimony,’ ‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and mother.’"

20 He said to him, "Teacher, I have observed all these things from my youth."

21 Jesus looking at him loved him, and said to him, "One thing you lack. Go, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me, taking up the cross."

22 But his face fell at that saying, and he went away sorrowful, for he was one who had great possessions.

23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How difficult it is for those who have riches to enter into God’s Kingdom!"

24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus answered again, "Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter into God’s Kingdom! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye than for a rich man to enter into God’s Kingdom."

26 They were exceedingly astonished, saying to him, "Then who can be saved?"

27 Jesus, looking at them, said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God, for all things are possible with God."

28 Peter began to tell him, "Behold, we have left all and have followed you."

29 Jesus said, "Most certainly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or land, for my sake, and for the sake of the Good News, 30 but he will receive one hundred times more now in this time: houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and land, with persecutions; and in the age to come eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first."

32 They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus was going in front of them, and they were amazed; and those who followed were afraid. He again took the twelve, and began to tell them the things that were going to happen to him. 33 "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes. They will condemn him to death, and will deliver him to the Gentiles. 34 They will mock him, spit on him, scourge him, and kill him. On the third day he will rise again."

35 James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came near to him, saying, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we will ask."

36 He said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?"

37 They said to him, "Grant to us that we may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left hand, in your glory."

38 But Jesus said to them, "You don’t know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?"

39 They said to him, "We are able."

Jesus said to them, "You shall indeed drink the cup that I drink, and you shall be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; 40 but to sit at my right hand and at my left hand is not mine to give, but for whom it has been prepared."

41 When the ten heard it, they began to be indignant toward James and John.

42 Jesus summoned them and said to them, "You know that they who are recognized as rulers over the nations lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 But it shall not be so among you, but whoever wants to become great among you shall be your servant. 44 Whoever of you wants to become first among you shall be bondservant of all. 45 For the Son of Man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

46 They came to Jericho. As he went out from Jericho with his disciples and a great multitude, the son of Timaeus, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the road. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me!" 48 Many rebuked him, that he should be quiet, but he cried out much more, "You son of David, have mercy on me!"

49 Jesus stood still and said, "Call him."

They called the blind man, saying to him, "Cheer up! Get up. He is calling you!"

50 He, casting away his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus.

51 Jesus asked him, "What do you want me to do for you?"

The blind man said to him, "Rabboni, that I may see again."

52 Jesus said to him, "Go your way. Your faith has made you well." Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the way.
