1 E agora uma palavra para os que são anciãos entre vocês. Também eu sou ancião com eles e sou testemunha dos sofrimentos de Cristo. E serei participante da sua glória quando ele voltar. 2 Alimentem o rebanho de Deus que está a vosso cargo. Cuidem dele de boa vontade, não contrariados, não pelo que podem vir a ganhar com isso, mas por zelo em servir o Senhor. 3 Não dominem aqueles que vos foram confiados, mas conduzam-nos pelo vosso bom exemplo. 4 E quando o supremo Pastor vier, ele vos recompensará com uma coroa perpétua na sua glória.

5 Os mais novos, aceitem a autoridade dos anciãos e sujeitem-se todos uns aos outros, com humildade, porque "Deus opõe-se aos orgulhosos, mas favorece os humildes."*5.5 Pv 3.34.6 Portanto, se se humilharem sob a poderosa mão de Deus, ele a seu tempo vos elevará. 7 Entreguem-lhe toda a vossa ansiedade, porque ele cuida de vocês.

8 Vivam sobriamente. Estejam vigilantes quanto aos ataques do Diabo, o vosso inimigo que vos cerca, rugindo como um leão, buscando a quem possa tragar. 9 Resistam-lhe firmes na fé. E lembrem-se de que outros cristãos, por todo o mundo, passam pelas mesmas aflições.

10 Depois de terem sofrido um pouco de tempo, o nosso Deus, que é fonte de imensa bondade, e que vos dará a sua eterna glória em Cristo Jesus, virá pessoalmente para vos aperfeiçoar, confirmar e fortificar. 11 Seja-lhe pois dada a glória e o poder para sempre. Amém!

12 Escrevi-vos esta pequena carta com a ajuda de Silas, que considero um irmão fiel. Espero ter-vos encorajado com estas linhas, pois dei-vos o testemunho de como a graça de Deus está convosco, seja o que for que aconteça. Permaneçam firmes nele.

13 A igreja-irmã em Babilónia*5.13 Poderá ser um nome codificado querendo significar Roma. manda-vos saudações, tal como o meu filho Marcos. 14 Saúdem-se uns aos outros com um beijo de amor fraterno.

1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3 Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. 4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. 5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
