1 Quem é este que vem de Edom, da cidade de Bozra com uma roupa magnífica tingida de vermelho? Quem é este, assim vestido com fatos reais, marchando na exaltação da sua força?

"Sou eu que promovo a justiça! Eu, poderoso para salvar!"

2 Então porque está assim a tua roupa tão vermelha, como se estivesse manchada de vinho, como se tivesses estado a pisar no lagar?

3 "Sim, estive a pisar sozinho no lagar. Ninguém ali estava para me ajudar. Na minha ira esmaguei os meus inimigos como cachos de uvas. Na minha cólera pisei os meus adversários. É o sangue deles que veem na minha roupa. 4 Porque chegou o tempo de vingar o meu povo, de o resgatar das mãos dos seus opressores. 5 Olhei e não vi ninguém que viesse socorrê-lo. Fiquei espantado. Por isso, decidi executar sozinho a vingança. Sem o auxílio de ninguém fiz eu o julgamento. 6 Esmaguei as nações pagãs na minha cólera, fi-las cambalear e cair redondamente no chão."

7 Falarei das bondades do Senhor! Louvá-lo-ei por tudo quanto fez por nós! Alegrar-me-ei pela sua grande bondade para com Israel, que ele concedeu de acordo com a sua misericórdia e o seu amor! 8 Disse ele: "São meus, pertencem-me! Nunca mais serão mentirosos, enganadores!" E tornou-se o seu Salvador. 9 Por cada uma das suas aflições foi ele angustiado e o próprio anjo da sua presença os salvou. No seu amor, na sua piedade, redimiu-os, reergueu-os e levou-os através dos séculos.

10 Contudo, revoltaram-se contra ele e ofenderam o Espírito Santo. Por isso, tornou-se seu inimigo e lutou pessoalmente contra eles.

11 Por fim, lembraram-se dos dias antigos em que Moisés, o servo de Deus, levou o seu povo para fora do Egito e clamaram: "Onde está aquele que conduziu Israel através do mar, com Moisés como pastor? Onde está o Deus que mandou o Espírito Santo entre o seu povo? 12 Onde está esse cujo grande e forte braço foi capaz de separar as águas do mar na frente deles, quando Moisés levantou a mão, confirmando para sempre o seu prestígio? 13 Quem foi que os levou através das profundezas do mar? Como fortes cavalos de raça, nunca tropeçaram através do deserto. 14 Como gado pastando nos vales, assim o Espírito do Senhor lhes deu repouso. Assim conduziste o teu povo e o teu nome se tornou glorioso."

15 Olha desde os céus e contempla-nos desde a tua santa e gloriosa morada! Onde está o amor que nos mostravas, o teu zelo, a tua misericórdia, a tua compaixão? Onde estão agora? 16 Certamente que ainda és o nosso Pai! Mesmo que Abraão ou Jacob não nos reconhecessem, tu, ó Senhor, és o nosso Pai e o nosso Redentor, desde a antiguidade. 17 Ó Senhor, porque é que permitiste que os nossos corações se endurecessem, nos desviássemos dos teus caminhos e não te honrássemos? Volta e ajuda-nos, porque nós, que te pertencemos, precisamos tanto de ti! 18 Como foi curto o tempo em que possuímos Jerusalém! E agora os nossos inimigos destruíram-na! 19 Ó Deus, tornámo-nos como aqueles sobre quem tu nunca governaste e como os que nunca se chamaram pelo teu nome!

1 Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.*63.1 glorious: Heb. decked 2 Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat? 3 I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment. 4 For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come. 5 And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me. 6 And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

7 I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the LORD, and the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD hath bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he hath bestowed on them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses. 8 For he said, Surely they are my people, children that will not lie: so he was their Saviour. 9 In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.

10 But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them. 11 Then he remembered the days of old, Moses, and his people, saying, Where is he that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his flock? where is he that put his holy Spirit within him?*63.11 shepherd: or, shepherds 12 That led them by the right hand of Moses with his glorious arm, dividing the water before them, to make himself an everlasting name? 13 That led them through the deep, as an horse in the wilderness, that they should not stumble? 14 As a beast goeth down into the valley, the Spirit of the LORD caused him to rest: so didst thou lead thy people, to make thyself a glorious name.

15 Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of thy holiness and of thy glory: where is thy zeal and thy strength, the sounding of thy bowels and of thy mercies toward me? are they restrained?*63.15 the sounding: or, the multitude 16 Doubtless thou art our father, though Abraham be ignorant of us, and Israel acknowledge us not: thou, O LORD, art our father, our redeemer; thy name is from everlasting.*63.16 our redeemer…: or, our redeemer from everlasting is thy name

17 O LORD, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways, and hardened our heart from thy fear? Return for thy servants’ sake, the tribes of thine inheritance. 18 The people of thy holiness have possessed it but a little while: our adversaries have trodden down thy sanctuary. 19 We are thine: thou never barest rule over them; they were not called by thy name.*63.19 they…: Heb. thy name was not called upon them
