1 Meus filhinhos, digo-vos isto para que se mantenham longe do pecado; mas se pecarem, existe um advogado a nosso favor junto do Pai. É Jesus Cristo, o justo.2 Ele tornou possível a nossa relação com Deus, pois que por ele foram expiados não só os nossos pecados, mas os de todo o mundo.3 E saberemos que conhecemos Deus se guardarmos os seus mandamentos.4 Se alguém disser: Eu conheço Deus, mas não segue os seus mandamentos é um mentiroso; nele não habita a verdade.5 Mas aquele que guarda a sua palavra mostra que o amor de Deus está perfeito nele. Esta é a maneira de constatarmos que estamos nele: é viver como ele viveu.7 Queridos irmãos, ao escrever isto não vos estou a dar um novo mandamento; estou antes a repetir o que desde o princípio ouviram. E este é o mandamento que sempre vos foi anunciado.8 E contudo é sempre como que um novo mandamento, e que já provou ser verdadeiro tanto em Cristo como em vocês. Porque vão desaparecendo as trevas, começando a brilhar então a verdadeira luz.9 Aquele que diz que anda na luz e aborrece o seu irmão na fé continua ainda em trevas.10 Mas quem ama o seu irmão está na luz e não é tropeço para ninguém11 Mas aquele que detesta o seu irmão é como se andasse em trevas sem saber para onde vai, pois que a própria escuridão o cega.12 Estou a escrever-vos estas coisas, meus queridos filhos, porque os vossos pecados vos são perdoados pelo nome de Jesus.513 Também aos pais, digo isto porque conhecem aquele que existe desde o princípio. E a vocês, jovens, vos escrevo porque venceram o Maligno.14 Enfim, meus filhos, se vos escrevo é porque têm conhecido Deus, o Pai. Por isso vos digo a vocês, pais, que conhecem o Deus eterno, e a vocês, gente moça, fortes como são, com a palavra de Deus em vocês, e tendo ganho a vossa luta contra Satanás.15 Deixem de amar este mundo mau e tudo quanto ele vos oferece porque se amamos o mundo mostramos que não temos o amor do Pai em nós.16 Porque tudo isto que existe no mundo - os desejos corruptos da natureza carnal, a sede de ter o que nos atrai o olhar, assim como o orgulho da posse e do poder - não vêm de Deus, mas faz parte da própria vida no mundo.17 E este mundo passará, com toda a sua corrupção, mas aquele que faz a vontade de Deus permanece para sempre.18 Queridos filhos, estamos no fim da história deste mundo. Vocês já ouviram que se aproxima o Anticristo , e já muitos como ele têm aparecido; e assim conhecemos que se aproxima o tempo do fim.619 Estes viviam no nosso meio, mas não eram dos nossos, porque senão teriam ficado connosco. Ao deixarem-nos provou-se que não pertenciam a nós.20 Mas vocês não são assim, porque receberam o Espírito Santo, e têm conhecimento da verdade.21 Não estou a escrever-vos como a alguém que precisa de conhecer a verdade, mas aviso-vos porque, sabendo vocês a verdade, devem ser capazes de discernir a diferença entre a verdade e a mentira.22 E quem é o mentiroso? É o homem que nega que Jesus é o Cristo. Toda a pessoa que não crê em Deus, o Pai, e no seu Filho, é um anticristo.23 Porque uma pessoa que não crê em Cristo, o Filho de Deus, rejeita igualmente Deus, o Pai; mas aquele que confessa ter Cristo no seu coração tem também o Pai.24 Continuem portanto guardando cuidadosamente aquilo que ouviram desde o princípio. Se assim fizerem, a vossa comunhão com Deus, o Pai, e com o Filho será permanente25 Foi ele próprio quem nos prometeu a vida eterna.26 Tudo isto vos escrevi por causa daqueles que vos enganam.27 Mas vocês receberam o Espírito Santo, o qual vive no vosso íntimo, de tal forma que nem é preciso que alguém venha dar-vos instruções. Ele ensina-vos tudo; e o que ele ensina é a verdade e não a mentira; assim, segundo o que ele já vos ensinou, permaneçam em Cristo.28 E agora, meus queridos filhos, mantenham-se em comunhão com o Senhor, para que, quando ele vier, estejam confiantes e não tenham que se envergonhar na sua presença.29 Visto que sabemos que Deus é justo, é lícito concluirmos que todo o que pratica a justiça é seu filho.

1 My little children, these things I write to you, that ye sin not. And if any man sinneth, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.3 And by this we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.5 But whoever keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: by this we know that we are in him.6 He that saith he abideth in him, ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.7 Brethren, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning: The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.8 Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him.11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because darkness hath blinded his eyes.12 I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.13 I write to you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, because ye have known the Father.14 I have written to you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loveth the world, the love of the Father is not in him.16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.17 And the world passeth away, and the lust of it: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist cometh, even now are there many antichrists; by which we know that it is the last time.19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.21 I have not written to you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.23 Whoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: but he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.25 And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.26 These things have I written to you concerning them that seduce you.27 But the anointing which ye have received from him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man should teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you concerning all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.28 And now, little children, abide in him; that when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.29 If ye know that he is righteous ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
