1 O Espírito de Deus diz claramente que nos últimos tempos muitos se desviarão do caminho da fé, passando a dar ouvidos a espíritos enganadores e a doutrinas de demónios2 Estes dizem-lhes mentiras com o maior descaramento e a sua própria consciência se tornou insensível.3 Serão contra o casamento, dirão que é preciso abster-se de certos alimentos, embora Deus os tenha criado para alimento também dos cristãos, dos que conhecem a verdade, para beneficiarem deles e dizerem a Deus o seu obrigado por isso.4 Pois que tudo o que Deus criou é bom para ser aproveitado com agradecimento àquele que o criou5 Porque assim esses alimentos, por meio da oração feita de acordo com a palavra de Deus, são dedicados a Deus.6 Se explicares estas coisas aos teus irmãos, estarás a ser um bom elemento ao serviço de Jesus Cristo, mostrando que te tens fortalecido com a palavra da fé e da verdadeira doutrina, que tens seguido.7 Não percas o teu tempo com fábulas e velhas histórias profanas; empenha-te antes, com disciplina, no caminho de Deus8 O exercício físico tem algum valor, mas o desenvolvimento da vida espiritual é útil em toda a maneira, nesta vida e também n-a futura9 Esta é uma palavra digna de confiança, que merece ser aceite por toda a gente.10 Com efeito, se trabalhamos e se lutamos, é porque a nossa esperança está no Deus vivo, que é o Salvador de todos os homens, daqueles que aceitaram a sua salvação.11 É esta a mensagem que deves comunicar e ensinar12 Que ninguém te desconsidere por seres jovem. Mas sê um exemplo para os crentes pela forma como falas e no modo como vives, pelo amor cristão, pela fé, pela pureza13 Enquanto eu aí não chegar, continua a ler as Escrituras para a igreja, a exortar e a ensinar.14 Não te desinteresses pelos dons que possuis, e que te foram dados a partir do momento em que os responsáveis da igreja, em nome de Deus, puseram sobre ti as mãos.15 Medita nestas coisas; ocupa-te e dá-te inteiramente a elas, e os teus progressos serão certamente constatados por toda a gente.16 Mantém-te vigilante sobre ti mesmo e sobre aquilo que ensinas; mantém-te fiel nestas coisas, e assim te salvarás a ti mesmo, como aos que te ouvem.

1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons;2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their conscience seared with a hot iron;3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving by them who believe and know the truth.4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if received with thanksgiving:5 For it is sanctified by the word of God, and prayer.6 If thou shalt put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou wilt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished by the words of faith and of good doctrine, to which thou hast attained.7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather to godliness.8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable to all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.9 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation.10 For therefore we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God who is the Savior of all men, especially of those that believe.11 These things command and teach.12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in deportment, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.16 Take heed to thyself and to thy doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou wilt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
