1 Eu, Paulo, escolhido por Deus como mensageiro de Jesus Cristo, e o irmão Timóteo, dirigimo-nos aos santos em Colossos - os irmãos fiéis em Cristo - desejando-lhes a graça e a paz de Deus nosso Pai.3 Sempre que oramos por vocês, exprimimos a Deus, Pai de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, a nossa gratidão, pois temos sabido da vossa fé em Cristo Jesus e do vosso amor cristão para com todo o povo de Deus,5 por causa da esperança que vos está reservado no céu. Essa esperança brotou em vocês depois que ouviram a mensagem de verdade do evangelho; a qual, assim como chegou até vocês, da mesma forma também tem ido por todo o mundo, dando frutos, tal como aconteceu no vosso meio, desde que ouviram e conheceram o verdadeiro significado da graça de Deus.7 É o que vos pregou Epafras, nosso querido colaborador, e que foi, para vocês, um fiel enviado de Cristo.8 Ele contou-nos todo o amor que o Espírito vos tem inspirado.9 E por isso mesmo, nós também, desde o dia em que ouvimos falar a vosso respeito pela primeira vez, não temos cessado de orar por vocês, e de pedir que tenham um conhecimento cada vez mais completo da vontade de Deus, através de uma clara compreensão e sabedoria das coisas espirituais, a fim de que a vossa conduta seja digna do Senhor, agradando-lhe em tudo, dando frutos em toda a espécie de actos bons, e crescendo no conhecimento de Deus.11 E que sejam fortalecidos pelo seu poder glorioso, para poderem suportar com paciência e com alegria as dificuldades.12 E que saibam agradecer a Deus que nos fez dignos de participar da herança que ele reserva aos crentes que vivem na sua luz.13 Porque foi Deus quem nos tirou do império das trevas e nos transferiu para o reino do seu Filho amado;14 o qual comprou para nós a libertação do pecado, pelo preço do seu próprio sangue.15 Cristo é a imagem do Deus invisível. Ele existe antes de Deus ter criado todas as coisas e está acima de toda a criação16 Na verdade, foi através dele que Deus criou tudo o que há nos céus e sobre a Terra, até os governantes, as autoridades, os que têm o poder e a força, tanto no mundo espiritual como no terreno. Tudo isso foi estabelecido por Cristo, e para Cristo.17 Antes que tudo tivesse sido criado, já ele tinha existência; e todo o universo se mantém graças a ele.18 Cristo é a cabeça da igreja, a qual é o seu corpo. E é o princípio de uma vida nova, o primeiro a ter ressuscitado dos mortos, e é consequentemente o primeiro em tudo e sobre todas as coisas!19 Porque Deus em toda a sua plenitude decidiu estar presente em Cristo,20 e por ele Deus reconciliou todas as coisas consigo mesmo. Cristo estabeleceu a paz com tudo que existe no céu e na Terra por meio do seu sangue na cruz.21 Portanto vocês também estão incluídos nessa obra de reconciliação, vocês que antes eram estranhos; vocês que até eram inimigos;22 contudo agora Deus vos fez seus amigos, através da morte do próprio corpo humano de Cristo. E agora podem apresentar-se perante Deus purificados dos vossos pecados, sem culpa, irrepreensíveis,23 na condição de permanecerem firmemente estabelecidos nos fundamentos da fé, sem se afastarem da esperança que o evangelho fez nascer em vocês, o qual vos tem sido pregado, assim como também a toda a gente em todo o mundo, e do qual eu, Paulo, me tornei o mensageiro.24 E é isso que faz a minha alegria: que eu esteja a sofrer por vossa causa. Estou assim a cumprir os sofrimentos que Cristo me disse para assumir pela causa do seu corpo, que é a igreja.25 É esta igreja que eu sirvo e de que fui feito mensageiro por parte de Deus, para proclamar a sua mensagem plena aos gentios.!26 Essa mensagem era o plano que esteve oculto desde sempre, através dos séculos e foi agora revelado aos crentes;27 aos quais quis dar a conhecer toda a riqueza e o carácter glorioso deste projecto não revelado antes aos homens. Em síntese é isto: Cristo ocupando todo o vosso ser; o que é já garantia total da vida eterna passada na glória de Deus, que é a nossa esperança agora.28 É pois Cristo que anunciamos, ensinando e aconselhando toda a gente, segundo com toda a sabedoria, para que possamos trazer à presença de Deus todo o ser humano, tornado perfeito e Cristo.29 Este é o meu trabalho, e é também um combate que eu travo com a energia de Deus que actua em mim poderosamente.

1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,2 To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are at Colosse: Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,4 Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which ye have heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;6 Which is come to you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:7 As ye also learned from Epaphras our dear fellow-servant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ;8 Who also declared to us your love in the Spirit.9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;10 That ye may walk worthy of the Lord to all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, to all patience and long-suffering with joyfulness;12 Giving thanks to the Father, who hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his beloved Son:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of every creature:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are upon earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the first-born from the dead; that in all things he may have the pre-eminence.19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell;20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things to himself; by him, I say, whether they are things on earth, or things in heaven.21 And you, that were formerly alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled,22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblamable and unreprovable in his sight:23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which hath been preached to every creature which is under heaven; of which I Paul am made a minister;24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:25 Of which I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God;26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages, and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.29 For which I also labor, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.
