1 O reino dos céus pode ser também explicado pela situação daquelas dez jovens que pegaram nas suas lâmpadas e foram ao encontro do noivo.2 Mas só cinco delas tiveram prudência bastante para encher convenientemente as lâmpadas de azeite, enquanto as outras cinco, que eram pouco ajuizadas, se esqueceram de o fazer5 Como o noivo se demorasse, deitaram-se para descansar, sendo à meia-noite despertadas por alguém que gritou: 'Vem aí o noivo! Saiam a recebê-lo!7 Todas se levantaram logo e arranjaram as lâmpadas. Então, as cinco que não tinham azeite pediram às outras que lhes dessem algum, porque as suas lâmpadas estavam a apagar-se. Mas as outras responderam: 'Não, porque depois não chega para todas. Vão comprá-lo.10 Enquanto foram, o noivo chegou; as que estavam prontas entraram com ele para a festa de casamento, e a porta foi trancada. Mais tarde, quando as outras cinco voltaram, ficaram na rua, chamando: 'Senhor, abre-nos a porta . Mas ele respondeu: 'Não vos conheço .13 Portanto, conservem-se despertos e estejam preparados, pois não sabem a data nem o momento do meu regresso.14 O reino dos céus pode também ser comparado ao caso de um homem que ia para outro país e que, reunindo os empregados, lhes entregou dinheiro para o aplicarem por sua conta, enquanto andasse por fora. Entregou cinco moedas de ouro a um, duas a outro e uma ao último, conforme as capacidades de cada um, e depois partiu.16 O homem que recebeu cinco moedas de ouro começou logo a comprar e a vender com elas, e depressa ganhou outras cinco. O que tinha duas moedas deitou-se também ao trabalho e ganhou outras duas. Mas o que recebera uma cavou um buraco no chão e escondeu ali o dinheiro para o pôr bem seguro.19 Passado muito tempo, o patrão voltou da viagem e chamou-os para que dessem contas do dinheiro20 Aquele a quem tinha confiado cinco moedas de ouro trouxe-lhe dez21 O homem gabou-o pelo seu bom trabalho: 'Foste fiel na maneira como negociaste com esta pequena quantia. Portanto vou entregar-te muito mais responsabilidades. E entretanto poderás gozar de todos os benefícios e privilégios que pus à tua disposição.22 Depois, veio o que tinha recebido duas moedas, que disse: 'Confiaste-me duas moedas e dobrei a quantia. v23 'Bom trabalho , observou o patrão. 'És um trabalhador capaz e de confiança. Foste fiel com essa pequena soma, por isso agora dou-te muito mais.24 Então veio o homem que recebera uma moeda e disse: 'Senhor, eu sabia que és um homem duro, ceifando onde não semeaste e colhendo onde não cultivaste. Tive medo de perder o teu dinheiro, portanto escondi-o na terra; aqui o tens.26 Mas o patrão respondeu: 'Foste indolente e descuidado! Se sabias que ceifo onde não semeio e recolho onde não cultivo, devias ao menos ter posto o meu dinheiro no banco para que pudesse assim ter algum juro. Tirem o dinheiro a este homem e dêem-no ao das dez moedas!o29 Porque a quem usa bem o que lhe dão, mais se dará, e terá muito. Mas ao homem que é infiel, até o pouco que lhe foi confiado lhe será tirado. E mandem esse trabalhador inútil lá para fora, para a escuridão, onde há choro e desespero.31 Quando eu, o Filho do Homem, vier na minha glória com todos os anjos, então sentar-me-ei no meu trono glorioso, e todas as nações serão reunidas diante de mim. Separarei o povo como um pastor aparta as ovelhas das cabras, e porei as ovelhas à minha direita e as cabras à minha esquerda.34 E então eu, o rei, direi aos que estiverem à minha direita: 'Venham, filhos felizes do meu Pai, para o reino que vos foi preparado desde o princípio do mundo. Porque tive fome e deram-me de comer; tive sede e deram-me água; era estranho e convidaram-me para vossas casas; andava nu e vestiram-me; estive doente e cuidaram de mim; estive na prisão e visitaram-me.37 Esses homens justos perguntarão: 'Senhor, quando foi que alguma vez te vimos com fome e te demos de comer? Ou com sede e te demos de beber? Ou, sendo um estranho, te hospedámos? Ou nu, te vestimos? Quando te vimos alguma vez doente, ou na prisão, e te visitámos? ?40 E eu, o rei, lhes direi: 'Quando fizeram isso a um destes meus mais insignificantes irmãos, a mim o fizeram!41 Voltar-me-ei para os que estiverem à minha esquerda e lhes direi: 'Saiam daqui, malditos, para o fogo eterno preparado para Satanás e seus demónios, porque tive fome e não me deram de comer; tive sede e não me deram de beber; fui um estranho e não me deram hospedagem; andava nu e não quiseram vestir-me; estive doente e na prisão e não me visitaram.44 Então responderão: 'Senhor, quando foi que alguma vez te vimos com fome, ou sede, ou, sendo tu estranho, ou andando nu, ou estando doente, ou na prisão, não te socorremos?45 E responderei: 'Quando não quiseram socorrer o mais insignificante destes meus irmãos, era a mim que recusavam ajuda. d46 E estes irão para o castigo eterno, mas os justos irão para a vida eterna.

1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened to ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.8 And the foolish said to the wise, Give us of your oil: for our lamps are gone out.9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.10 And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready, went in with him to the marriage, and the door was shut.11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.12 But he answered and said, Verily I say to you, I know you not.13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of man cometh.14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered to them his goods.15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and forthwith took his journey.16 Then he that had received the five talents, went and traded with the same, and gained other five talents.17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.18 But he that had received one, went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.20 And he that had received five talents, came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst to me five talents: behold, I have gained besides them five talents more.21 His lord said to him, Well done thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.22 He also that had received two talents came, and said, Lord, thou deliveredst to me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents besides them.23 His lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.24 Then he who had received the one talent came, and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strewed:25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast what is thine.26 His lord answered and said to him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not strewed:27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received my own with interest.28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it to him who hath ten talents.29 For to every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into utter darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then will he sit upon the throne of his glory:32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:33 And he will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.34 Then will the King say to them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:35 For I was hungry, and ye gave me food: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came to me.37 Then will the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came to thee?40 And the king will answer and say to them, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye have done it to one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it to me.41 Then will he say also to them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:42 For I was hungry, and ye gave me no food: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.44 Then will they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to thee?45 Then will he answer them, saying, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
