1 Kunpa leimahtaisit kuin tuli tiheikössä, kuin tuli, joka saa veden kiehumaan!
2 (H64:1)Näytä jo vihollisille nimesi voima, niin että kansakunnat vapisevat sinun edessäsi,
3 (H64:2)kun teet pelottavan voimallisia tekoja, meillekin ennalta aavistamattomia. Kunpa astuisit alas ja panisit vuoret järisemään!
4 (H64:3)Ikimuistoisista ajoista ei ole tietoon tullut, ei korva ole kuullut, ei silmä nähnyt, että olisi muuta jumalaa kuin sinä, Jumalaa, joka auttaa niitä, jotka häntä odottavat.
5 (H64:4)Sinä olet etsinyt niitä, jotka iloiten täyttäisivät tahtosi, jotka sinua muistaen kulkisivat teitäsi. Mutta me teimme syntiä, ja sinä vihastuit, me rikoimme sinun tahtoasi vastaan, ja sinä kätkit kasvosi meiltä.
6 (H64:5)Kuin saastaa me olemme olleet, kuin tahrainen riepu on koko meidän vanhurskautemme. Me kaikki olemme kuin kuihtuneita lehtiä, ja syyllisyytemme pyyhkäisee meidät pois kuin tuuli.
7 (H64:6)Ei ole ketään, joka kutsuisi sinua avuksi, joka havahtuisi ja turvaisi sinuun. Sinä olet kätkenyt meiltä kasvosi ja jättänyt meidät pahojen tekojemme valtaan.
8 (H64:7)Mutta olethan sinä, Herra, meidän isämme! Me olemme savea, sinä saven valaja, kaikki me olemme sinun kättesi tekoa.
9 (H64:8)Herra, älä ylen määrin vihastu meihin, älä loputtomiin muistele meidän pahoja tekojamme. Katso meitä. Kaikki me olemme sinun kansaasi.
10 (H64:9)Sinun pyhät kaupunkisi ovat nyt raunioina, Siion on kuin aavikko, Jerusalemissa asuu autius.
11 (H64:10)Pyhä, ihana huoneemme, jossa isämme sinua ylistivät, on jäänyt tulen saaliiksi. Kaikki meille kallis ja rakas on tuhottu.
12 (H64:11)Voitko sinä, Herra, tyynenä katsoa tätä? Yhäkö vain olet vaiti ja annat vaivaa vaivan päälle?
1 Oh, that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, -that the mountains might flow down at thy presence,
2 -as fire kindleth brushwood, as the fire causeth water to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations might tremble at thy presence!
3 When thou didst terrible things {which} we looked not for, thou camest down, and the mountains flowed down at thy presence.
4 Never have {men} heard, nor perceived by the ear, nor hath eye seen a God beside thee, who acteth for him that waiteth for him.
5 Thou meetest him that rejoiceth to do righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways: (behold, thou wast wroth, and we have sinned:) in those is perpetuity, and we shall be saved.
6 And we are all become as an unclean {thing}, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have carried us away;
7 and there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee; for thou hast hidden thy face from us, and hast caused us to melt away through our iniquities.
8 And now, Jehovah, thou art our Father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
9 Be not wroth very sore, O Jehovah, neither remember iniquity for ever. Behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people.
10 Thy holy cities are become a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.
11 Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burnt up with fire, and all our precious things are laid waste.
12 Wilt thou restrain thyself in presence of these things, Jehovah? Wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore?
