1 Manas'seh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Heph'zibah.2 And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominable practices of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel.3 For he rebuilt the high places which Hezeki'ah his father had destroyed; and he erected altars for Ba'al, and made an Ashe'rah, as Ahab king of Israel had done, and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served them.4 And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "In Jerusalem will I put my name."5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.6 And he burned his son as an offering, and practiced soothsaying and augury, and dealt with mediums and with wizards. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger.7 And the graven image of Ashe'rah that he had made he set in the house of which the LORD said to David and to Solomon his son, "In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name for ever;8 and I will not cause the feet of Israel to wander any more out of the land which I gave to their fathers, if only they will be careful to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them."9 But they did not listen, and Manas'seh seduced them to do more evil than the nations had done whom the LORD destroyed before the people of Israel.10 And the LORD said by his servants the prophets,11 "Because Manas'seh king of Judah has committed these abominations, and has done things more wicked than all that the Amorites did, who were before him, and has made Judah also to sin with his idols;12 therefore thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing upon Jerusalem and Judah such evil that the ears of every one who hears of it will tingle.13 And I will stretch over Jerusalem the measuring line of Sama'ria, and the plummet of the house of Ahab; and I will wipe Jerusalem as one wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down.14 And I will cast off the remnant of my heritage, and give them into the hand of their enemies, and they shall become a prey and a spoil to all their enemies,15 because they have done what is evil in my sight and have provoked me to anger, since the day their fathers came out of Egypt, even to this day."16 Moreover Manas'seh shed very much innocent blood, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another, besides the sin which he made Judah to sin so that they did what was evil in the sight of the LORD.17 Now the rest of the acts of Manas'seh, and all that he did, and the sin that he committed, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?18 And Manas'seh slept with his fathers, and was buried in the garden of his house, in the garden of Uzza; and Amon his son reigned in his stead.19 Amon was twenty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Meshul'lemeth the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah.20 And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, as Manas'seh his father had done.21 He walked in all the way in which his father walked, and served the idols that his father served, and worshiped them;22 he forsook the LORD, the God of his fathers, and did not walk in the way of the LORD.23 And the servants of Amon conspired against him, and killed the king in his house.24 But the people of the land slew all those who had conspired against King Amon, and the people of the land made Josi'ah his son king in his stead.25 Now the rest of the acts of Amon which he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?26 And he was buried in his tomb in the garden of Uzza; and Josi'ah his son reigned in his stead.

1 Manassés tinha doze anos de idade quando se tornou rei de Judá. Ele governou cinquenta e cinco anos em Jerusalém. A mãe dele se chamava Hefziba. 2 Manassés pecou contra Deus, o Senhor, seguindo os costumes nojentos das nações que o Senhor havia expulsado da terra conforme o povo de Israel avançava. 3 Ele construiu de novo os lugares pagãos de adoração que Ezequias, o seu pai, havia destruído. Construiu altares para a adoração do deus Baal e fez um poste da deusa Aserá, como Acabe, rei de Israel, havia feito. Manassés também adorou as estrelas 4 e construiu altares pagãos no Templo onde, conforme o Senhor Deus tinha dito, ele devia ser adorado. 5 Nos dois pátios do Templo, Manassés construiu altares para a adoração das estrelas. 6 Queimou o seu filho em sacrifício, fazia adivinhações e feitiçarias e consultava adivinhos e médiuns. Pecou muito contra Deus, o Senhor, e fez com que ele ficasse irado. 7 Manassés colocou uma imagem esculpida da deusa Aserá no Templo, o lugar a respeito do qual o Senhor tinha dito o seguinte a Davi e ao seu filho Salomão: "Em todo o território das doze tribos de Israel, escolhi este Templo, aqui em Jerusalém, para ser o lugar onde serei adorado para sempre. 8 E, se o povo de Israel obedecer a todos os meus mandamentos e fizer tudo o que manda a Lei que o meu servo Moisés deu a eles, então eu não deixarei que sejam expulsos da terra que dei aos seus antepassados." 9 Mas o povo de Judá não obedeceu a Deus, e Manassés os levou a cometer pecados ainda piores do que aqueles cometidos pelas nações que o Senhor Deus havia destruído conforme o seu povo ia avançando.

10 Por meio dos seus servos, os profetas, o Senhor Deus disse:

11 — O rei Manassés, de Judá, tem feito essas coisas nojentas, coisas muito piores do que aquelas que os amorreus fizeram, e com os seus ídolos levou o povo de Judá a pecar. 12 Por isso, eu, o Senhor, o Deus de Israel, vou fazer cair sobre Jerusalém e sobre Judá uma desgraça tão grande, que todos aqueles que ouvirem contar a respeito dela ficarão espantados. 13 Eu castigarei Jerusalém como fiz com a cidade de Samaria e como fiz com o rei Acabe, de Israel, e com os seus descendentes. Deixarei Jerusalém limpa do seu povo, tão limpa como um prato que foi esfregado e virado de boca para baixo. 14 Eu abandonarei as pessoas que não tiverem morrido e as entregarei aos seus inimigos, que as prenderão e que roubarão tudo o que houver na sua terra. 15 Farei isso com o meu povo porque eles têm feito coisas erradas, que não me agradam, e me têm deixado irado desde o tempo em que os antepassados deles saíram do Egito até hoje.

16 Manassés matou tantas pessoas inocentes, que as ruas de Jerusalém ficaram alagadas de sangue. Além disso, ele cometeu o pecado de levar o povo de Judá a adorar ídolos, fazendo o que é errado, o que não agrada a Deus, o Senhor.

17 Todas as outras coisas que Manassés fez e também os pecados que ele cometeu, tudo isso está escrito na História dos Reis de Judá. 18 Manassés morreu e foi sepultado no jardim do palácio, o jardim de Uzá, e o seu filho Amom ficou no lugar dele como rei.

19 Amom tinha vinte e dois anos de idade quando se tornou rei de Judá. Ele governou dois anos em Jerusalém. A mãe dele se chamava Mesulemete e era filha de Haruz, da cidade de Jotbatá.

20 Como o seu pai Manassés, Amom fez coisas erradas, que não agradam a Deus, o Senhor. 21 Ele imitou as ações do seu pai e adorou e serviu os ídolos que o seu pai havia adorado. 22 Assim Amom abandonou o Senhor, o Deus dos seus antepassados, e foi desobediente a ele.

23 Os oficiais de Amom fizeram uma revolta contra ele e o mataram no palácio. 24 Mas o povo de Judá matou todos os que haviam feito a revolta contra Amom e pôs o seu filho Josias como rei.

25 Todas as outras coisas que Amom fez estão escritas na História dos Reis de Judá. 26 Amom foi sepultado no seu túmulo, no jardim de Uzá, e o seu filho Josias ficou no lugar dele como rei.
