1 So ermahne ich euch nun, ich, der Gebundene im Herrn, daß ihr würdig wandelt der Berufung, zu welcher ihr berufen worden seid, 2 so daß ihr mit aller Demut und Sanftmut, mit Geduld einander in Liebe ertraget 3 und fleißig seid, die Einheit des Geistes zu bewahren in dem Bande des Friedens: 4 ein Leib und ein Geist, wie ihr auch berufen seid zu einer Hoffnung eurer Berufung; 5 ein Herr, ein Glaube, eine Taufe; 6 ein Gott und Vater aller, über allen, durch alle und in allen. 7 Jedem einzelnen von uns aber ist die Gnade gegeben nach dem Maß der Gabe Christi. 8 Darum heißt es: «Er ist aufgefahren zur Höhe, hat Gefangene gemacht und den Menschen Gaben gegeben.» 9 Das [Wort] aber «Er ist aufgefahren», was bedeutet es anderes, als daß er auch zuvor hinabgefahren ist in die untersten Örter der Erde? 10 Der hinabgefahren ist, ist derselbe, welcher auch hinaufgefahren ist über alle Himmel, damit er alles erfülle. 11 Und Er hat gegeben etliche zu Aposteln, etliche zu Propheten, etliche zu Evangelisten, etliche zu Hirten und Lehrern, 12 um die Heiligen zuzurüsten für das Werk des Dienstes, zur Erbauung des Leibes Christi, 13 bis daß wir alle zur Einheit des Glaubens und der Erkenntnis des Sohnes Gottes gelangen und zum vollkommenen Manne [werden], zum Maße der vollen Größe Christi; 14 damit wir nicht mehr Unmündige seien, umhergeworfen und herumgetrieben von jedem Wind der Lehre, durch die Spielerei der Menschen, durch die Schlauheit, mit der sie zum Irrtum verführen, 15 sondern [daß wir], wahrhaftig in der Liebe, heranwachsen in allen Stücken in ihm, der das Haupt ist, Christus, 16 von welchem aus der ganze Leib, zusammengefügt und verbunden durch alle Gelenke, die einander Handreichung tun nach dem Maße der Leistungsfähigkeit jedes einzelnen Gliedes, das Wachstum des Leibes vollbringt, zur Auferbauung seiner selbst in Liebe. 17 Das sage und bezeuge ich nun im Herrn, daß ihr nicht mehr wandeln sollt, wie die Heiden wandeln in der Eitelkeit ihres Sinnes, 18 deren Verstand verfinstert ist und die entfremdet sind dem Leben Gottes, wegen der Unwissenheit, die in ihnen ist, wegen der Verhärtung ihres Herzens; 19 die, nachdem sie alles Gefühl verloren, sich der Ausschweifung ergeben haben, zur Ausübung jeder [Art von] Unreinigkeit mit unersättlicher Gier. 20 Ihr aber habt Christus nicht also [kennen] gelernt; 21 da ihr ja von ihm gehört habt und in ihm gelehrt worden seid (wie es auch Wahrheit ist in Jesus), 22 daß ihr, was den frühern Wandel betrifft, den alten Menschen ablegen sollt, der sich wegen der betrügerischen Lüste verderbte, 23 dagegen euch im Geiste eures Gemüts erneuern lassen 24 und den neuen Menschen anziehen sollt, der nach Gott geschaffen ist in Gerechtigkeit und Heiligkeit der Wahrheit. 25 Darum leget die Lüge ab und redet die Wahrheit, ein jeder mit seinem Nächsten, denn wir sind untereinander Glieder. 26 Zürnet ihr, so sündiget nicht; die Sonne gehe nicht unter über eurem Zorn! 27 Gebet auch nicht Raum dem Teufel! 28 Wer gestohlen hat, der stehle nicht mehr, sondern bemühe sich vielmehr mit seinen Händen etwas Gutes zu erarbeiten, damit er dem Dürftigen etwas zu geben habe. 29 Keine schlechte Rede gehe aus eurem Munde, sondern was gut ist zur notwendigen Erbauung, daß es den Hörern wohltue. 30 Und betrübet nicht den heiligen Geist Gottes, mit welchem ihr versiegelt worden seid auf den Tag der Erlösung. 31 Alle Bitterkeit und Grimm und Zorn und Geschrei und Lästerung sei ferne von euch samt aller Bosheit. 32 Seid aber gegeneinander freundlich, barmherzig, vergebet einander, gleichwie auch Gott in Christus euch vergeben hat.
