1 *2 Sam 17:23, 2 Krön 32:24f, Jes 38:1f. Vid den tiden*20:1Vid den tidenCa år 702-701 f Kr (jfr 2 Kung 18:2, 13, 20:6), någon gång före Sanheribs belägring (jfr vers 6). blev Hiskia dödssjuk. Profeten Jesaja, Amos son, kom till honom och sade: "Så säger Herren: Se om ditt hus, för du kommer att dö och ska inte tillfriskna." 2 *Ps 30:3. Då vände Hiskia sitt ansikte mot väggen och bad till Herren: 3 "O, Herre, kom ihåg att jag har vandrat inför dig i trohet och med hängivet hjärta och gjort det som är gott i dina ögon." Och Hiskia grät mycket.

4 Innan Jesaja hunnit ut ur den inre staden, kom Herrens ord till honom. Han sade: 5 *2 Mos 3:7, 2 Kung 19:20, Ps 39:13, Apg 7:34. "Vänd om och säg till Hiskia, fursten över mitt folk: Så säger Herren, din fader Davids Gud: Jag har hört din bön. Jag har sett dina tårar. Se, jag ska göra dig frisk*20:5göra dig friskSe Jes 38:9f för en sång av Hiskia efter hans tillfrisknande.. I övermorgon ska du få gå upp till Herrens hus. 6 *2 Kung 19:34, Ps 61:7. Jag ska lägga femton år till din livstid. Jag ska också rädda dig och denna stad ur den assyriske kungens hand. Jag ska beskydda denna stad för min skull och för min tjänare Davids skull." 7 *Jes 38:21. Jesaja sade: "Hämta en fikonkaka." Då hämtade man en fikonkaka och lade den på bölden, och han blev frisk.

8 *Jes 7:11. Och Hiskia sade till Jesaja: "Vad är tecknet på att Herren ska göra mig frisk, så att jag i övermorgon får gå upp till Herrens hus?" 9 Jesaja svarade: "Detta ska för dig vara tecknet från Herren på att Herren ska göra vad han har sagt: Ska skuggan gå tio steg framåt eller ska den gå tio steg tillbaka?" 10 Hiskia sade: "Det är lätt för skuggan att sträcka sig tio steg framåt. Nej, låt den i stället gå tio steg tillbaka." 11 Då ropade profeten Jesaja till Herren, och han lät skuggan gå tillbaka de tio steg som den redan hade gått på Ahas trappa*20:11Ahas trappaKanske en sorts solur (känt från Egypten redan på Moses tid)..

12 *2 Krön 20:12, Jes 39:1f. Vid den tiden sände Babels kung Merodak-Baladan*20:12Merodak-BaladanKaldeisk stamledare som var kung i Babel ca 722-710 f Kr. Avsattes av assyriern Sargon II men gjorde sedan uppror igen vid Sargons död 705 f Kr (se not till Jes 21:9), troligen i samordning med Hiskia (2 Kung 18:7)., Baladans son, brev och en gåva till Hiskia, för han hade fått höra att Hiskia varit sjuk. 13 När Hiskia hade hört på dem, visade han dem hela sin skattkammare, sitt silver och guld, sina kryddor, sin dyrbara olja och hela sitt vapenförråd och allt som fanns i hans förrådshus. Det fanns ingenting i Hiskias hus eller något annat i hans ägo som han inte visade dem.

14 Då kom profeten Jesaja till kung Hiskia och sade till honom: "Vad sade de där männen? Varifrån kom de till dig?" Hiskia svarade: "De kom från ett avlägset land, från Babel." 15 Jesaja frågade: "Vad har de sett i ditt hus?" Hiskia svarade: "De fick se allt som finns i mitt hus. Det finns ingenting i mina förrådshus som jag inte låtit dem se."

16 Då sade Jesaja till Hiskia: "Hör Herrens ord: 17 *2 Kung 24:13f, 25:13f, Jer 52:17f. Se, dagar ska komma då allt som finns i ditt hus och som dina fäder har samlat ända till denna dag ska föras bort till Babel. Ingenting ska bli kvar, säger Herren. 18 *2 Kung 24:12, 2 Krön 31:11, Dan 1:3f. Och man ska ta några av de söner*20:18sönerÄttlingar till kungahuset, t ex Daniel, fördes till Babel 605 f Kr (Dan 1:3). som ska utgå från dig och som du kommer att föda, och de ska bli hovmän i den babyloniske kungens palats." 19 Hiskia sade till Jesaja: "Det är ett gott Herrens ord du har talat." Han tänkte: "Det blir ju fred och trygghet under min livstid."

20 Vad som mer finns att säga om Hiskia och alla hans bedrifter, om hur han anlade dammen och vattenledningen*20:20dammen och vattenledningenHiskia ledde in Gihonkällans vatten (2 Krön 32:30) till Siloamdammen (Joh 9:7) genom en 0,5 km lång tunnel som kan besökas än i dag. En bevarad inskription i tunneln beskriver hur de två grävarlagen möttes halvvägs. Jfr Jes 22:9f. och ledde vatten in i staden, det är skrivet i Juda kungars krönika. 21 Hiskia gick till vila hos sina fäder och hans son Manasse blev kung efter honom.

And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.

8 And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the LORD the third day? 9 And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees? 10 And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees. 11 And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the LORD: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz.*20.11 dial: Heb. degrees

12 At that time Berodach-baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah: for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick.*20.12 Berodach-baladan: or, Merodach-baladan 13 And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and shewed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not.*20.13 precious things: or, spicery*20.13 armour: or, jewels: Heb. vessels

14 Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, even from Babylon. 15 And he said, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All the things that are in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them. 16 And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, Hear the word of the LORD. 17 Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD. 18 And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon. 19 Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days?*20.19 Is it…: or, Shall there not be peace and truth, etc

20 And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made a pool, and a conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 21 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers: and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
