4 *1 Sam 16:1, 4, Mika 5:2, Matt 2:6, Joh 7:42. Så reste också Josef från staden Nasaret i Galileen upp till Judeen, till Davids stad som kallas Betlehem, eftersom han var av Davids hus och släkt. 5 Han kom för att skattskriva sig tillsammans med Maria, sin trolovade som var havande.

6 Medan de befann sig där var tiden inne för henne att föda, 7 *Matt 1:25. och hon födde sin son, den förstfödde. Hon lindade honom och lade honom i en krubba, eftersom det inte fanns plats för dem i gästrummet*2:7gästrummetGrek. katályma betyder normalt "gästrum" (jfr Luk 22:11). Det upptagna gästrummet kan ha legat i ett härbärge (jfr Jer 41:17) eller troligare hos släktingar till Josef (vers 4). Boningshus (jfr Matt 2:11) kunde ha en stalldel med krubbor för djuren..

8 I samma trakt fanns några herdar som låg ute och vaktade sin hjord om natten. 9 Då stod en Herrens ängel framför dem och Herrens härlighet lyste omkring dem, och de blev mycket rädda. 10 Men ängeln sade: "Var inte rädda! Jag bär bud till er om en stor glädje för hela folket: 11 I dag har en Frälsare fötts åt er i Davids stad. Han är Messias, Herren*2:11HerrenAnspelning på det högsta gudsnamnet Jhvh, som normalt uttalades Adonai ("Herren").. 12 Och detta är tecknet för er: Ni ska finna ett nyfött barn som är lindat och ligger i en krubba."

13 Och plötsligt var där tillsammans med ängeln en stor himmelsk här som prisade Gud:

15 När änglarna hade lämnat dem och återvänt till himlen, sade herdarna till varandra: "Vi måste gå in till Betlehem och se det som har hänt och som Herren låtit oss veta!" 16 De skyndade i väg och fann Maria och Josef och barnet som låg i krubban. 17 När de hade sett det, berättade de vad som var sagt till dem om detta barn. 18 Alla som hörde det förundrades över vad herdarna berättade för dem. 19 Men Maria bevarade och begrundade allt detta i sitt hjärta.

20 Och herdarna vände hem och prisade och lovade Gud för allt de fått höra och se, just så som det hade blivit sagt till dem.

När åtta dagar hade gått och barnet skulle omskäras fick han namnet Jesus, det namn som ängeln hade gett honom innan han blev till*2:21blev tillGrek. syllemfthénaisyftar på graviditetens startpunkt ("avlades"). Andligen är Messias ursprung "från evighetens dagar" (Mika 5:2, jfr även Joh 1:1). i sin mors liv.

När tiden var inne för deras rening*2:22tiden … för deras reningEn kvinna som fött en son skulle stanna hemma i 40 dagar och därefter frambära ett reningsoffer i templet (se 3 Mos 12:1f). enligt Mose lag, tog de med honom upp till Jerusalem för att bära fram honom inför Herren, 23 som det står skrivet i Herrens lag: Varje förstfödd son som öppnar moderlivet ska räknas som helgad åt Herren.*2:23 2 Mos 13:2, 12.24 *3 Mos 12:6f. 25 *Jes 40:1, 49:13. I Jerusalem fanns en man som hette Simeon. Han var rättfärdig och gudfruktig och väntade på Israels tröst, och den helige Ande var över honom. 26 Av den helige Ande hade han fått en uppenbarelse att han inte skulle se döden förrän han sett Herrens Smorde*2:26SmordeHebr. "Messias" och grek. "Kristus", Guds utlovade frälsare, kung och profet.. 27 Ledd av Anden kom han till templet, och när föräldrarna bar in barnet Jesus för att göra med honom som man brukade enligt lagen, 28 tog han honom i sina armar och prisade Gud och sade:

så som du har lovat,

33 Hans far och mor förundrades över det som sades om honom. 34 *Jes 8:14, Luk 20:18, Apg 28:22, Rom 9:33, 1 Kor 1:23f, 1 Petr 2:7. Och Simeon välsignade dem och sade till hans mor Maria: "Se, han är satt till fall och upprättelse för många i Israel, och till att vara ett tecken som väcker motstånd. 35 *Joh 19:25. Också genom din själ ska det gå ett svärd. Så ska många hjärtans tankar uppenbaras."

36 Där fanns också en profetissa, Hanna, Fanuels dotter av Ashers stam. Hon hade kommit upp i hög ålder. I sju år hade hon fått leva med sin man efter sin tid som jungfru, 37 *1 Tim 5:5. och nu var hon änka, åttiofyra år gammal. Hon lämnade aldrig templet utan tjänade Gud med fastor och böner natt och dag. 38 *Jes 52:9. Just i den stunden kom hon fram och prisade Gud och talade om honom för alla som väntade på Jerusalems frälsning.

39 *Matt 2:23. När de hade fullgjort allt som var bestämt i Herrens lag, återvände de till Galileen och sin hemstad Nasaret. 40 *Luk 1:80, 2:52. Och pojken växte och blev starkare och fylldes av vishet, och Guds välbehag vilade över honom.

41 *2 Mos 23:17, 5 Mos 16:16f. Hans föräldrar brukade varje år gå upp till Jerusalem vid påskhögtiden. 42 När Jesus var tolv år gick de upp till högtiden som vanligt, 43 men när festdagarna var över och de vände hemåt, stannade pojken Jesus kvar i Jerusalem utan att hans föräldrar visste om det. 44 De antog att han var med i ressällskapet och vandrade en hel dag innan de började söka efter honom bland släktingar och bekanta. 45 När de inte fann honom, vände de tillbaka till Jerusalem för att söka efter honom.

46 Efter tre dagar fann de honom i templet, där han satt mitt bland lärarna och lyssnade på dem och ställde frågor. 47 *Joh 7:15, 46. Alla som hörde honom häpnade över hans förstånd och hans svar. 48 När föräldrarna fick se honom blev de bestörta, och hans mor sade till honom: "Mitt barn! Varför har du gjort så här mot oss? Din far och jag har varit så oroliga och letat efter dig." 49 Då sade han till dem: "Varför har ni letat efter mig? Visste ni inte att jag måste vara hos min Far*2:49hos min FarAnnan översättning: "i det som hör till min Far".?" 50 *Luk 9:45, 18:34. Men de förstod inte vad det var han sade till dem.

51 Därefter följde han med dem ner till Nasaret och underordnade sig dem. Hans mor bevarade allt detta i sitt hjärta. 52 *1 Sam 2:26. Och Jesus växte i vishet, ålder*2:52ålderAnnan översättning: "längd". och välbehag inför Gud och människor.

and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. 26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, 28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: 30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, 31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; 32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. 33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him. 34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; 35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. 36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; 37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. 38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. 39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth. 40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. 41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. 43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. 44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. 45 And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. 46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. 47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. 48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. 49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business? 50 And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them. 51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
