1 No undécimo ano, no terceiro mês, ao primeiro dia do mês, veio a mim a palavra de Jeová, dizendo:2 Filho do homem, dize a Faraó e à sua multidão: A quem és semelhante na tua grandeza?3 Eis que Assíria era um cedro do Líbano, de ramos formosos, de ramagem sombria e de alta estatura; e a sua copa se achava entre a densa ramada.4 As águas nutriram-no, o abismo fê-lo crescer; os seus rios corriam em torno do seu plantio; e ele mandou os seus regatos a todas as árvores do campo.5 Por isso se elevou a sua estatura sobre todas as árvores do campo; multiplicaram-se os seus ramos e alongaram-se as suas varas por causa das muitas águas, quando os enviou.6 Todas as aves do céu se aninhavam nos ramos dele, e debaixo das suas varas davam à luz as suas crias todos os animais do campo, e debaixo da sua sombra habitavam todas as grandes nações.7 Assim era ele formoso na sua grandeza, no cumprimento das suas varas; porque a sua raiz se achava junto a muitas águas.8 Os cedros do jardim de Deus não o podiam esconder; os ciprestes não eram como os seus ramos, e os plátanos não eram como as suas varas; nenhuma árvore do jardim de Deus se assemelhava a ele na sua formosura.9 Fi-lo formoso pela multidão dos seus ramos; de maneira que tiveram inveja dele todas as árvores do Éden, que havia no jardim de Deus.10 Portanto assim diz o Senhor Jeová: Porquanto é elevado em estatura, e se elevou a sua copa entre a densa ramada, e o seu coração se levantou na sua altura;11 entregá-lo-ei nas mãos do poderoso das nações; certamente este há de tratar com ele. Eu o lancei fora por causa da sua maldade.12 Uns estrangeiros, os terríveis das nações, o exterminaram, e o deixaram; sobre os montes e em todos os vales caíram as suas varas, e os seus ramos estão quebrados junto a todas as correntes da terra; todos os povos da terra se retiraram da sua sombra, e o deixaram.13 Sobre a sua ruína habitarão todas as aves do céu, e todos os animais do campo estarão sobre as suas varas;14 para que nenhuma de todas as árvores junto às águas se exalte na sua estatura, nem levante a sua copa entre a densa ramada, nem se levantem na sua altura os seus poderosos, sim todos os que bebem água; porque todos eles estão entregues à morte, às partes inferiores da terra, no meio dos filhos dos homens, juntamente com os que descem à cova.15 Assim diz o Senhor Jeová: No dia em que ele desceu ao Cheol, fiz que houvesse luto. Por causa dele cobri o abismo, e retive os seus rios, e ficaram paradas as grandes águas; e fiz que o Líbano o pranteasse, e todas as árvores do campo desfaleceram por causa dele.16 Fiz estremecer as nações ao som da sua queda, quando o lancei no Cheol juntamente com os que descem à cova; e todas as árvores do Éden, as escolhidas e as melhores do Líbano, todas as que bebem água, foram consoladas nas partes inferiores da terra.17 Juntamente com ele desceram ao Cheol, os que foram mortos à espada; sim desceram com ele os que foram o seu braço, e que habitavam debaixo da sua sombra no meio das nações.18 A quem és assim semelhante em glória e em grandeza entre as árvores do Éden? contudo serás precipitado juntamente com as árvores do Éden às partes inferiores da terra; no meio dos incircuncisos te deitarás juntamente com os que forem mortos à espada. Este é Faraó e toda a sua multidão, diz o Senhor Jeová.

1 And it came to pass in the eleventh year, the third month, the first day of the month, that the word of the Lord came to me, saying:2 Son of man, speak to Pharao king of Egypt, and to his people: To whom art thou like in thy greatness?3 Behold, the Assyrian was like a cedar in Libanus, with fair branches, and full of leaves, of a high stature, and his top was elevated among the thick boughs.4 The waters nourished him, the deep set him up on high, the streams thereof ran round about his roots, and it sent forth its rivulets to all the trees of the country.5 Therefore was his height exalted above all the trees of the country: and his branches were multiplied, and his boughs were elevated because of many waters.6 And when he had spread forth his shadow, all the fowls of the air made their nests in his boughs, and all the beasts of the forest brought forth their young under his branches, and the assembly of many nations dwelt under his shadow.7 And he was most beautiful for his greatness, and for the spreading of his branches: for his root was near great waters.8 The cedars in the paradise of God wars not higher than he, the fir trees did not equal his top, neither were the plane trees to be compared with him for branches: no tree in the paradise of God was like him in his beauty.9 For I made him beautiful and thick set with many branches: and all the trees of pleasure, that were in the paradise of God, envied him.10 Therefore thus saith the Lord God Because he was exalted in height, and shot up his top green and thick, and his heart was lifted up in his height:11 I have delivered him into the hands of the mighty one of the nations, he shall deal with him: I have cast him out according to his wickedness.12 And strangers, and the most cruel of the nations shall cut him down, and cast him away upon the mountains, and his boughs shall fall in every valley, and his branches shall be broken on every rock of the country: and all the people of the earth shall depart from his shadow, and leave him.13 All the fowls of the air dwelt upon his ruins, and all the beasts of the field were among his branches.14 For which cause none of the trees by the waters shall exalt themselves for their height: nor shoot up their tops among the thick branches and leaves, neither shall any of them that are watered stand up in their height: for they are all delivered unto death to the lowest parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down into the pit.15 Thus saith the Lord God: In the day when he went down to hell, I brought in mourning, I covered him with the deep: and I withheld its rivers, and restrained the many waters: Libanus grieved for him, and all the trees of the field trembled.16 I shook the nations with the sound of his fall, when I brought him down to hell with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of pleasure, the choice and best in Libanus, all that were moistened with waters, were comforted in the lowest parts of the earth.17 For they also shall go down with him to hell to them that are slain by the sword: and the arm of every one shall sit down under his shadow in the midst of the nations.18 To whom art thou like, O thou that art famous and lofty among the trees of pleasure? Behold, thou art brought down with the trees of pleasure to the lowest parts of the earth: thou shalt sleep in the midst of the uncircumcised, with them that are slain by the sword: this is Pharao, and all his multitude, saith the Lord God.
