1 Aos presbíteros, pois, que estão entre vós, rogo eu, que sou co-presbítero e testemunha dos sofrimentos de Cristo e que sou participante da glória que se há de manifestar:2 Pastoreai o rebanho de Deus, que está entre vós, não por força, mas espontaneamente segundo a vontade de Deus; nem por amor de lucro vergonhoso, mas de boa vontade;3 nem como querendo ter domínio sobre os que vos foram confiados, mas fazendo-vos exemplares do rebanho.4 Quando se manifestar o sumo Pastor, recebereis a imperecível coroa da glória.5 Do mesmo modo vós que sois mais moços, sede sujeitos aos que são mais velhos; e cingi-vos todos de humildade, para servirdes uns aos outros, porque Deus resiste aos soberbos, mas aos humildes dá graça.6 Humilhai-vos, pois, debaixo da poderosa mão de Deus, para que vos exalte a seu tempo,7 lançando sobre ele toda a vossa ansiedade, porque ele tem cuidado de vós.8 Sede sóbrios, vigiai. O vosso adversário, o Diabo, anda ao redor de vós, como leão rugindo, buscando a quem possa devorar;9 resisti-lhe, firmes na fé, sabendo que os mesmos sofrimentos estão-se cumprindo nos vossos irmãos que estão no mundo.10 O próprio Deus de toda a graça, que vos chamou em Cristo para a sua eterna glória, depois que tiverdes padecido um pouco, vos há de aperfeiçoar, estabelecer, fortificar e consolidar.11 A ele seja dado o domínio pelos séculos dos séculos. Amém.12 Por Silvano, que é, como entendo, fiel irmão, vos escrevi resumidamente, exortando e protestando que esta é a verdadeira graça de Deus, em que deveis ficar firmes.13 Saúda-vos a igreja que está em Babilônia, eleita convosco, e o mesmo faz meu filho Marcos.14 Saudai-vos uns aos outros com ósculo de caridade. 1 Therefore, as a fellow elder, a witness of Christ's sufferings, and one who shares in the glory to be revealed, I appeal to the elders among you:2 Be shepherds of God's flock that is among you, watching over it, not because you must but because you want to, and not greedily but eagerly, as God desires.3 Do not lord it over the people entrusted to you, but be examples to the flock.4 Then, when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the victor's crown of glory that will never fade away.5 In a similar way, you young people must be submissive to the elders. All of you must put on the apron of humility before one another, because "God opposes the arrogant,but gives grace to the humble."6 Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that at the proper time he may exalt you.7 Throw all your worry on him, because he cares for you.8 Be clear-minded and alert. Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.9 Resist him and be firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering.10 After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you in Christ Jesus to his eternal glory, will restore you, establish you, strengthen you, and support you.11 Power belongs to him forever and ever! Amen.12 Through Silvanus, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written this short letter to encourage you and to testify that this is the true grace of God.
