1 Simão Pedro, servo e apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, aos que alcançaram fé igualmente preciosa conosco na justiça de nosso Deus e Salvador Jesus Cristo:2 Graça e paz vos sejam multiplicadas no pleno conhecimento de Deus e de Jesus nosso Senhor,3 visto que o seu divino poder nos tem dado tudo o que diz respeito à vida e à piedade, pelo pleno conhecimento daquele que nos chamou por sua glória e virtude,4 pelas quais ele nos tem comunicado as suas preciosas e mui grandes promessas, para que por elas vos torneis participantes da natureza divina, tendo escapado da corrupção que há no mundo pela cobiça.5 Por isso mesmo vós, aplicando da vossa parte toda a diligência, ajuntai à vossa fé a virtude;6 à virtude, a ciência; à ciência, a temperança; à temperança, a fortaleza; à fortaleza, a piedade;7 à piedade, o amor dos irmãos; e ao amor dos irmãos, a caridade.8 Pois se estas coisas vos pertencem e abundam em vós, fazem que não sejais ociosos nem sem fruto no pleno conhecimento de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo;9 mas aquele em quem não há estas coisas, é cego, vendo só o que está perto, porque se tem esquecido da purificação dos seus pecados antigos.10 Por isso, irmãos, ponde cada vez maior cuidado em fazer firme a vossa vocação e eleição; porque fazendo isto, não tropeçareis jamais.11 Pois assim vos será dada largamente a entrada no reino eterno de nosso Senhor e Salvador Jesus Cristo. vinda de Cristo12 Pois sempre estarei pronto para vos fazer lembrar estas coisas, ainda que as sabeis e estais confirmados na verdade que vos está presente.13 Tenho por justo, enquanto estou neste tabernáculo, despertar-vos com recordações,14 sabendo que brevemente hei de deixar este meu tabernáculo, segundo o que também me deu a entender nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.15 Mas terei cuidado também que a todo o tempo depois da minha retirada, possais ter lembrança destas coisas.16 Pois não seguimos fábulas engenhosas, quando vos fizemos conhecer o poder e a vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo; mas nós fomos testemunhas oculares da sua majestade,17 porquanto ele recebeu de Deus Pai honra e glória, quando pela Magnífica Glória lhe foi comunicada esta voz: Este é o meu Filho dileto, em quem me agrado.18 Nós ouvimos esta voz, do céu comunicada, quando estávamos com ele no monte santo.19 Ainda temos mais segura a palavra dos profetas, a qual fazeis bem de atender, como a uma candeia que alumia num lugar escuro, até que o dia esclareça e a estrela da alva surja nos vossos corações;20 conhecendo primeiro isto, que nenhuma profecia da Escritura é de particular interpretação,21 porque a profecia jamais foi dada pela vontade dos homens, mas os homens da parte de Deus falavam, movidos pelo Espírito Santo.

1 From Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a faith that is as valuable as ours through the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ.2 May grace and peace be yours in abundance through the full knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord!3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the full knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and excellence.4 Through these he has given us his precious and wonderful promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, seeing that you have escaped the corruption that is in the world caused by evil desires.5 For this very reason, you must make every effort to supplement your faith with moral character, your moral character with knowledge,6 your knowledge with self-control, your self-control with endurance, your endurance with godliness,7 your godliness with brotherly kindness, and your brotherly kindness with love.8 For if you possess these qualities, and if they continue to increase among you, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in attaining a full knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.9 For the person who lacks these qualities is blind and shortsighted, and has forgotten the cleansing that he has received from his past sins.10 So then, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election certain, for if you keep on doing this you will never fail.11 For in this way you will be generously granted entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.12 Therefore, I intend to keep on reminding you about these things, even though you already know them and are firmly established in the truth that you now have.13 Yet I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I am living in this bodily tent,14 because I know that the removal of my bodily tent will come soon, as indeed our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me.15 And I will make every effort to see that you will always remember these things after I am gone.16 When we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, we did not follow any clever myths. Rather, we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice of the Majestic Glory was conveyed to him as follows: "This is my Son, whom I love. I am pleased with him."18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.19 Thus we regard the message of the prophets as confirmed beyond doubt, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp that is shining in a gloomy place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.20 First of all, you must understand this: No prophecy in Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation,21 because no prophecy ever originated through a human decision. Instead, men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
