1 Portanto vos rogo eu, o prisioneiro no Senhor, que andeis de uma maneira digna da vocação com que fostes chamados,2 com toda a humildade e mansidão, com longanimidade, suportando-vos uns aos outros em caridade,3 esforçando-vos diligentemente para guardar a unidade do Espírito no vínculo da paz;4 um só corpo há e um só Espírito, como também fostes chamados em uma só esperança da vossa vocação;5 um só Senhor, uma só fé, um só batismo;6 um só Deus e Pai de todos, que é sobre todos e por todos e em todos.7 Mas a cada um de nós foi dada a graça conforme a medida do dom de Cristo.8 Por isso diz: Quando ele subiu ao alto, levou cativo o cativeiro, Deu dons aos homens.9 (Ora que quer dizer isto: Ele subiu, senão que também desceu aos lugares mais baixos da terra?10 Aquele que desceu é também o que subiu muito acima de todos os céus, para encher todas as coisas.)11 Ele deu uns como apóstolos, outros como profetas, outros como evangelistas, outros como pastores e mestres,12 tendo em vista o aperfeiçoamento dos santos para o trabalho do ministério, para a edificação do corpo de Cristo,13 até que todos cheguemos à unidade da fé e do pleno conhecimento do Filho de Deus, ao estado de homem feito, à medida da estatura da plenitude de Cristo,14 para que não mais sejamos meninos, jogados de um para outro lado e levados ao redor por todos os ventos de doutrina, pela fraudulência dos homens, pela astúcia tendente à maquinação do erro;15 mas praticando a verdade em amor, cresçamos em todas as coisas até chegarmos a ele, que é a cabeça, Cristo,16 de quem todo o corpo conjuntado e coligado pelo que toda a junta supre, segundo a operação na medida de cada membro, efetua o aumento do corpo para edificação de si mesmo em amor.17 Isto, portanto, digo e testifico no Senhor, que não mais andeis como também andam os gentios na vaidade de sua mente,18 sendo obscurecidos no seu entendimento, alienados da vida de Deus, pela ignorância que há neles por causa do endurecimento do seu coração,19 os quais, tendo-se tornado insensíveis, se entregaram à lascívia, para praticarem com avidez toda a imundícia.20 Mas vós não aprendestes assim a Cristo;21 se é que o ouvistes e fostes instruídos nele, como está a verdade em Jesus,22 a vos despir, no que diz respeito ao vosso procedimento anterior, do homem velho que se corrompe segundo as cobiças do engano,23 e a vos renovar no espírito da vossa mente,24 e a vos revestir do homem novo que segundo Deus foi criado em justiça e santidade da verdade.25 Por isso renunciando a mentira, falai a verdade cada um com o seu próximo, pois somos membros uns dos outros.26 Irai-vos, e não pequeis; não se ponha o sol sobre a vossa ira,27 nem deis lugar ao Diabo.28 Aquele que furta, não furte mais; mas antes trabalhe, obrando com as suas próprias mãos o que é bom, para que tenha com que repartir com o que tem necessidade.29 Nem uma palavra torpe saia da vossa boca, senão a que seja boa para a edificação conforme a necessidade, para que ministre graça aos que a ouvem.30 Não entristeçais ao Espírito Santo de Deus, no qual fostes selados para o dia da redenção.31 Toda a amargura e cólera e ira e gritaria e calúnia sejam tiradas do meio de vós com toda a malícia.32 Tornai-vos, porém, bondosos uns para com os outros, compassivos, perdoando-vos uns aos outros, como também Deus em Cristo vos perdoou.

1 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, urge you to live in a way that is worthy of the calling to which you have been called,2 with all humility and gentleness, along with patience, accepting one another in love.3 Do your best to maintain the unity of the Spirit by means of the bond of peace.4 There is one body and one Spirit. In the same way, you were called to the one hope of your calling.5 There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism,6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, through all, and in all.7 Now to each one of us grace has been given according to the measure of Christ's gift.8 That is why God says, "When he went up to the highest placehe led captives into captivityand gave gifts to people."9 Now what does this "he went up" mean except that he also had gone down into the lower parts of the earth?10 The one who went down is the same one who went up above all the heavens so that he might fill everything.11 And it is he who gifted some to be apostles, others to be prophets, others to be evangelists, and still others to be pastors and teachers,12 to perfect the saints, to do the work of ministry, and to build up the body of Christ13 until all of us are united in the faith and in the full knowledge of God's Son, and until we attain mature adulthood and the full standard of development in Christ.14 Then we will no longer be little children, tossed like waves and blown about by every wind of doctrine, by people's trickery, or by clever strategies that would lead us astray.15 Instead, by speaking the truth in love, we will grow up completely into the one who is the head, that is, into Christ,16 in whom the whole body is united and held together by every ligament with which it is supplied. As each individual part does its job, the body's growth is promoted so that it builds itself up in love.17 Therefore, I tell you and insist on in the Lord not to live any longer like the Gentiles live, thinking worthless thoughts.18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of their ignorance and hardness of heart.19 Since they have lost all sense of shame, they have abandoned themselves to sensuality and practice every kind of sexual perversion without restraint.20 However, that is not the way you came to know Christ.21 Surely you have listened to him and have been taught by him, since truth is in Jesus.22 Regarding your former way of life, you were taught to strip off your old man, which is being ruined by its deceptive desires,23 to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,24 and to clothe yourselves with the new man, which was created according to the likeness of God in righteousness and true holiness.25 Therefore, stripping off falsehood, "let each of us speak the truth to his neighbor," for we are members of one another.26 "Be angry, yet do not sin." Do not let the sun go down on your wrath,27 and do not give the devil an opportunity to work.28 The thief must no longer steal but must work hard and do what is good with his own hands, so that he might have something to give to the needy.29 Let no filthy talk come out of your mouths, but only what is good for building up as the need may be. This way you will give grace to those who hear you.30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit, by whom you were marked with a seal for the day of redemption.31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, quarreling, and slander be put away from you, along with all hatred.32 And be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another just as God has forgiven you in Christ.
