1 Paulo e Timóteo, servos de Cristo Jesus, a todos os santos em Cristo Jesus que estão em Filipos, com os bispos e diáconos:2 Graça a vós e paz da parte de Deus nosso Pai e da do Senhor Jesus Cristo.3 Dou graças ao meu Deus por toda a lembrança que de vós tenho,4 sempre em todas as minhas súplicas por todos vós rogando com alegria5 pela vossa cooperação a favor do Evangelho desde o primeiro dia até agora;6 estando eu persuadido disto mesmo, de que aquele que em vós começou a boa obra, a aperfeiçoará até o dia de Cristo Jesus;7 como é justo que eu pense assim de todos vós, porque vos tenho no meu coração, porquanto todos vós sois participantes comigo da graça tanto nas minhas prisões como na defesa e confirmação do Evangelho.8 Pois Deus é minha testemunha das saudades que tenho de todos vós na terna misericórdia de Cristo Jesus.9 Isto rogo, que vosso amor cresça cada vez mais no pleno conhecimento e em todo o discernimento;10 para que aproveis as coisas que são excelentes, a fim de que sejais sinceros e sem ofensa para o dia de Cristo;11 cheios do fruto de justiça, que é por meio de Jesus Cristo, para glória e louvor de Deus.12 Quero, porém, irmãos, que conheçais que as coisas que me aconteceram, têm antes contribuído para o progresso do Evangelho,13 de maneira que as minhas prisões se tornaram manifestas em Cristo a toda a guarda pretoriana, e a todos os demais;14 e que a maioria dos irmãos, animados no Senhor pelas minhas prisões, são muito mais corajosos em falar sem temor a palavra de Deus.15 Alguns há, na verdade, que pregam a Cristo até por inveja e contenda, e outros o fazem de boa vontade:16 estes por caridade, sabendo que estou posto para a defesa do Evangelho,17 mas aqueles por discórdia anunciam a Cristo, não sinceramente, julgando suscitar-me tribulação nas minhas prisões.18 Mas que importa? contanto que de qualquer modo, ou por pretexto ou por verdade, Cristo seja anunciado; nisto me regozijo, e me regozijarei;19 porque sei que isto me resultará em salvação pela vossa súplica e pelo socorro do Espírito de Jesus Cristo,20 segundo a minha ardente expectativa e esperança de que em nada serei envergonhado, antes com toda a ousadia, como sempre, assim agora Cristo será engrandecido no meu corpo, quer pela vida, quer pela morte.21 Pois para mim o viver é Cristo, e o morrer é lucro.22 Mas se o viver na carne resultar em fruto do meu trabalho, não sei então o que hei de escolher.23 Porém de ambos os lados estou em aperto, porque tenho o desejo de partir e estar com Cristo, pois é muitíssimo melhor;24 mas o permanecer na carne é mais necessário por vossa causa.25 Persuadido disto, sei que ficarei e continuarei com todos vós para o vosso progresso e gozo da fé,26 a fim de que o motivo da vossa glória cresça por mim em Cristo Jesus pela minha presença de novo convosco.27 Somente portai-vos duma maneira digna do Evangelho de Cristo, para que, ou indo ver-vos, ou estando ausente, eu ouça dizer de vós que permaneceis em um só espírito, lutando com uma só alma pela fé do Evangelho;28 e que em nada estais atemorizados pelos vossos adversários, o que para eles é uma prova de perdição, mas para vós de salvação, e isto da parte de Deus.29 Pois vos foi concedido por amor de Cristo, não somente o crer nele, mas ainda o padecer por ele,30 sofrendo o mesmo combate que vistes em mim, e agora ouvis que está em mim.

1 From Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all the holy ones in Philippi who are united with Christ Jesus, with their overseers and deacons.2 May grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be yours!3 I thank my God every time I remember you,4 always praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.6 I am convinced of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Christ Jesus.7 For it is only right for me to think this way about all of you, because I have you in my heart. Both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, all of you are partners with me in grace.8 For God is my witness how much I long for all of you with the compassion of Christ Jesus.9 And this is my prayer, that your love will keep on growing more and more in full knowledge and perfect insight,10 so that you may be able to determine what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ,11 having been filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.12 Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has actually turned out for the progress of the gospel.13 As a result, it has become clear to the whole imperial guard and to everyone else that I am in prison because of Christ.14 Moreover, because of my imprisonment most of the brothers have been made confident in the Lord to speak God's word more boldly and courageously than ever before.15 Some are preaching Christ because of their envy and rivalry, while others do so because of their good will.16 The latter are motivated by love, because they know that I have been appointed for the defense of the gospel.17 The former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition and without sincerity, thinking that they will stir up trouble for me during my imprisonment.18 But what does it matter? Just this, that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is being proclaimed, and because of this I rejoice. Yes, I will continue to rejoice,19 because I know that this will result in my deliverance through your prayers and the help that comes from the Spirit of Jesus Christ.20 This is according to my eager expectation and hope that I will have nothing to be ashamed of. Instead, because of my boldness Christ will be exalted in my body, now as always, whether I live or die.21 For to me, to go on living is Christ, and to die is gain.22 Now if I go on living in this body, that will produce more results, yet I do not know which I would prefer.23 Indeed, I cannot decide between the two. I have the desire to leave this life and be with Christ, for that is far better.24 But for your sake it is better that I remain in this body.25 Since I am convinced of this, I know that I will continue to live and be with all of you for the sake of your progress and joy in the faith.26 Then your boasting in Christ Jesus will increase along with mine through my coming again to you.27 The only thing that matters is that you continue to live as good citizens in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come to see you or whether I stay away, I may hear all about you—that you are standing firm in one spirit, struggling with one mind for the faith of the gospel,28 and that you are not intimidated by your opponents in any way. This is evidence that they will be destroyed and that you will be saved—and all because of God.29 For you have been given the privilege for Christ's sake not only to believe in him but also to suffer for him.30 You have the same struggle that you saw in me and now hear that I am still having.
