1 Alguns dias depois voltou Jesus a Cafarnaum, e soube-se que ele estava em casa.2 Muitos afluíram ali, a ponto de já não haver lugar nem junto à porta; e ele lhes dirigia a palavra.3 Trouxeram-lhe um paralítico, carregado por quatro homens,4 e não podendo apresentar-lho por causa da multidão, desladrilharam o eirado por cima de Jesus e, feita uma abertura, arrearam o leito em que jazia o paralítico.5 Vendo Jesus a fé que eles tinham, disse ao paralítico: Filho, perdoados são os teus pecados.6 Estavam, porém, ali sentados alguns escribas, que discorriam nos seus corações:7 Por que fala assim este homem? ele blasfema; quem pode perdoar pecados senão só um, que é Deus?8 Mas Jesus, percebendo logo em seu espírito que eles assim discorriam dentro de si, perguntou-lhes: Por que discorreis sobre estas coisas em vossos corações?9 Qual é mais fácil, dizer ao paralítico: Perdoados são os teus pecados, ou dizer: Levanta-te, toma o teu leito e anda?10 Para que saibais que o Filho do homem tem sobre a terra autoridade para perdoar pecados, disse ao paralítico:11 A ti te digo: Levanta-te, toma o teu leito e vai para tua casa.12 Ele se levantou, e no mesmo instante tomando o seu leito, retirou-se à vista de todos; de modo que todos ficaram atônitos, e glorificaram a Deus, dizendo: Nunca vimos coisa semelhante.13 Saiu outra vez para a beira-mar; toda a multidão vinha ter com ele, e ele os ensinava.14 Quando ia passando, viu a Levi, filho de Alfeu, sentado na coletoria, e disse-lhe: Segue-me. Ele se levantou e o seguiu.15 Estando Jesus à mesa na casa de Levi, sentaram-se também com ele e com seus discípulos muitos publicanos e pecadores; pois havia muitos que o seguiam.16 Vendo os escribas dos fariseus que ele comia com os pecadores e publicanos, perguntaram aos discípulos dele: Como é que ele come com os publicanos e pecadores?17 Jesus, ouvindo isto, respondeu-lhes: Os sãos não precisam de médico, mas sim os enfermos; eu não vim chamar os justos, mas os pecadores.18 (Ora os discípulos de João e os fariseus estavam jejuando.) Eles vieram perguntar-lhe: Por que jejuam os discípulos de João e os dos fariseus, mas os teus não jejuam?19 Respondeu-lhes Jesus: Podem, porventura, jejuar os convidados para o casamento, enquanto o noivo está com eles? Durante o tempo que têm consigo o noivo, não podem jejuar.20 Dias, porém, virão, em que lhes será tirado o noivo, nesses dias jejuarão.21 Ninguém cose remendo de pano novo em vestido velho; de outra forma o remendo novo tira parte do velho, e torna-se maior a rotura.22 Ninguém põe vinho novo em odres velhos; de outra forma o vinho fará arrebentar os odres, e perder-se-á o vinho, e também os odres. Pelo contrário vinho novo é posto em odres novos.23 Caminhando Jesus pelas searas em um sábado, os seus discípulos, ao passarem, começaram a colher espigas.24 Os fariseus lhe perguntaram: Olha, por que fazem eles no sábado o que não é lícito?25 Ele lhes respondeu: Nunca lestes o que fez Davi, quando se viu em necessidade e teve fome, ele e seus companheiros?26 Como entrou na casa de Deus, sendo Abiatar sumo sacerdote, e comeu os pães da proposição, os quais só aos sacerdotes era lícito comer, e ainda deu aos seus companheiros?27 Acrescentou: O sábado foi feito por causa do homem, e não o homem por causa do sábado;28 assim o Filho do homem é senhor até do sábado.

1 Several days later Jesus returned to Capernaum, and it was reported that he was at home.2 So many crowds had gathered that there wasn't any room left for them, even in front of the door. Jesus was speaking the word to them3 when some people came and brought him a paralyzed man being carried by four men.4 Since they couldn't bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof over the place where he was. They dug through it and let down the cot on which the paralyzed man was lying.5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man,"Son, your sins are forgiven."6 Now some scribes were sitting there, arguing among themselves,7 "Why does this man talk this way? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?"8 At once, Jesus knew in his spirit what they were saying to themselves. He said to them,"Why are you arguing about such things among yourselves?9 Which is easier: to say to the paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, pick up your cot, and walk’?10 But I want you to knowthat the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins."Then he said to the paralyzed man,11 "I say to you, get up, pick up your cot, and go home!"12 So the man got up, immediately picked up his cot, and went out before all of them.As a result, all of the people were amazed and began to glorify God, saying, "We have never seen anything like this!"13 Jesus went out again beside the sea. The whole crowd kept coming to him, and he kept teaching them.14 As he was walking along, he saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, sitting at the tax collector's desk. Jesus said to him,"Follow me!" So Levi got up and followed him.15 Later he was having dinner at Levi's house. Many tax collectors and sinners were also eating with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who were following him.16 When the scribes and the Pharisees saw him eating with sinners and tax collectors, they said to his disciples, "Why does he eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?"17 When Jesus heard that, he said to them,"Healthy people don't need a physician, but sick ones do. I did not come to call righteous people, but sinners."18 Now John's disciples and the Pharisees would fast regularly. Some people came and asked Jesus, "Why do John's disciples and the Pharisees’ disciples fast, but your disciples don't fast?"19 Jesus said to them,"The wedding guests can't fast while the groom is with them, can they? As long as they have the groom with them, they can't fast.20 But the days will come when the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast on that day."21 "No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the patch pulls away from it—the new from the old—and a worse tear is made.22 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will make the skins burst, and both the wine and the skins will be ruined. Instead, new wine is pouredinto fresh wineskins."23 Jesus happened to be going through the grainfields on the Sabbath. As they made their way, his disciples began picking the heads of grain.24 The Pharisees said to him, "Look! Why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?"25 He said to them,"Haven't you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need?26 How was it that he went into the House of God when Abiathar was high priest and ate the Bread of the Presence, which was not lawful for anyone but the priests to eat, and gave some of it to his companions?"27 Then he said to them,"The Sabbath was made for people, not people for the Sabbath.28 Therefore, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."
