A caridade é o supremo dom

1 Se eu falar as *1Co 12.10línguas dos homens e dos *cp.2Co 12.4;Ap 14.2anjos e não tiver caridade, tenho-me tornado como o bronze que soa ou como o *cp.Sl 150.5címbalo que retine. 2 Se eu tiver o dom de *At 13.1;1Co 11.4;1Co 13.8;1Co 14.1,39; cp.Mt 7.22profecia e souber todos os *1Co 14.2;15.51mistérios e *Rm 15.14toda a ciência; se tiver *1Co 12.9toda a fé, a ponto de *Mt 17.20;21.21remover montes, e não tiver caridade, nada sou. 3 Se eu *cp.Mt 6.2distribuir todos os meus bens em sustento dos pobres e *Dn 3.28se entregar o meu corpo para ser queimado, se, todavia, não tiver caridade, isso nada me aproveita. 4 A caridade *Pv 10.12;17.9;1Ts 5.14;1Pe 4.8é longânima, é benigna; a caridade *cp.At 7.9não é invejosa, não *1Co 4.6se jacta, não se ensoberbece, 5 não se porta inconvenientemente, *1Co 10.24; cp.Fp 2.21não busca os seus próprios interesses, não se irrita, *2Co 5.19não suspeita mal, 6 *cp.2Ts 2.12não se regozija com a injustiça, mas *cp.2Jo 4;3Jo 3s.regozija-se com a verdade; 7 *1Co 9.12tudo suporta, tudo crê, tudo espera, tudo sofre. 8 A caridade jamais se acaba; mas, quer haja *1Co 13.2profecias, desaparecerão; quer *1Co 13.1línguas, cessarão; quer ciência, desaparecerá. 9 Pois, *1Co 13.12;1Co 8.2em parte, conhecemos e, em parte, profetizamos; 10 mas, quando vier o que é perfeito, o que é em parte desaparecerá. 11 Quando eu era menino, falava como menino, sentia como menino, pensava como menino; desde que me tornei homem, dei de mão às coisas de menino. 12 Pois, agora, *cp.2Co 5.7;Fp 3.12;Tg 1.23vemos como por um espelho, em enigma; mas, então, *Gn 32.30;Nm 12.8;1Jo 3.2face a face; agora, conheço em parte, mas, então, conhecerei *1Co 8.3plenamente, assim como fui plenamente conhecido. 13 Mas, agora, permanecem estas três: a fé, a esperança, a caridade; porém a maior destas é a *cp.Gl 5.6caridade.

1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. 4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. 8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. 11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
