Davi poupa outra vez a vida de Saul

1 Vieram os zifitas ter com Saul, a Gibeá, e disseram: *1Sm 23.19;Sl 54, títuloNão se esconde Davi no outeiro de Haquilá, que é defronte do deserto? 2 Levantou-se Saul e desceu ao deserto de Zife, levando consigo *1Sm 13.2;24.2três mil homens escolhidos de Israel, para buscar a Davi ali. 3 Acampou-se Saul no outeiro de Haquilá, que é defronte do deserto, junto *1Sm 24.3ao caminho. Porém Davi morava no deserto, e, *1Sm 23.15sabendo que Saul vinha ali em sua procura, 4 enviou espias, e certificou-se de que Saul tinha vindo. 5 Levantou-se Davi, e foi ao lugar onde Saul se tinha acampado, e viu o lugar onde se deitavam Saul e *1Sm 14.50-51;17.55Abner, filho de Ner, general das suas tropas. Saul estava deitado dentro da trincheira, e ao redor dele estava acampado o povo.

6 Perguntou Davi a Aimeleque, *Gn 23.3;26.34;Js 3.10;1Rs 10.29;2Rs 7.6o heteu, e a *1Cr 2.15-16Abisai, filho de Zeruia, irmão de Joabe: Quem *Jz 7.10-11descerá comigo a Saul ao arraial? Respondeu Abisai: Eu descerei contigo. 7 Foram de noite Davi e Abisai ao povo. Eis que Saul estava deitado e dormindo dentro da trincheira, e a sua lança, fincada na terra, à sua cabeceira. Abner e o povo estavam deitados ao redor dele. 8 Então, disse Abisai a Davi: Deus te entregou hoje nas mãos o teu inimigo. Agora, deixa-me atravessá-lo com a lança até o chão dum só golpe; não lhe darei outro. 9 Mas Davi respondeu a Abisai: Não o mates, *1Sm 24.6-7;2Sm 1.14,16pois quem pode estender a mão contra o ungido de Jeová e ficar inocente? 10 Acrescentou Davi: Pela vida de Jeová, *1Sm 25.26,38Jeová o há de ferir ou *Dt 31.14chegará o seu dia, e morrerá ou *1Sm 31.6descerá para a batalha e perecerá. 11 *1Sm 24.6,12Não permita Jeová que eu estenda a mão contra o seu ungido; porém toma, agora, a lança que está à sua cabeceira e a bilha de água, e vamo-nos. 12 Davi tomou da cabeceira de Saul a lança e a bilha de água, e foram-se. Ninguém o viu, nem o soube, nem se despertou, pois todos dormiam, porque, da parte de Jeová, tinha caído sobre eles *Gn 2.21;15.12um profundo sono.

13 Tendo Davi passado à outra banda, pôs-se no cume do monte, ao longe, havendo uma grande distância entre eles. 14 Bradou ao povo e a Abner, filho de Ner, dizendo: Não respondes, Abner? Respondeu Abner: Quem és tu que bradas ao rei? 15 Disse-lhe Davi: Não és tu um valente? Quem há em Israel tal como tu? Por que não guardaste o rei, teu senhor? Porque veio um do povo para matar o rei, teu senhor. 16 Não é bom isso que fizeste; pela vida de Jeová, *1Sm 20.31mereceis vós a morte, porque não guardastes ao vosso senhor, ao ungido de Jeová. Vede, agora, onde está a lança do rei e a bilha de água que estava à sua cabeceira.

Conversa entre Davi e Saul

17 Conheceu Saul a voz de Davi e disse: *1Sm 24.16Não é esta a tua voz, meu filho Davi? Davi respondeu: Minha voz é, ó rei, meu senhor. 18 Prosseguiu: *1Sm 24.9,11-14Por que persegue o meu senhor ao seu servo? Pois que fiz eu? Que maldade se acha na minha mão? 19 Ouve, agora, ó rei, meu senhor, as palavras de teu servo: se é *2Sm 16.11Jeová o que te tem instigado contra mim, *Gn 8.21receba ele o cheiro de uma oferta de cereais; se, *1Sm 24.9porém, são os filhos dos homens, malditos sejam perante Jeová! Pois *Js 22.25-27eles me expulsaram hoje, para que eu não seja incluído na herança de Jeová, dizendo: Vai, serve a outros deuses. 20 Agora, não se derrame o meu sangue na terra fora da presença de Jeová; porque saiu o rei de Israel em busca de uma *1Sm 24.14pulga, como se persegue uma perdiz nos montes.

21 Disse Saul: *1Sm 15.24,30;24.17Pequei; volta, meu filho Davi, pois não te tornarei a fazer o mal, porque foi hoje preciosa a minha vida aos teus olhos. Eis que tenho procedido nesciamente, errado excessivamente. 22 Respondeu Davi: Eis aqui a lança, ó rei! Venha cá um dos mancebos e leve-a. 23 *1Sm 24.19Pague Jeová a cada um a sua justiça e a sua fidelidade; porquanto Jeová te entregou hoje na minha mão, e *1Sm 24.12eu não quis estender a mão contra o ungido de Jeová. 24 Assim como foi a tua vida hoje de muita estima aos meus olhos, assim seja *1Sm 18.30de muita estima a minha vida aos olhos de Jeová, e *Sl 54.7livre-me ele de toda a tribulação. 25 Disse Saul a Davi: *1Sm 24.19Bendito sejas tu, meu filho Davi! Pois grandes coisas farás e também, sem falta, prevalecerás. Então, se *1Sm 24.22foi Davi o seu caminho, e Saul voltou para o seu lugar.

1 And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon? 2 Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph. 3 And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness. 4 David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul was come in very deed.

5 And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David beheld the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay in the trench, and the people pitched round about him.*26.5 trench: or, midst of his carriages

6 Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? And Abishai said, I will go down with thee. 7 So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the people lay round about him. 8 Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time.*26.8 delivered: Heb. shut up 9 And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD’s anointed, and be guiltless? 10 David said furthermore, As the LORD liveth, the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish. 11 The LORD forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the LORD’s anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go. 12 So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul’s bolster; and they gat them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked: for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the LORD was fallen upon them.

13 Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of an hill afar off; a great space being between them: 14 And David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Answerest thou not, Abner? Then Abner answered and said, Who art thou that criest to the king? 15 And David said to Abner, Art not thou a valiant man? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king thy lord. 16 This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the LORD liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the LORD’s anointed. And now see where the king’s spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster.*26.16 worthy to die: Heb. the sons of death 17 And Saul knew David’s voice, and said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And David said, It is my voice, my lord, O king. 18 And he said, Wherefore doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in mine hand? 19 Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the LORD have stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if they be the children of men, cursed be they before the LORD; for they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, Go, serve other gods.*26.19 accept: Heb. smell*26.19 abiding: Heb. cleaving 20 Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the LORD: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains.

21 Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do thee harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly. 22 And David answered and said, Behold the king’s spear! and let one of the young men come over and fetch it. 23 The LORD render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness: for the LORD delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the LORD’s anointed. 24 And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the LORD, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation. 25 Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do great things, and also shalt still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
