Ausentes do corpo e presentes com o Senhor

1 Sabemos que, se a nossa *1Co 15.47; cp.2Co 4.7;Jó 4.19casa terrestre deste *2Pe 1.13s.tabernáculo for desfeita, temos de Deus um edifício, casa *cp.Mc 14.58;At 7.48;Hb 9.11,24não feita por mãos, eterna, nos céus. 2 Pois verdadeiramente neste tabernáculo *Rm 8.23;2Co 5.4gememos, desejando muito ser *cp.1Co 15.53s.;2Co 5.4revestidos da nossa habitação que é do céu, 3 se é que, estando vestidos, não formos achados nus. 4 Pois, na verdade, os que estamos neste tabernáculo gememos, estando carregados, por não desejarmos ser despidos, mas revestidos; para que o que é *1Co 15.54mortal seja absorvido pela vida. 5 Mas o que nos fez para este mesmo fim é Deus, *2Co 1.22; cp.Rm 8.23que nos deu o penhor do Espírito. 6 Temos, portanto, sempre bom ânimo e sabemos que, *cp.Hb 11.13s.enquanto estamos presentes no corpo, estamos ausentes do Senhor 7 *2Co 4.18;1Co 13.12(porque andamos por fé e não por visão); 8 temos bom ânimo, digo, e *cp.Fp 1.23antes queremos estar ausentes do corpo e *cp.Jo 12.26;Fp 1.23presentes com o Senhor. 9 É por isso que também nos esforçamos, quer presentes, quer ausentes, *Rm 14.18;Cl 1.10;1Ts 4.1para lhe agradar. 10 Pois é necessário que todos sejamos descobertos perante o *Mt 16.27; cp.At 10.42;Rm 2.16;14.10,12;Ef 6.8tribunal de Cristo, para que cada um receba o que fez por meio do corpo, conforme o que praticou, o bem ou o mal.

O temor e o amor do Senhor

11 Portanto, conhecendo o *Hb 10.31;12.29;Jd 23temor do Senhor, persuadimos aos homens, mas a Deus somos manifestos; e espero também que o *2Co 4.2sejamos nas vossas consciências. 12 Não *2Co 3.1nos recomendamos de novo a vós, porém vos damos *2Co 1.14;Fp 1.26ocasião de vos gloriardes por nossa causa, para que tenhais que responder aos que exultam na aparência e não no coração. 13 *2Co 11.1,16ss.;12.11; cp.Mc 3.21Se enlouquecemos, é para Deus; se conservamos o juízo, é para vós. 14 Pois o amor de Cristo *cp.At 18.5nos constrange, porque julgamos assim: *Rm 5.15;6.6ss.;Gl 2.20;Cl 3.3um morreu por todos; portanto, todos morreram. 15 Ele morreu por todos, para que os que vivem *Rm 14.7-9não vivam mais para si, mas para aquele que por eles morreu e foi ressuscitado. 16 Por isso, nós, daqui em diante, não conhecemos a ninguém *2Co 11.18;Fp 3.4;Jo 8.15segundo a carne; ainda que temos conhecido a Cristo segundo a carne, agora, contudo, não o conhecemos mais desse modo. 17 Se alguém está *Rm 16.7em Cristo, é uma *Gl 6.15;Jo 3.3;Rm 6.4nova criação; *cp.Is 43.18s.;65.17;Ef 4.24;Ap 21.4s.passou o que era velho; eis que se fez novo. 18 Mas *1Co 11.12todas as coisas vêm de Deus, *Cl 1.20;Rm 5.10que nos reconciliou consigo mesmo por meio de Cristo e nos deu *cp.1Co 3.5o ministério da reconciliação, 19 a saber, que *cp.Cl 2.9Deus, em Cristo, estava reconciliando o mundo consigo, *Rm 4.8; cp.1Co 13.5não lhes imputando as suas transgressões e tendo confiado a nós a palavra da reconciliação.

O ministério da reconciliação. As credenciais apostólicas

1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: 3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. 4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. 5 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. 6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences. 12 For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart. 13 For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause. 14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: 15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. 16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
