O profeta Jeú repreende a Josafá

1 Josafá, rei de Judá, voltou em paz para sua casa, em Jerusalém. 2 *2Cr 20.34;1Rs 16.1Jeú, filho de Hanani, o vidente, saiu-lhe ao encontro e disse ao rei Josafá: *2Cr 18.1,3Deves tu socorrer aos iníquos e amar os que aborrecem a Jeová? *2Cr 24.18Por isso, veio sobre ti grande ira da parte de Jeová. 3 Contudo, *2Cr 12.12em ti se acharam boas coisas, porque *2Cr 17.6tiraste para fora da terra as Aserotes, e *2Cr 12.14dispuseste o teu coração a buscar a Deus.

4 Habitou Josafá em Jerusalém; tornou a passar pelo povo desde Berseba até a região montanhosa de Efraim e *2Cr 15.8-13fez que ele tornasse a Jeová, Deus de seus pais. 5 Estabeleceu *Dt 16.18-20juízes em todas as cidades fortificadas de Judá, de cidade em cidade. 6 Disse aos juízes: Vede o que fazeis, pois *Lv 19.15;Dt 1.17não julgais da parte do homem, mas da parte de Jeová. Em julgardes, ele está convosco. 7 Agora, seja o temor de Jeová sobre vós; tomai cuidado e fazei-o, *Gn 18.25;Dt 32.4porque não há, em Jeová, nosso Deus, iniquidade, *Dt 10.17-18nem acepção de pessoas, nem aceitação de dádivas.

Nomeação de juízes

8 Também estabeleceu Josafá, em Jerusalém, alguns *2Cr 17.8-9dos levitas, e dos sacerdotes, e dos cabeças das famílias de Israel, para julgarem da parte de Jeová e para decidirem as controvérsias. E voltaram para Jerusalém. 9 Ordenou-lhes, dizendo: Assim procedereis no temor de Jeová, com fidelidade e com um coração perfeito. 10 *Dt 17.8Todas as vezes que vos submeterem alguma controvérsia de vossos irmãos que habitam nas cidades, entre sangue e sangue, entre lei e mandamento, estatutos e juízos, admoestá-los-eis, para que não sejam culpados para com Jeová, e *2Cr 19.2deste modo venha a ira sobre vós e sobre vossos irmãos. Fazei isso e não sereis culpados. 11 Eis que o sumo sacerdote Amarias está sobre vós *2Cr 19.8em todos os negócios de Jeová; e Zebadias, filho de Ismael, príncipe da casa de Judá, em todos os negócios do rei. Também os levitas serão oficiais diante de vós. *1Cr 28.20Procedei corajosamente, e seja Jeová com os bons.

1 And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem. 2 And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the LORD? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the LORD. 3 Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek God. 4 And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again through the people from Beer-sheba to mount Ephraim, and brought them back unto the LORD God of their fathers.*19.4 he went…: Heb. he returned and went out

5 And he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Judah, city by city, 6 And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the LORD, who is with you in the judgment.*19.6 in…: Heb. in the matter of judgment 7 Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

8 Moreover in Jerusalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites, and of the priests, and of the chief of the fathers of Israel, for the judgment of the LORD, and for controversies, when they returned to Jerusalem. 9 And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the LORD, faithfully, and with a perfect heart. 10 And what cause soever shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and judgments, ye shall even warn them that they trespass not against the LORD, and so wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not trespass. 11 And, behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the LORD; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king’s matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you.
