Pedro e João presos

1 Enquanto Pedro e João falavam ao povo, *Lc 20.1;At 6.12sobrevieram-lhes *Lc 22.4os sacerdotes, o capitão do templo e *Mt 3.7os saduceus, 2 enfadados por ensinarem eles o povo e anunciarem *cp.At 17.18;3.15em Jesus a ressurreição dentre os mortos; 3 deitaram mão neles e *At 5.18os detiveram até o dia seguinte, pois já tinha chegado a tarde. 4 Muitos, porém, dos que ouviram a palavra creram; e elevou-se *cp.At 2.41o número dos homens a quase cinco mil.

Pedro e João perante o Sinédrio

5 No dia seguinte, reuniram-se em Jerusalém as *Lc 23.13;At 4.8autoridades, os anciãos, os escribas, 6 *Lc 3.2Anás, que era o sumo sacerdote, *Mt 26.3Caifás, João, Alexandre e todos os que eram da linhagem do sumo sacerdote; 7 e, pondo-os no meio deles, perguntavam: Com que poder ou em que nome fizestes vós isso? 8 Então, Pedro, *At 13.9; vd.2.4cheio do Espírito Santo, lhes disse: *Lc 23.13;At 4.5Autoridades do povo e anciãos, 9 se nós hoje somos inquiridos sobre *At 3.7s.o benefício feito a um enfermo, como foi ele curado, 10 seja notório a todos vós e a todo o povo de Israel que em *At 3.6; cp.2.22o nome de Jesus Cristo, o Nazareno, a quem vós crucificastes e a quem *At 2.24Deus ressuscitou dentre os mortos, nesse nome está este enfermo aqui são diante de vós. 11 *Mt 21.42;Sl 118.22Ele é a pedra *Mc 9.12desprezada por vós, edificadores, a qual foi posta como a pedra angular. 12 *cp.1Tm 2.5;Mt 1.21;At 10.43Não há salvação em nenhum outro; porque abaixo do céu não há outro nome dado entre os homens, em que devamos ser salvos.

13 Ao verem *At 4.31a intrepidez de *Lc 22.8;At 4.19Pedro e João e tendo notado que eram iletrados e indoutos, maravilhavam-se; *cp.Jo 7.15e reconheciam que haviam eles estado com Jesus; 14 e, vendo com eles o homem que fora curado, nada tinham que dizer em contrário. 15 Mandaram-nos sair do *Mt 5.22Sinédrio e consultavam entre si, 16 dizendo: *cp.Jo 11.47Que faremos a estes homens? Pois, na verdade, é manifesto a todos os que habitam em Jerusalém que um *At 3.7-10milagre notório foi por eles feito, e não o podemos negar; 17 mas, para que não se divulgue mais entre o povo, ameacemo-los que, de ora em diante, não falem *cp.Jo 15.21nesse nome a homem algum. 18 Chamando-os, *cp.At 5.28s.ordenaram-lhes que absolutamente não falassem, nem ensinassem em o nome de Jesus. 19 Mas *At 4.13Pedro e João responderam-lhes: Se é justo diante de Deus ouvir-vos a vós antes do que a Deus, julgai-o vós, 20 pois *cp.1Co 9.16nós não podemos deixar de falar das coisas que vimos e ouvimos. 21 Depois de os ameaçarem ainda mais, soltaram-nos, não achando motivo para os castigar *At 5.26por causa do povo, porque todos *Mt 9.8glorificavam a Deus pelo que acontecera. 22 Ora, tinha mais de quarenta anos o homem em que se operara essa cura milagrosa.

A igreja em oração

23 Depois de soltos, foram aos seus e relataram tudo quanto lhes haviam dito os principais sacerdotes e os anciãos. 24 Eles, ouvindo isso, levantaram unanimemente a voz a Deus e disseram: Senhor, tu que fizeste o céu, a terra, o mar e tudo o que neles há; 25 tu que, *cp.At 1.16;Sl 2.1-2pelo Espírito Santo, por boca de nosso pai Davi, teu servo, disseste:

Por que se enfureceram os gentios,

e os povos imaginaram coisas vãs?

26 Levantaram-se os reis da terra,

e as autoridades ajuntaram-se à uma

contra o Senhor e contra o seu *cp.Dn 9.24s.;Lc 4.18;At 10.38;Hb 1.9Ungido;

27 pois verdadeiramente se ajuntaram nesta cidade contra o teu Santo *At 4.30;At 3.13Servo Jesus, ao qual ungiste, não só *Mt 14.1Herodes, mas também *Lc 23.12;Mt 27.2Pôncio Pilatos, com *Mt 20.19os gentios e com o povo de Israel, 28 para fazerem tudo o que a tua mão e o *At 2.23teu conselho predeterminaram que se fizesse. 29 Agora, Senhor, olha para as suas ameaças e concede aos teus servos que, com *Fp 1.14toda a liberdade, *At 4.13,31; cp.At 14.3falem a tua palavra, 30 enquanto tu estendes a mão para curar e para que se façam *Jo 4.48milagres e prodígios pelo nome de teu Santo Servo Jesus. 31 Tendo eles orado, *cp.At 2.1tremeu o lugar onde estavam reunidos; todos ficaram *At 2.4cheios do Espírito Santo e falavam com liberdade a palavra de Deus.

A comunidade cristã

32 Da comunidade dos que creram o coração era um, e a alma, uma, e nenhum deles dizia que coisa alguma das que possuía era sua própria, mas tudo *At 2.44entre eles era comum. 33 Com *At 1.8grande poder, os apóstolos davam o seu *cp.Lc 24.48testemunho da ressurreição do Senhor Jesus, e em todos eles havia abundante graça. 34 Pois nenhum necessitado havia entre eles, porque todos os que possuíam terras ou casas, *cp.Mt 19.21;At 2.45vendendo-as, traziam o preço do que vendiam 35 *At 4.37;At 5.2e depositavam-no aos pés dos apóstolos; *cp.At 6.1;2.45e repartia-se a cada um conforme a sua necessidade.

A oferta de Barnabé

36 José, a quem os apóstolos deram o sobrenome de *At 9.27;11.22,30;12.25; 13—15;1Co 9.6;Gl 2.1,9,13;Cl 4.10Barnabé (que quer dizer filho de *At 13.15;1Co 14.3;1Ts 2.3; cp.At 2.40;11.23exortação*ou, consolação.), levita, natural de *cp.At 11.19s.;13.4;15.39;21.3,16;27.4Chipre, 37 como tivesse um campo, vendeu-o, trouxe o preço e *At 4.35;At 5.2depositou-o aos pés dos apóstolos.

1 And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them, 2 Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. 3 And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide. 4 Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.

5 And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes, 6 And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. 7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this? 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, 9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; 10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. 14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. 15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, 16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. 17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. 18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. 20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. 21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done. 22 For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed.

23 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them. 24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is: 25 Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things? 26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ. 27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, 28 For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done. 29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, 30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. 32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. 33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. 34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, 35 And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need. 36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, 37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
