Atos 8

1 *At 7.58;22.20; cp.26.10Saulo consentia na sua morte.

A primeira perseguição da igreja

Naquele dia, levantou-se uma grande perseguição contra *At 9.31a igreja em Jerusalém; e todos, exceto os apóstolos, foram *At 8.4;At 11.19dispersos pelas regiões da Judeia e *At 1.8;At 8.5,14; cp.9.31Samaria. 2 Homens piedosos sepultaram a Estêvão e fizeram grande pranto sobre ele. 3 Mas *At 9.1,13,21;22.4,19;26.10s.;1Co 15.9;Gl 1.13;Fp 3.6;1Tm 1.13Saulo assolava a igreja, entrando pelas casas; e, *cp.Tg 2.6arrastando homens e mulheres, os entregava à prisão.

Filipe prega em Samaria

4 Os que, porém, haviam sido *At 8.1dispersos iam por toda parte *At 8.12;At 15.35pregando a palavra. 5 *At 6.5;At 8.26,30, etc.Filipe, descendo à cidade de Samaria, proclamava-lhes Cristo. 6 A multidão, unânime, estava atenta às coisas que Filipe lhe dizia, ouvindo-o e vendo os milagres que estava fazendo. 7 *cp.Mc 16.17Pois os espíritos imundos de muitos possessos saíam, clamando em alta voz; e muitos *Mt 4.24paralíticos e coxos foram curados. 8 E houve *At 8.39; cp.Jo 4.40-42muito regozijo naquela cidade.

Simão, o mago

9 Havia ali, desde algum tempo, um homem chamado Simão, que praticara a *At 8.11;At 13.6mágica e fizera pasmar o povo de Samaria, *At 5.36dizendo ser ele um grande homem; 10 e a ele atendiam todos, desde os pequenos até os grandes, dizendo: *cp.At 14.11;28.6Este homem é o poder de Deus, que se chama Grande. 11 Eles o atendiam, porque, com as *At 8.9;At 13.6suas mágicas, por muito tempo, os tinha feito pasmar. 12 Mas, quando creram em Filipe, que lhes *At 8.4; cp.At 1.3pregava acerca do reino de Deus e do nome de Jesus Cristo, *At 2.38faziam-se batizar homens e mulheres. 13 O mesmo Simão também creu, e, depois de batizado, estava continuamente com Filipe, e admirava-se, vendo *At 8.6os milagres e *cp.At 19.11grandes prodígios que se faziam.

Pedro e João em Samaria

14 *At 8.1Os apóstolos que se achavam em Jerusalém, tendo ouvido que a Samaria recebera a palavra de Deus, enviaram-lhe a *Lc 22.8Pedro e a João; 15 os quais foram para lá e oraram por eles, *At 2.38; cp.19.2para que recebessem o Espírito Santo; 16 porque sobre nenhum deles havia ainda ele descido, mas somente tinham sido *Mt 28.19batizados em nome do Senhor Jesus. 17 Então, *At 6.6;Mc 5.23sendo-lhes impostas as mãos de Pedro e João, *cp.At 2.4recebiam o Espírito Santo. 18 Quando Simão viu que, pela imposição das mãos dos apóstolos, se dava o Espírito, ofereceu-lhes dinheiro, 19 dizendo: Dai-me também este poder, que aquele sobre quem eu impuser as mãos receba o Espírito Santo. 20 Mas Pedro disse-lhe: Pereça contigo o teu dinheiro, pois julgaste *At 2.38; cp.Mt 10.8;Is 55.1;2Rs 5.16;Dn 5.17adquirir por meio dele o dom de Deus. 21 Tu não tens *Dt 10.9;12.12, etc.; cp.Ef 5.5parte, nem sorte neste ministério; porque o teu coração não é *Sl 78.37reto diante de Deus. 22 Arrepende-te, portanto, dessa tua maldade e roga ao Senhor que, se é possível, te seja perdoado esse pensamento do teu coração; 23 pois vejo que estás em um fel de amargura e nos *Is 58.6laços de iniquidade. 24 Disse Simão: Rogai vós ao Senhor por mim, para que nada do que haveis dito venha sobre mim.

25 Eles, pois, havendo *Lc 16.28testificado e falado *At 13.12a palavra do Senhor, voltaram para Jerusalém *At 8.40e evangelizavam muitas aldeias dos *cp.Mt 10.5samaritanos.

Filipe e o eunuco

26 Um *At 5.19; cp.At 8.29anjo do Senhor falou *At 8.5a Filipe, dizendo: Levanta-te e vai em direção do Sul, ao caminho que desce de Jerusalém a *cp.Gn 10.19, etc.Gaza; este se acha deserto. Ele, levantando-se, partiu. 27 Eis que *Sl 68.31;87.4;Is 56.3ss.um homem da Etiópia, eunuco, alto funcionário de Candace, rainha dos etíopes, o qual era superintendente de todos os seus tesouros, *cp.1Rs 8.41s.;Jo 12.20viera a Jerusalém fazer a sua adoração; 28 regressava e, sentado no seu carro, lia o profeta Isaías. 29 Disse *At 10.19;11.12;13.2;20.23;21.11; cp.16.6-7;28.25;Hb 3.7;At 8.39o Espírito a Filipe: Aproxima-te e ajunta-te a este carro. 30 Correndo Filipe, ouviu-o ler o profeta Isaías, e perguntou: Entendes, porventura, o que estás lendo? 31 Ele respondeu: Pois como poderei entender, se alguém não mo explicar? Pediu a Filipe que subisse e se assentasse com ele. 32 A passagem da Escritura que estava lendo era esta:

*Is 53.7s.Como ovelha, foi levado ao matadouro;

e, como um cordeiro, está mudo diante do que o tosquia

Assim, ele não abre a sua boca.

33 Na sua humilhação, foi tirado o seu julgamento.

Quem contará a sua geração?

Porque a sua vida é tirada da terra.

34 Perguntou o eunuco a Filipe: Peço-te que me digas de quem falou isso o profeta? De si mesmo ou de algum outro? 35 Filipe *Mt 5.2abriu a boca e, *Lc 24.27; cp.At 17.2;18.28;28.23principiando por esta Escritura, *At 5.42anunciou-lhe a Jesus. 36 Indo eles pelo caminho, chegaram a um lugar onde havia água, e disse o eunuco: Eis aqui água; *At 10.47que impede que seja eu batizado?*Alguns manuscritos inserem o v. 37: E disse Filipe: É lícito, se crês de todo o coração. E, respondendo ele, disse: Creio que Jesus é o Filho de Deus.37 [E disse Filipe: É lícito, se crês de todo o coração. E, respondendo ele, disse: Creio que Jesus é o Filho de Deus.] 38 Mandou parar o carro, e desceram ambos à água, Filipe e o eunuco, e Filipe batizou-o. 39 Quando subiram da água, *1Rs 18.12;2Rs 2.16;Ez 3.12,14;8.3;11.1-24;43.5; cp.2Co 12.2o Espírito do Senhor arrebatou a Filipe; o eunuco não o viu mais, pois seguia o seu caminho, regozijando-se. 40 Mas Filipe achou-se em *cp.Js 11.22;1Sm 5.1, etc.Azoto e, passando além, *At 8.25evangelizava todas as cidades, até que chegou a *At 9.30;10.1-24;11.11;12.19;18.22;21.8,16;23.23,33;25.1,4,6,13Cesareia.

1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judæa and Samaria, except the apostles. 2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. 3 As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison. 4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word. 5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. 6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. 7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. 8 And there was great joy in that city. 9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: 10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. 11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries. 12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. 14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: 15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: 16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) 17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. 18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, 19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. 20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. 21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. 22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. 23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity. 24 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me. 25 And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans. 26 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. 27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, 28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. 29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. 30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? 31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. 32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: 33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth. 34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. 36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? 37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. 38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. 39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. 40 But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Cæsarea.
