Daniel 2

O rei esquece o sonho que teve

1 No *Dn 1.1segundo ano do reinado de Nabucodonosor, teve Nabucodonosor *Dn 2.3;Dn 4.5;Gn 40.5-8;41.1;Jó 33.15-17sonhos; e o seu espírito ficou perturbado, *Dn 6.18;Et 6.1e passou-se-lhe o sono. 2 Então, o rei mandou chamar os *Dn 2.10,27;Dn 1.20;4.6;5.7;Gn 41.8;Is 47.12-13mágicos, e os encantadores, e os feiticeiros, e os caldeus, para que declarassem ao rei os sonhos. Assim, vieram e se apresentaram diante do rei. 3 O rei disse-lhes: *Dn 4.5;Gn 40.8;41.15Tive um sonho, e para saber o sonho está perturbado o meu espírito. 4 Os caldeus disseram ao rei em *Ed 4.7;Is 36.11aramaico: *Dn 3.9;5.10Ó rei, vive eternamente; *Dn 2.7;Dn 4.7dize aos teus servos o sonho, e mostraremos a interpretação. 5 Respondeu o rei aos caldeus: A coisa já me fugiu da memória; se não me fizerdes saber o sonho e a sua interpretação, sereis *Dn 2.12;Dn 3.29;Ed 6.11despedaçados, e as vossas casas serão feitas um monturo. 6 Mas, se mostrardes o sonho e a sua interpretação, recebereis de mim *Dn 2.48;Dn 5.7,16,29dádivas, e prêmios, e grande honra; portanto, mostrai-me o sonho e a sua interpretação. 7 Responderam pela segunda vez: *Dn 2.4Diga o rei aos seus servos o sonho, e lhe mostraremos a interpretação. 8 Respondeu o rei: Certamente, eu sei que quereis ganhar tempo, porque vedes que a coisa já me fugiu da memória. 9 Mas, se não me fizerdes saber o sonho, não há para vós senão *Dn 3.15;Et 4.11uma só lei; pois tendes preparado palavras mentirosas e corruptas para as proferir na minha presença, até que se mude o tempo. Portanto, dizei-me o sonho, *Is 41.23e saberei se me podeis mostrar a sua interpretação. 10 Responderam os caldeus na presença do rei: *Dn 2.27Não há homem sobre a terra que possa mostrar a questão do rei; porquanto nenhum rei, nem senhor, nem régulo tem feito semelhante pedido a qualquer *Dn 2.2,27mágico, ou encantador, ou caldeu. 11 É coisa rara a que o rei exige, e não há outro que a possa mostrar na presença do rei, senão os *Dn 5.11;Gn 41.39deuses, cuja *Êx 29.45;Is 57.15morada não é com a carne. 12 Por essa razão, ficou o rei *Dn 2.5;Dn 3.13,19;Sl 76.10irado e em extremo furioso e ordenou que perecessem todos os sábios de Babilônia. 13 Assim, saiu o decreto, e os sábios estavam para serem mortos; e buscaram *Dn 1.19-20a Daniel e seus companheiros, para que fossem mortos.

Daniel pede ao rei um prazo e tem uma visão

14 Então, Daniel respondeu avisada e prudentemente a *Dn 2.24Arioque, *Gn 37.36;Jr 39.9;52.12,14capitão da guarda do rei, que tinha saído para matar os sábios de Babilônia; 15 sim, respondeu e perguntou a Arioque, capitão do rei: Por que razão é o decreto tão *Dn 3.22urgente da parte do rei? Então, Arioque fez *Dn 2.1-12saber a coisa a Daniel. 16 *Dn 1.19Entrando Daniel, pediu ao rei que lhe designasse o tempo e que ele mostraria ao rei a interpretação.

17 Então, Daniel foi para casa e fez saber a coisa a *Dn 1.6Hananias, Misael e Azarias, seus companheiros, 18 para que *Dn 2.23;Et 4.15-16;Is 37.4;Jr 33.3;Ez 36.37pedissem *Dn 9.9misericórdia ao Deus do céu no tocante a esse segredo, a fim de que Daniel e seus companheiros *Gn 18.28;Ml 3.18não perecessem juntamente com o resto dos sábios de Babilônia. 19 Então, foi *Dn 2.22,27-29;Dn 4.9o segredo revelado a Daniel numa *Dn 1.17;7.2,7,13;Nm 12.6;Jó 33.15-16visão noturna. Depois, Daniel bendisse ao Deus do céu. 20 Disse Daniel: *Sl 103.1-2;113.1-2Bendito seja o nome de Deus para todo o sempre, pois dele são *Dn 2.21-23;1Cr 29.11-12;Jó 12.13,16-22a sabedoria e a força. 21 Ele *Dn 2.9;Dn 7.25;Sl 31.15muda os tempos e as estações; *Dn 4.17,32;Jó 12.18;Sl 75.6-7remove os reis e estabelece os reis; dá *2Rs 3.9-10;4.29;Tg 1.5sabedoria aos sábios e conhecimento aos que sabem discernir; 22 *Dn 2.19,28;Jó 12.22revela as coisas profundas e escondidas; *Jó 26.6;Sl 139.12;Is 45.7;Jr 23.24sabe o que está nas trevas, e com ele *Dn 5.11,14;Sl 36.9;1Jo 1.5mora a luz. 23 A ti, *Gn 31.42;Êx 3.15Deus de meus pais, eu te dou graças e te louvo, que me deste *Dn 2.21;Dn 1.17sabedoria e força e, agora, me fizeste saber o que *Dn 2.18,29-30;Sl 21.2,4te havíamos pedido; porque nos revelaste a questão do rei. 24 Por isso, entrou Daniel a *Dn 2.14Arioque, a quem o rei tinha constituído para perder os sábios de Babilônia; entrou e disse-lhe assim: *Dn 2.12-13;At 27.24Não percas os sábios de Babilônia; leva-me à presença do rei, e mostrarei ao rei a interpretação.

Daniel traz à memória do rei o sonho que este tivera

25 Então, Arioque, depressa, *Gn 41.14levou Daniel à presença do rei e lhe disse assim: Achei um homem dentre *Dn 1.6;5.13;6.13os filhos do cativeiro de Judá que fará saber ao rei a interpretação. 26 Respondeu o rei e disse a Daniel, cujo nome era *Dn 1.7;4.8;5.12Beltessazar: Podes fazer-me saber *Dn 2.3-7;4.18o sonho que vi e a sua interpretação? 27 Respondeu Daniel perante o rei e disse: O segredo que o rei tem exigido, não o podem mostrar ao rei *Dn 2.2,10-11;Dn 5.7-8nem sábios, nem encantadores, nem mágicos, nem feiticeiros; 28 mas há no céu *Dn 2.22,45;Gn 40.8;41.16um Deus que revela segredos, e ele tem feito saber ao rei Nabucodonosor o que há de acontecer nos *Dn 10.14;Gn 49.1;Is 2.2;Mq 4.1últimos dias. O teu sonho *Dn 4.5e as visões da tua cabeça na tua cama são estes: 29 Quanto a ti, ó rei, estando tu na cama, entraram os teus pensamentos na mente, sobre o que havia de acontecer no futuro; e aquele *Dn 2.22,47que revela segredos te descobriu o que há de acontecer. 30 Mas, quanto a mim, não me foi revelado esse segredo *Dn 1.17;Gn 41.16por ter eu mais sabedoria que qualquer outro vivente, mas para *Is 45.3que ficasse manifesta ao rei a interpretação e para que soubesses os *Sl 139.2;Am 4.13pensamentos do teu coração.

31 Tu, ó rei, estavas olhando, e eis uma grande imagem. Essa imagem, que era enorme e cujo resplendor era excelente, tinha-se em pé diante de ti; e a sua vista era *Dn 7.7;Is 25.3-5;Hc 1.7espantosa. 32 Quanto a essa imagem, a sua *Dn 2.38;Dn 4.22,30cabeça era de ouro fino, o seu *Dn 2.39peito e os seus braços, de prata, o seu ventre e as suas coxas, de cobre, 33 as suas *Dn 2.40pernas, de ferro, *Dn 2.41-43os seus pés, em parte de ferro, em parte de barro. 34 Estavas vendo até que uma *Dn 2.44-45pedra foi cortada *Dn 8.25;Zc 4.6sem auxílio de mãos, a qual feriu a imagem nos seus pés, que eram de ferro e de barro, *Sl 2.9;Is 60.12e os fez em pedaços. 35 Então, foi juntamente feito em pedaços o ferro, o barro, o cobre, a prata e o ouro e se tornaram como *Sl 1.4;Is 17.13;41.15-16;Os 13.3a pragana das eiras de estio; e o vento levou-os, de sorte *Sl 37.10,36que não se achou lugar para eles. A pedra que feriu a imagem tornou-se *Is 2.2;Mq 4.1uma grande montanha, que encheu a terra toda.

Daniel interpreta o sonho

36 Este é o sonho; e diremos a sua *Dn 2.24interpretação na presença do rei. 37 Tu, ó rei, és *Is 47.5;Jr 27.6-7;Ez 26.7rei de reis, ao qual *Dn 4.25,32o Deus do céu deu o reino, *Sl 62.11o poder, a força e a glória; 38 e, onde quer que habitem os filhos dos homens, nas tuas mãos entregou *Dn 4.21-22;Sl 50.10-11os animais do campo e as aves do céu e te fez reinar sobre todos eles; tu és *Dn 2.32a cabeça de ouro. 39 Depois de ti, se levantará *Dn 2.32outro reino inferior a ti; e outro terceiro, de cobre, o qual dominará sobre a terra toda. 40 *Dn 2.33O quarto reino será forte como ferro, porquanto o ferro faz em pedaços e subjuga todas as coisas; como o ferro esmiúça todas essas coisas, assim ele fará em pedaços e esmiuçará. 41 Porque viste *Dn 2.33os pés e os dedos, em parte de barro de oleiro e em parte de ferro, será ele um reino dividido; mas nele haverá alguma coisa da firmeza do ferro, porquanto viste o ferro misturado com o barro de lodo. 42 Como os dedos dos pés eram em parte de ferro e em parte de barro, assim o reino será em parte firme e em parte frágil. 43 Porque viste o ferro misturado com o barro de lodo, misturar-se-ão com a semente de homens; porém não se apegarão um a outro, assim como o ferro não se une com o barro. 44 Nos dias desses reis, *Is 9.6-7suscitará o *Dn 2.28,37Deus do céu um *Dn 4.3,34;6.26;7.14,27;Sl 145.13;Ez 37.25;Mq 4.7reino que não será jamais destruído, nem passará a soberania deste a outro povo; *Dn 2.34-35;Sl 2.9;Is 60.12mas fará em pedaços e consumirá todos esses reinos, e ele mesmo subsistirá para sempre, 45 porquanto viste que do monte foi cortada uma *Dn 2.34-35pedra *Dn 8.25sem auxílio de mãos e que ela fez em pedaços o ferro, o cobre, o barro, a prata e o ouro; *Dn 2.29;Dt 10.17;2Sm 7.22;Sl 48.1;Jr 32.18-19;Ml 1.11o Grande Deus fez saber ao rei o que *Gn 41.28,32há de acontecer no futuro. Certo é o sonho, e fiel, a sua interpretação.

Daniel é promovido pelo rei

46 Então, o rei Nabucodonosor *Dn 8.17caiu sobre o rosto, e *Dn 3.5,7;At 10.25;14.13;Ap 19.10;22.8adorou a Daniel, e ordenou que lhe oferecessem uma oblação e *Lv 26.31perfumes suaves. 47 Disse o rei a Daniel: Na verdade, *Dn 3.15;4.25o vosso Deus é *Dn 11.36;Dt 10.17;Sl 136.2-3o Deus dos deuses e o Senhor dos reis *Dn 2.22,30;Am 3.7e que revela segredos, pois que pudeste revelar este segredo. 48 Então, o rei *Dn 2.6;Dn 5.16,29;Gn 41.39-43engrandeceu a Daniel, e lhe deu muitos grandes dons, e fê-lo reinar sobre *Dn 3.1,12,30a província toda de Babilônia e ser *Dn 5.11o principal governador sobre todos os *Dn 2.27sábios de Babilônia. 49 Fez Daniel uma petição ao rei, e este *Dn 3.12constituiu superintendentes dos negócios da província de Babilônia *Dn 1.7a Sadraque, Mesaque e Abede-Nego; Daniel, porém, estava *Et 2.19,21;Am 5.15na porta do rei.

1 And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, wherewith his spirit was troubled, and his sleep brake from him. 2 Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king. 3 And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to know the dream. 4 Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.*2.4 O king…: (Chaldee, to the end of chapter seven) 5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.*2.5 cut…: Chaldee, made pieces 6 But if ye shew the dream, and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour: therefore shew me the dream, and the interpretation thereof.*2.6 rewards: or, fee 7 They answered again and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation of it. 8 The king answered and said, I know of certainty that ye would gain the time, because ye see the thing is gone from me.*2.8 gain: Chaldee, buy 9 But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can shew me the interpretation thereof.

10 The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king’s matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean. 11 And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh. 12 For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon. 13 And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.

14 Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king’s guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:*2.14 answered…: Chaldee, returned*2.14 captain…: or, chief marshal: Chaldee, chief of the executioners, or, slaughtermen 15 He answered and said to Arioch the king’s captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel. 16 Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation. 17 Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions: 18 That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.*2.18 of the God: Chaldee, from before God*2.18 that Daniel…: or, that they should not destroy Daniel, etc

19 Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. 20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: 21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: 22 He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him. 23 I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king’s matter.

24 Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men of Babylon: he went and said thus unto him; Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the interpretation. 25 Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation.*2.25 I have…: Chaldee, That I have found*2.25 captives…: Chaldee, children of the captivity of Judah 26 The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof? 27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king; 28 But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. 31 Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.*2.31 sawest: Chaldee, wast seeing 32 This image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass,*2.32 thighs: or, sides 33 His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay. 34 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.*2.34 without…: or, which was not in hands 35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

36 This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king. 37 Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. 38 And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold. 39 And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. 40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise. 41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.*2.42 broken: or, brittle 43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.*2.43 one…: Chaldee, this with this 44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.*2.44 the days: Chaldee, their days*2.44 the kingdom: Chaldee, the kingdom thereof 45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.*2.45 without…: or, which was not in hands*2.45 hereafter: Chaldee, after this

46 Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him. 47 The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret. 48 Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon. 49 Then Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.
