A estátua de ouro de Nabucodonosor

1 O rei Nabucodonosor fez uma *Dn 2.31;Is 46.6;Jr 16.20;Hc 2.19imagem de ouro que tinha sessenta cúbitos de alto e seis cúbitos de largo; levantou-a no campo de Dura, *Dn 3.30;Dn 2.48na província de Babilônia. 2 Então, o rei Nabucodonosor mandou ajuntar os *Dn 3.3,27;Dn 6.1-7sátrapas, os deputados, os governadores, os juízes, os tesoureiros, os conselheiros, os magistrados e todos os régulos das províncias, para que viessem à dedicação da imagem que o rei Nabucodonosor tinha levantado. 3 Os sátrapas, os deputados, os governadores, os juízes, os tesoureiros, os conselheiros, os magistrados e todos os régulos das províncias se ajuntaram para a dedicação da imagem que o rei Nabucodonosor tinha levantado; e estavam em pé diante da imagem que o rei Nabucodonosor tinha levantado. 4 Nisso, o pregoeiro clamou *Dn 4.14;Is 40.9;58.1;Ap 18.2em alta voz: A vós, *Dn 3.7;Dn 4.1;6.25ó povos, nações e línguas, se vos ordena 5 que, no ponto em que *Dn 3.7,10,15ouvirdes o som da corneta, da flauta, da harpa, da sacabuxa, do saltério, da sinfonia, e de toda sorte de música, *Dn 2.46vos prostrareis e adorareis a imagem de ouro que o rei Nabucodonosor levantou. 6 Todo aquele que não se prostrar e adorar será na mesma hora *Dn 3.11,15,21;Dn 6.7lançado no meio duma *Jr 29.22;Ez 22.18-22;Mt 13.42,50;Ap 9.2;14.11fornalha de fogo ardente. 7 Portanto, no momento em que todos os povos *Dn 3.5ouviram o som da corneta, da flauta, da harpa, da sacabuxa, do saltério e de toda sorte de música, se prostraram *Dn 3.4todos os povos, nações e línguas e adoraram a imagem de ouro que o rei Nabucodonosor tinha levantado.

8 Por isso, nesse tempo, se chegaram alguns homens *Dn 2.2,10;4.7caldeus e *Dn 6.12-13;Ed 4.12-16;Et 3.8-9acusaram aos judeus. 9 Disseram ao rei Nabucodonosor: *Dn 2.4;5.10Ó rei, vive eternamente. 10 Tu, ó rei, *Dn 3.4-6;Dn 6.12;Et 3.12-14fizeste um decreto que todo o homem que ouvir o som da corneta, da flauta, da harpa, da sacabuxa, do saltério, da sinfonia e de toda sorte de música *Dn 3.5,7,15se prostrasse e adorasse a imagem de ouro. 11 Todo aquele que não se prostrar a adorar seja lançado no meio duma fornalha de fogo ardente. 12 Há uns judeus, que *Dn 2.49constituíste sobre os negócios da província de Babilônia: *Dn 1.7Sadraque, Mesaque e Abede-Nego; esses homens, ó rei, *Dn 6.13não fizeram caso de ti; não servem aos teus deuses, nem adoram a imagem de ouro que levantaste.

Os amigos de Daniel são lançados na fornalha ardente

13 Então, Nabucodonosor, na *Dn 3.19;Dn 2.12sua raiva e fúria, mandou que fossem trazidos Sadraque, Mesaque e Abede-Nego. Logo, foram esses homens trazidos perante o rei. 14 Disse-lhes Nabucodonosor: É de propósito, Sadraque, Mesaque e Abede-Nego, que não servis aos *Dn 3.1;Dn 4.8;Is 46.1;Jr 50.2meus deuses, nem adorais a imagem que levantei? 15 Agora, pois, se estais prontos, no momento em que *Dn 3.5-6ouvirdes o som da corneta, da flauta, da harpa, da sacabuxa, do saltério, da sinfonia e de toda sorte de música, para vos prostrardes e adorardes a imagem que fiz, bem está; se, porém, não adorardes, sereis, na mesma hora, lançados *Dn 3.6numa fornalha de fogo ardente. *Dn 2.47;Êx 5.2;Is 36.18-20Quem é esse deus que vos livrará das minhas mãos? 16 Responderam ao rei *Dn 3.12;Dn 1.7Sadraque, Mesaque e Abede-Nego: Ó Nabucodonosor, não necessitamos de te responder nesse particular. 17 Se assim for, o nosso *Jó 5.19;Sl 27.1-2;Is 26.3-4;Jr 1.8;15.20-21Deus, a quem nós servimos, pode livrar-nos da fornalha de fogo ardente; e ele há de nos livrar das tuas mãos, ó rei. 18 *Dn 3.28;Js 24.15;1Rs 19.14,18;Is 51.12-13Mas, se não, fica tu sabendo, ó rei, que não havemos de servir aos teus deuses, nem adorar a imagem de ouro que levantaste.

19 Então, Nabucodonosor se encheu de *Dn 3.13;Et 7.7furor, e se mudou o aspecto *Dn 5.6do seu semblante contra *Dn 3.12;Dn 1.7Sadraque, Mesaque e Abede-Nego; portanto, falou e ordenou que se acendesse a fornalha *Lv 26.18,21,24,28sete vezes mais do que se costumava acender. 20 Deu ordem a uns valentes que estavam no seu exército que *Dn 3.23-25atassem a Sadraque, Mesaque e Abede-Nego *Dn 3.6e os lançassem na fornalha de fogo ardente. 21 Então, esses homens foram ligados, vestidos de seus *Dn 3.27calções, suas túnicas, suas capas e suas outras roupas e foram lançados no meio da fornalha de fogo ardente. 22 Visto que a ordem do rei era *Dn 2.15;Êx 12.33urgente e a fornalha estava sobremaneira acesa, as chamas do fogo mataram aqueles homens que carregaram a Sadraque, Mesaque e Abede-Nego. 23 Estes três homens, Sadraque, Mesaque e Abede-Nego, caíram *Dn 3.21ligados no meio da fornalha de fogo ardente.

O rei muda de pensar

24 O rei Nabucodonosor ficou *Dn 4.19espantado e levantou-se depressa; disse aos seus conselheiros: Não lançamos nós no meio do fogo três homens ligados? Responderam ao rei: Verdade é, ó rei. 25 Disse ele: Eis que eu vejo quatro homens soltos, *Sl 91.3-9;Is 43.2que andam no meio do fogo e não recebem dano; e o aspecto do quarto é semelhante a um filho *Jr 1.8,19;15.21;Ez 34.10dos deuses. 26 Então, chegando-se Nabucodonosor à porta da fornalha de fogo ardente, falou e disse: Sadraque, Mesaque e Abede-Nego, servos do *Dn 3.17;Dn 4.2Deus Altíssimo, saí e vinde. Logo, Sadraque, Mesaque e Abede-Nego *Dt 4.20;1Rs 8.51;Jr 11.4saíram do meio do fogo. 27 Os *Dn 3.2sátrapas, os deputados, os governadores e os conselheiros do rei, estando reunidos, viram estes homens, que *Is 43.2;Hb 11.34o fogo não teve poder sobre os seus corpos, nem foram chamuscados os cabelos da sua cabeça, nem sofreram mudança *Dn 3.21os seus calções, nem por eles tinha passado o cheiro de fogo.

28 Falou Nabucodonosor e disse: Bendito seja o *Dn 3.15;Dn 2.47Deus de Sadraque, Mesaque e Abede-Nego, que *Dn 3.25;Dn 6.22;Sl 34.7-8;Is 37.36;At 5.19;12.7enviou o seu Anjo e livrou os seus servos, que *Sl 22.4-5;Is 26.3-4confiaram nele, *Ed 6.11os quais violaram a palavra do rei *Dn 3.18e entregaram os seus corpos, para que *Dn 3.16-18não servissem, nem adorassem deus algum, senão o seu Deus. 29 Portanto, *Dn 6.26faço um decreto que todo povo, nação e língua que proferir alguma blasfêmia contra o Deus de *Dn 3.12;Dn 1.7,19;2.17,49Sadraque, Mesaque e Abede-Nego seja despedaçado, e as suas *Dn 2.5;Ed 6.11casas sejam feitas um monturo; *Dn 3.15;Dn 2.47porque não há outro deus que possa livrar desta maneira. 30 Então, o rei *Dn 3.12;Dn 2.49deu promoção a Sadraque, Mesaque e Abede-Nego na província de Babilônia.

1 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon. 2 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. 3 Then the princes, the governors, and captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together unto the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. 4 Then an herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages,*3.4 aloud: Chaldee, with might*3.4 it…: Chaldee, they command 5 That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up:*3.5 dulcimer: or, singing: Chaldee, symphony 6 And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. 7 Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of musick, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

8 Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews. 9 They spake and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for ever. 10 Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden image:*3.10 dulcimer: or, singing: Chaldee, symphony 11 And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. 12 There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.*3.12 have…: Chaldee, have set no regard upon thee

13 Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. Then they brought these men before the king. 14 Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?*3.14 true: or, of purpose 15 Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?*3.15 dulcimer: or, singing: Chaldee, symphony 16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. 17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. 18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

19 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.*3.19 full: Chaldee, filled 20 And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.*3.20 most…: Chaldee, mighty of strength 21 Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.*3.21 coats: or, mantles*3.21 hats: or, turbans 22 Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego.*3.22 commandment: Chaldee, word*3.22 flame: or, spark 23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. 24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.*3.24 counsellors: or, governors 25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.*3.25 they…: Chaldee, there is no hurt in them

26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, came forth of the midst of the fire.*3.26 mouth: Chaldee, door 27 And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.

28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God. 29 Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.*3.29 I make…: Chaldee, a decree is made by me*3.29 any…: Chaldee, error*3.29 cut…: Chaldee, made pieces 30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, in the province of Babylon.*3.30 promoted: Chaldee, made to prosper
