Exortação ao amor fraternal e à humildade, tendo em vós o sentimento que houve em Cristo

1 Se há, pois, alguma exortação em Cristo, se há alguma consolação de amor, se há alguma *2Co 13.13comunhão do Espírito, se há alguma *Cl 3.12misericórdia e compaixão, 2 *vd.Jo 3.29completai o meu gozo, de modo que *vd.Rm 12.16;Fp 4.2tenhais o mesmo sentimento, tendo o mesmo amor, acordes no mesmo espírito, cuidando numa só coisa; 3 nada fazendo *cp.Fp 1.17;Rm 2.8por porfia ou por *Gl 5.26vanglória, mas com humildade, considerando *vd.Rm 12.10; cp.Ef 5.21uns aos outros como superiores a si mesmos; 4 *cp.Rm 15.1s.não atendendo cada um para o que é seu, mas cada qual também para o que é dos outros. 5 *vd.Mt 11.29; cp.Rm 15.3Tende em vós este sentimento que houve também em *vd.Fp 1.1Cristo Jesus, 6 o qual, *Jo 1.1subsistindo em *cp.2Co 4.4forma de Deus, *cp.Jo 5.18;10.33;14.28não julgou que o ser igual a Deus fosse coisa de que não devesse abrir mão, 7 mas *2Co 8.9esvaziou-se, tomando a forma de *vd.Mt 20.28servo, *vd.Jo 1.14;Rm 8.3;Gl 4.4;Hb 2.17feito semelhante aos homens; 8 e, sendo reconhecido como homem, humilhou-se, tornando-se *Hb 5.8; cp.Mt 26.39;Jo 10.18;Rm 5.19obediente até a morte *Hb 12.2e morte de cruz. 9 *vd.Hb 1.9Por isso, também Deus o *vd.Mt 28.18;At 2.33;Hb 2.9exaltou soberanamente e lhe deu *vd.Ef 1.21o nome que é sobre todo o nome, 10 para que em o nome de Jesus *Rm 14.11se dobre todo joelho *vd.Ef 1.10dos que estão nos céus, na terra e debaixo da terra, 11 e toda língua confesse que Jesus Cristo é o *vd.Jo 13.13;Rm 10.9;14.9Senhor para glória de Deus Pai.

Efetuai a vossa salvação com temor e tremor

12 Assim, pois, meus amados, *cp.Fp 1.5;4.15do modo como sempre obedecestes, efetuai a vossa *Hb 5.9salvação com o *vd.2Co 7.15temor e tremor, não tão somente como na minha presença, mas muito mais agora na minha ausência; 13 pois é *1Co 12.6;15.10; cp.Rm 12.3;Hb 13.21Deus o que opera eficazmente em vós tanto o querer como o perfazer, *vd.Ef 1.5segundo a sua boa vontade. 14 Fazei tudo sem *cp.1Co 10.10;1Pe 4.9murmurar, nem questionar, 15 para que vos torneis *Lc 1.6;Fp 3.6irrepreensíveis e sinceros, *Mt 5.45;Ef 5.1filhos de Deus sem defeito no meio duma geração *vd.At 2.40má e perversa, no meio da qual *cp.Mt 24.27apareceis como *Gn 1.16astros no mundo, 16 expondo a palavra da vida, a fim de que, *vd.Fp 1.6no Dia de Cristo, eu tenha motivo para me gloriar de que não *vd.Gl 2.2corri em vão, nem *Gl 4.11;1Ts 3.5; cp.Is 49.4trabalhei em vão. 17 Contudo, ainda que eu seja *2Tm 4.6; cp.2Co 12.15derramado em libação sobre o *Rm 15.16; cp.Nm 28.6-7sacrifício e serviço da vossa fé, folgo e regozijo-me com todos vós; 18 e, pela mesma razão, folgai vós também e regozijai-vos comigo.

Paulo recomenda-lhes Timóteo e Epafrodito

19 Espero, porém, no Senhor Jesus *Fp 2.23enviar-vos brevemente *vd.Fp 1.1Timóteo, para que também eu esteja animado, conhecendo o vosso estado. 20 Nenhum outro tenho de *cp.1Co 16.10;2Tm 3.10igual sentimento, o qual sinceramente cuide dos vossos interesses; 21 pois todos eles *vd.1Co 10.24;13.5; cp.Fp 2.4buscam o que é seu, não o que é de Cristo Jesus. 22 Mas conheceis o seu caráter *Rm 5.4(Gr.)provado e que ele, *vd.1Co 4.17como filho ao pai, serviu comigo a favor do evangelho. 23 Espero, pois, enviá-lo logo que eu tenha visto o estado dos meus negócios; 24 porém, *cp.Fp 1.25confio no Senhor que também eu mesmo irei brevemente. 25 Julguei, contudo, necessário enviar-vos *Fp 4.18Epafrodito, meu irmão, e *cp.Rm 16.3,9,21;Fp 4.3;Fm 1,24, etc.cooperador, e *Fm 2companheiro nas lutas, mas vosso *2Co 8.23; cp.Jo 13.16enviado para *cp.Fp 4.18ministrar às minhas necessidades; 26 visto que ele tinha saudades de todos vós e estava angustiado por terdes sabido que ele estivera doente. 27 Pois, de fato, esteve doente e quase à morte, mas Deus compadeceu-se dele e não somente dele, mas também de mim, para que eu não tivesse tristeza sobre tristeza. 28 Por isso, vo-lo envio com mais urgência, para que, vendo-o, vos regozijeis novamente e para que eu tenha menos tristeza. 29 *Rm 16.2Recebei-o, então, no Senhor, com toda a alegria, *1Co 16.18e tende em honra a tais homens, 30 porque, *cp.At 20.24pela causa de Cristo, chegou às portas da morte, arriscando a sua vida, a fim de *vd.1Co 16.17; cp.Fp 4.10suprir o que vos faltava fazer no serviço para comigo.

1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, 2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. 14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings: 15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; 16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. 17 Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all. 18 For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me.

19 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state. 20 For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state. 21 For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s. 22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel. 23 Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me. 24 But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly. 25 Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants. 26 For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick. 27 For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. 28 I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful. 29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation: 30 Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
