Não é o Egito quem pode socorrer, mas o Senhor

1 Ai dos que descem ao *Is 30.2,5,7;36.6;Ez 17.15Egito em busca de socorro e se estribam em cavalos! *Is 2.7;30.16;Dt 17.16;Sl 20.7;33.17Ai dos que confiam em carros, por serem muitos, e em cavaleiros, por serem fortes; porém *Is 9.13;Dn 9.13;Am 5.4-8não olham para o *Is 10.17;43.15;Os 11.9;Hc 1.12;3.3Santo de Israel, nem buscam a Jeová! 2 Contudo, também ele é *Is 28.29;Rm 16.27sábio; *Is 45.7fará vir o mal, *Nm 23.19;Jr 44.29não deixará de cumprir as suas palavras, mas levantar-se-á contra a casa dos *Is 1.4;9.17;14.20malfeitores e contra o auxílio dos que *Is 22.14;32.6obram a iniquidade. 3 Ora, os egípcios são *Ez 28.9;2Ts 2.4homens e não Deus; *Is 36.9os seus cavaleiros são carne e não espírito. Quando Jeová *Is 9.17;Jr 15.6;Ez 20.33-34estender a mão, tanto tropeçará *Is 10.3;20.6;30.5,7;Jr 37.7-10;Mt 15.14quem dá o auxílio como cairá quem recebe o auxílio, e todos juntamente serão consumidos.

4 Pois assim me diz Jeová: Assim como ruge sobre a sua presa *Nm 24.9;Os 11.10;Am 3.8o leão, o cachorro do leão, contra o qual se convoca um tropel de pastores e não se espanta da vozeria deles, nem pelo seu alarido se abate, assim descerá Jeová dos Exércitos *Is 42.13;Zc 12.8para pelejar sobre o monte de Sião e sobre o seu outeiro. 5 Como *Dt 32.11;Sl 91.4aves quando adejam, assim Jeová dos Exércitos protegerá a Jerusalém, *Is 17.13;37.35;38.6;41.11-12protegendo e livrando, passando e pondo a salvo. 6 *Is 44.22;55.7;Jr 3.10,14,22;Ez 18.31-32Voltai-vos, filhos de Israel, para aquele contra quem vos tendes profundamente *Is 1.2,5rebelado. 7 Pois, naquele dia, *Is 2.20;30.22lançará fora cada um os seus ídolos de prata e os seus ídolos de ouro, que vos fabricaram as vossas mãos para pecardes. 8 Então, o *Is 10.12;14.25;30.31-33;37.7,36-38assírio cairá pela espada, não de homem; *Is 66.16e a espada, não de homem, o devorará; *Is 21.15fugirá diante da espada, e os seus mancebos *Is 14.2;Gn 49.15serão condenados a trabalhos forçados. 9 Devido ao terror, desaparecerá *Dt 32.31,37a sua rocha, e os seus príncipes se assombrarão do *Is 5.26;13.2;18.3estandarte, diz Jeová, cujo *Is 10.16-17;30.33;Zc 2.5;Ml 4.1fogo está em Sião, e cuja fornalha, em Jerusalém.

1 Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD! 2 Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity.*31.2 call…: Heb. remove 3 Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together. 4 For thus hath the LORD spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the LORD of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.*31.4 noise: or, multitude 5 As birds flying, so will the LORD of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it.

6 Turn ye unto him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted. 7 For in that day every man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made unto you for a sin.*31.7 his idols of gold: Heb. the idols of his gold
