Jó roga o favor de Deus por causa da brevidade e miséria da vida humana

é de poucos dias e cheio de inquietação.

como *Jó 8.9sombra foge e não permanece.

3 Sobre um tal *Sl 8.4;144.3abres os teus olhos?

A mim me fazes entrar em juízo contigo?

4 Oxalá que o *Jó 15.14;25.4puro pudesse sair do imundo? Não é possível!

5 Visto que os seus dias estão contados, o *Jó 21.21número dos seus meses, nas tuas mãos,

e lhe tens demarcado limites intransponíveis.

6 *Jó 7.19, ref.Aparta dele o teu rosto, para que descanse,

até que, qual jornaleiro, goze do seu dia.

7 A esperança para a árvore, sendo cortada, é que torne a brotar,

e que não cessem os seus renovos.

8 Ainda que a sua raiz envelheça na terra,

e o seu tronco morra no pó,

9 contudo, ao cheiro de água, brotará

e lançará ramos como uma planta.

que me ocultasses *Is 26.20até que a tua ira tenha passado,

que, após um tempo determinado, te lembrasses de mim!

14 Se o homem morrer, acaso, tornará a viver?

Todos os dias da minha milícia esperaria eu,

até que viesse a minha dispensa.

15 Tu chamarias, e eu te responderia;

serias afeiçoado *Jó 10.3, ref.à obra das tuas mãos.

16 Agora, porém, *Jó 31.4;34.21contas os meus passos;

porventura, *Jó 10.6não observas o meu pecado?

17 A minha transgressão *Dt 32.32-34está selada num saco;

e guardas fechada a minha iniquidade.

18 Mas o monte que se esboroa, desfaz-se,

e a penha se remove do seu lugar;

19 As águas gastam as pedras,

as suas inundações arrebatam o pó da terra.

Assim *Jó 7.6, ref.fazes perecer a esperança do homem.

20 Prevaleces para sempre contra ele, e *Jó 4.20;20.7ele passa;

mudas o seu rosto e o despedes.

21 Seus filhos recebem honras, e ele não o sabe;

são humilhados, mas ele nada percebe a respeito deles.

22 Somente para si mesmo sente dores a sua carne,

e para si mesmo lamenta a sua alma.
