Jó amaldiçoa o seu nascimento e lamenta a sua miséria

1 Depois disso, começou Jó a falar e amaldiçoou o seu dia. 2 E Jó disse:

3 *Jr 20.14-18Pereça o dia em que nasci

e a noite que disse:

Foi concebido um homem.

4 Converta-se aquele dia em trevas;

não olhe Deus para ele lá de cima,

nem sobre ele resplandeça a luz.

5 Reclamem-no para si as trevas e a sombra da morte;

sobre ele façam as nuvens a sua habitação;

espante-o tudo o que escurece o dia.

6 Aquela noite! Dela se apoderem densas trevas;

de que têm cantado os homens cantam.

não entre em o número dos meses.

7 Seja estéril aquela noite,

e nela não se ouçam vozes de regozijo.

8 Amaldiçoem-na os que amaldiçoam o dia

e são peritos *Jó 41.25em suscitar o Leviatã.

9 Escureçam-se as estrelas da sua alva;

espere ela a luz, e a luz não venha,

e não veja *Jó 41.18as pálpebras da manhã,

10 Porque não fechou as portas do ventre de minha mãe,

nem escondeu dos meus olhos a aflição.

11 *Jó 10.18-19Por que não morri ao sair da madre?

Por que não expirei ao deixar as entranhas?

12 Por que me receberam os joelhos?

Ou por que os peitos me amamentaram?

13 Pois, agora, *Jó 3.13-19;7.8-10,21;10.21-22;14.10-15,20-22;16.22;17.13-16;19.25-27;21.13,23-26;24.19-20;26.5-6;34.22eu estaria deitado e quieto;

eu dormiria e assim teria estado em descanso,

14 juntamente com os *Jó 12.18reis e *Jó 12.17conselheiros da terra

que edificaram para si mausoléus;

15 ou como os *Jó 12.21príncipes *Jó 27.16-17que possuíram ouro,

os quais encheram as suas casas de prata;

16 ou como aborto oculto eu não teria existido,

como infantes que nunca viram a luz.

17 Ali, os ímpios cessam de inquietar,

e ali *Jó 17.16descansam os cansados.

18 Ali, os encarcerados juntos repousam;

não ouvem a voz do encantador.

19 O pequeno e o grande ali estão,

e o servo está livre do seu senhor.

20 Porque se concede luz ao aflito,

e vida, aos amargurados de alma,

21 que esperam a morte, sem que ela venha,

e cavam em procura dela mais do que de tesouros escondidos;

22 que se regozijam em extremo

e exultam quando podem achar a sepultura?

23 Ao homem *Jó 19.6,8,12cujo caminho está escondido,

e a quem *Jó 19.8;Sl 88.8Deus cercou de todos os lados?

24 Como a minha comida, vêm *Jó 6.7;33.20os meus suspiros,

e, como águas, se derramam *Jó 30.16;Sl 42.4os meus gemidos.

25 Pois *Jó 9.28;30.15aquilo que temo me sobrevém,

e o de que tenho medo me acontece.

26 *Jó 7.13-14Não tenho repouso, nem estou quieto, nem tenho descanso,

mas vem inquietação.

11 Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly? 12 Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should suck? 13 For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest, 14 With kings and counsellors of the earth, which built desolate places for themselves; 15 Or with princes that had gold, who filled their houses with silver: 16 Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light. 17 There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest.*3.17 weary: Heb. wearied in strength 18 There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor. 19 The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master.

20 Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul; 21 Which long for death, but it cometh not; and dig for it more than for hid treasures;*3.21 long: Heb. wait 22 Which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave? 23 Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom God hath hedged in? 24 For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters.*3.24 I eat: Heb. my meat 25 For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.*3.25 the thing…: Heb.
