Elifaz repreende a Jó

1 Então, respondeu Elifaz, temanita:

2 Se alguém intentar falar-te, enfadar-te-ás?

Mas *Jó 32.18-20quem poderá conter as palavras?

3 Eis *Jó 4.3-4;29.15-16,21,25que tens ensinado a muitos

e tens fortalecido as mãos fracas.

4 As tuas palavras têm sustentado aos que estavam caindo,

e tens fortalecido os joelhos trêmulos.

5 Porém, agora, que se trata de ti, te *Jó 6.14enfadas;

agora, *Jó 19.21que és atingido, te perturbas.

6 *Jó 1.1O teu temor de Deus não é a tua confiança,

e a tua esperança, a integridade dos teus caminhos?

7 Lembra-te, pois, *Jó 8.20;36.6-7;Sl 37.25quem, sendo inocente, jamais pereceu?

E onde foram os retos exterminados?

8 Conforme tenho visto, *Jó 15.31,35;Pv 22.8;Os 10.13;Gl 6.7os que cultivam iniquidade

e semeiam aflição as segam.

9 Pelo *Jó 15.30;Is 11.4;30.33;2Ts 2.8assopro de Deus, perecem

e, *Jó 40.11-13pela rajada da sua ira, são consumidos.

10 *Jó 5.15;Sl 58.6O rugido do leão, e a voz do leão feroz,

e os dentes dos leões novos são quebrados.

11 *Jó 29.17O leão velho perece por falta de presa,

e os *Jó 5.4;20.10;27.14cachorros da leoa são espalhados.

A insignificância do homem na presença de Deus

12 Mas a mim se me disse uma palavra *Jó 4.12-17;33.15-18em segredo,

e os meus ouvidos perceberam *Jó 26.14um sussurro dela.

13 No meio dos pensamentos que nascem das visões noturnas,

quando profundo sono cai sobre os homens,

14 sobrevieram-me medo e tremor,

que fizeram estremecer todos os meus ossos.

15 Então, passou um sopro sobre o meu rosto;

arrepiaram-se os cabelos da minha carne.

16 Alguém, cuja aparência eu não podia discernir, parou;

um vulto estava diante dos meus olhos.

Houve silêncio, e ouvi uma voz:

17 Pode o *Jó 9.2;25.4mortal ser justo diante de Deus?

Pode o varão ser puro diante do seu *Jó 31.15;32.22;35.10;36.3Criador?

18 Eis que *Jó 15.15Deus não confia nos seus servos

e aos seus anjos atribui loucura.

19 Quanto mais aos que moram *Jó 10.9;33.6em casas de lodo,

que têm *Jó 22.16;Gn 2.7;3.19o seu fundamento no pó,

e que são machucados como a traça!

20 *Jó 14.2Nascem de manhã e, à tarde, são destruídos.

*Jó 14.20;20.7Perecem para sempre, sem que disso se faça caso.

21 Se dentro deles é arrancada *Jó 8.22a corda da tenda,

morrem e *Jó 18.21;36.12não atingem a sabedoria.

1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said, 2 If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?*4.2 to…: Heb. a word*4.2 withhold…: Heb. refrain from words? 3 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands. 4 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees. 5 But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled. 6 Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?

7 Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off? 8 Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same. 9 By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.*4.9 by the breath…: that is, by his anger 10 The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken. 11 The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion’s whelps are scattered abroad.
