Ação de graças pela esperança da salvação

Exortação à santidade

13 Por isso, *Ef 6.14cingindo os lombos do vosso entendimento, *1Pe 4.7;5.8;1Ts 5.6,8;2Tm 4.5; cp.Rm 12.3;Tt 2.6sede sóbrios e *cp.1Pe 1.3esperai inteiramente *1Pe 1.10na graça que vos está sendo trazida *1Pe 1.7na revelação de Jesus Cristo. 14 Como filhos da *1Pe 1.2obediência, *Rm 12.2; cp.1Pe 4.2s.não vos conformando com as cobiças que antes tínheis no tempo da vossa *Ef 4.18ignorância; 15 mas, assim como é santo *1Ts 4.7;1Jo 3.3aquele que vos chamou, *cp.2Co 7.1tornai-vos vós também santos *Tg 3.13em todo o vosso procedimento, 16 porquanto está escrito: *Lv 11.44s.;19.2;20.7Sereis santos, porque eu sou santo. 17 *Sl 89.26;Jr 3.19;Ml 1.6;Mt 6.9Se invocais como Pai aquele que, *At 10.34sem se deixar levar de respeitos humanos, *Mt 16.27julga segundo a obra de cada um, vivei *1Pe 3.15;2Co 7.1; cp.Hb 12.28em temor durante o tempo da vossa *1Pe 2.11;Ef 2.19peregrinação, 18 sabendo que fostes *Is 52.3;1Co 6.20;Tt 2.14;Hb 9.12;2Pe 2.1;Mt 20.28resgatados das vossas *Ef 4.17práticas vãs que, por tradição, recebestes de vossos pais, não por coisas corruptíveis, como o ouro ou a prata, 19 mas pelo *At 20.28; cp.1Pe 1.2sangue precioso de Cristo, como de um *Jo 1.29;Hb 9.14cordeiro sem defeito e imaculado, 20 *At 2.23; cp.1Pe 1.2;Ef 1.4;Ap 13.8conhecido, na verdade, antes da *Mt 25.34fundação do mundo, mas *Hb 9.26manifestado no fim dos tempos *Hb 2.14por amor de vós, 21 que, por ele, *Rm 4.24;10.9tendes fé em Deus, que o ressuscitou dentre os mortos e *Hb 2.9; cp.1Tm 3.16;Jo 17.5,24lhe deu glória, de modo que a vossa fé e *1Pe 1.3esperança fossem em Deus. 22 Uma vez que *cp.Tg 4.8tendes purificado as vossas almas na vossa *1Pe 1.2obediência à verdade que leva ao *Jo 13.34;Rm 12.10;Hb 13.1; cp.1Pe 2.17;3.8amor não fingido dos irmãos, de coração amai-vos uns aos outros ardentemente, 23 sendo *1Pe 1.3; cp.Jo 3.3regenerados, *Jo 1.13não de semente corruptível, mas de incorruptível, *Hb 4.12pela palavra de Deus, a qual vive e permanece. 24 Pois:

e toda a sua glória, como a flor da erva;

seca-se a erva,

e cai a flor;

25 Mas a palavra do Senhor permanece eternamente.

Esta é *Hb 6.5a palavra que vos foi evangelizada.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an incorruptible and undefiled inheritance that doesn’t fade away, reserved in Heaven for you, 5 who by the power of God are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved in various trials, 7 that the proof of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes, even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ— 8 whom, not having known, you love. In him, though now you don’t see him, yet believing, you rejoice greatly with joy that is unspeakable and full of glory, 9 receiving the result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets sought and searched diligently. They prophesied of the grace that would come to you, 11 searching for who or what kind of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them pointed to when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow them. 12 To them it was revealed that they served not themselves, but you, in these things, which now have been announced to you through those who preached the Good News to you by the Holy Spirit sent out from heaven; which things angels desire to look into.

13 Therefore prepare your minds for action.*1:13 literally, "gird up the waist of your mind" or "put on the belt of the waist of your mind" Be sober, and set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ— 14 as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your former lusts as in your ignorance, 15 but just as he who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all of your behavior, 16 because it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy."✝1:16 Leviticus 11:44-45

17 If you call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judges according to each man’s work, pass the time of your living as foreigners here in reverent fear, 18 knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things like silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers, 19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish or spot, the blood of Christ, 20 who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in this last age for your sake, 21 who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope might be in God.

22 Seeing you have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth through the Spirit in sincere brotherly affection, love one another from the heart fervently, 23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which lives and remains forever. 24 For,

"All flesh is like grass,

and all of man’s glory like the flower in the grass.

The grass withers, and its flower falls;

25 but the Lord’s word endures forever."✝1:25 Isaiah 40:6-8

This is the word of Good News which was preached to you.
