A generosa oferta das igrejas da Macedônia para os cristãos pobres da Judeia

1 Além disso, irmãos, vos fazemos conhecer a graça de Deus, que foi *2Co 8.5dada nas igrejas da *At 16.9Macedônia; 2 como, em grande prova de tribulação, a abundância do seu gozo e a sua extrema pobreza abundaram nas *Rm 2.4riquezas da sua generosidade; 3 porque testifico que, *2Co 8.11;1Co 16.2segundo as suas forças e além das suas forças, contribuíram espontaneamente, 4 pedindo-nos, com muitas súplicas, *Rm 15.25s.;At 24.17o favor de se associarem nesse *2Co 8.19s.;2Co 9.1,12s.;Rm 15.31serviço pelos santos. 5 Eles não só fizeram como esperávamos, mas *2Co 8.1deram-se a si mesmos primeiro ao Senhor, depois a nós, pela *1Co 1.1vontade de Deus; 6 de maneira que *2Co 8.17;2Co 12.18exortamos a *2Co 8.16,23;2Co 2.13Tito a que, como antes ele *2Co 8.10tinha começado, assim também completasse em vós ainda esta graça. 7 Mas, como *2Co 9.8abundais *cp.1Co 1.5;12.8;Rm 15.14em tudo, em fé, em palavra, em ciência, em toda a solicitude, em nosso amor para convosco, vede que assim abundeis também nessa graça. 8 Não o digo *1Co 7.6como mandamento, mas para provar, mediante o zelo de outros, a sinceridade também da vossa caridade; 9 pois conheceis a *2Co 13.13graça de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, que, *Fp 2.6s.;Mt 20.28; cp.2Co 6.10sendo rico, se tornou pobre por amor de vós, para que pela sua pobreza fôsseis vós enriquecidos. 10 Nisso *1Co 7.25,40dou o meu parecer; pois é para o proveito de vós que primeiro começastes, desde o *2Co 9.2; cp.1Co 16.2s.ano passado, não só a fazer, mas também a querer. 11 Agora, porém, acabai a obra, para que, como houve *2Co 8.12,19;2Co 9.2prontidão no querer, assim também haja o cumprir segundo as vossas posses. 12 Se existe a prontidão, é aceitável segundo o que alguém tem e não *cp.Mc 12.43s.;Lc 21.3;2Co 9.7segundo o que não tem. 13 Pois digo isso, não para que haja alívio para outros e aperto, para vós; 14 mas para que haja igualdade, suprindo a vossa abundância no tempo presente a sua deficiência, para que também *cp.2Co 9.12;At 4.34a sua abundância venha a suprir a vossa deficiência, a fim de que haja igualdade, 15 como está escrito: *Êx 16.18O que muito colheu não teve sobra; e o que pouco colheu não teve falta.

A nova missão de Tito

16 Mas, *2Co 2.14graças a Deus, que *Ap 17.17pôs no coração de *2Co 8.6Tito a mesma solicitude por vós; 17 porque, com efeito, aceitou a nossa *2Co 8.6exortação, porém, sendo mais zeloso, partiu para vós por sua própria vontade. 18 Enviamos juntamente com ele *2Co 12.18; cp.1Co 16.3o irmão cujo louvor *2Co 2.12no evangelho se tem espalhado em *1Co 7.17;4.17todas as igrejas, 19 *Rm 5.3e não somente isso, mas também foi pelas igrejas *cp.1Co 16.3s.;At 14.23eleito nosso companheiro de viagem no tocante a *2Co 8.4,6esta graça administrada por nós, para a própria glória do Senhor e para mostrar a nossa *2Co 8.11boa vontade; 20 evitando que alguém nos censure a propósito dessa abundância que por nós é ministrada; 21 pois *Rm 12.17cuidamos de prover coisas honrosas, não só perante o Senhor, como também *Rm 14.18perante os homens. 22 Enviamos com eles um nosso irmão que em muitas coisas temos provado muitas vezes ser zeloso, mas agora muito mais zeloso pela muita confiança que tem em vós. 23 Se alguém perguntar quanto a *2Co 8.6Tito, ele é meu *Fm 17companheiro e cooperador para convosco; quanto aos nossos *2Co 8.18,22irmãos, são *Fp 2.25; cp.Jo 13.16mensageiros das igrejas, *cp.1Co 11.7glória de Cristo. 24 Dai-lhes, portanto, diante das igrejas, prova do vosso amor e da nossa *2Co 7.4glória a vosso respeito.

1 Moreover, brothers, we make known to you the grace of God which has been given in the assemblies of Macedonia, 2 how in a severe ordeal of affliction, the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded to the riches of their generosity. 3 For according to their power, I testify, yes and beyond their power, they gave of their own accord, 4 begging us with much entreaty to receive this grace and the fellowship in the service to the saints. 5 This was not as we had expected, but first they gave their own selves to the Lord, and to us through the will of God. 6 So we urged Titus, that as he had made a beginning before, so he would also complete in you this grace. 7 But as you abound in everything—in faith, utterance, knowledge, all earnestness, and in your love to us—see that you also abound in this grace.

8 I speak not by way of commandment, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity also of your love. 9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich. 10 I give advice in this: it is expedient for you who were the first to start a year ago, not only to do, but also to be willing. 11 But now complete the doing also, that as there was the readiness to be willing, so there may be the completion also out of your ability. 12 For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what you have, not according to what you don’t have. 13 For this is not that others may be eased and you distressed, 14 but for equality. Your abundance at this present time supplies their lack, that their abundance also may become a supply for your lack, that there may be equality. 15 As it is written, "He who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack."✝8:15 Exodus 16:18

16 But thanks be to God, who puts the same earnest care for you into the heart of Titus. 17 For he indeed accepted our exhortation, but being himself very earnest, he went out to you of his own accord. 18 We have sent together with him the brother whose praise in the Good News is known throughout all the assemblies. 19 Not only so, but he was also appointed by the assemblies to travel with us in this grace, which is served by us to the glory of the Lord himself, and to show our readiness. 20 We are avoiding this, that any man should blame us concerning this abundance which is administered by us. 21 Having regard for honorable things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. 22 We have sent with them our brother whom we have many times proved earnest in many things, but now much more earnest, by reason of the great confidence which he has in you. 23 As for Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker for you. As for our brothers, they are the apostles of the assemblies, the glory of Christ. 24 Therefore show the proof of your love to them before the assemblies, and of our boasting on your behalf.
