Saudação. Exortação à confiança nas promessas de Deus. Progresso no conhecimento de Cristo

1 Simão Pedro, *Rm 1.1;Fp 1.1;Jd 1; cp.Tg 1.1servo e *1Pe 1.1apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, aos que alcançaram *Rm 1.12;2Co 4.13; cp.Tt 1.4fé igualmente preciosa conosco *cp.Rm 3.21-26na justiça de *Tt 2.13nosso Deus e Salvador Jesus Cristo: 2 *1Pe 1.2;Rm 1.7graça e paz vos sejam multiplicadas no *2Pe 1.3,8;2Pe 2.20;3.18; cp.Jo 17.3;Fp 3.8pleno conhecimento de Deus e de Jesus, nosso Senhor. 3 Visto que o seu *cp.1Pe 1.5divino poder nos tem dado tudo o que diz respeito à vida e à piedade, pelo pleno conhecimento daquele que *cp.1Ts 2.12;2Ts 2.14;1Pe 5.10nos chamou por sua glória e virtude, 4 pelas quais ele nos tem comunicado as suas preciosas e mui grandes *cp.2Pe 3.9,13promessas, para que por elas vos torneis *cp.Ef 4.13,24;Hb 12.10;1Jo 3.2participantes da natureza divina, tendo *2Pe 2.18,20escapado da *2Pe 2.19corrupção que há *Tg 1.27no mundo pela cobiça, 5 por isso mesmo, vós, aplicando da vossa parte toda a diligência, ajuntai à vossa fé *cp.2Pe 1.3a virtude; 6 à virtude, a *Cl 2.3; cp.2Pe 1.2ciência; à ciência, a temperança; *At 24.25à temperança, *Lc 21.19a fortaleza; à fortaleza, *cp.2Pe 1.3a piedade; 7 à piedade, *Rm 12.10;1Pe 1.22o amor dos irmãos; e, ao amor dos irmãos, a caridade. 8 Pois, se essas coisas vos pertencem e abundam em vós, fazem que não sejais ociosos nem *Cl 1.10sem fruto no pleno conhecimento de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo. 9 Mas aquele em quem não há essas coisas *cp.1Jo 2.11é cego, vendo só o que está perto, porque se tem esquecido da *Ef 5.26;Tt 2.14purificação dos seus pecados antigos. 10 Por isso, irmãos, ponde cada vez maior cuidado em fazer firme a vossa *Rm 11.29; cp.2Pe 1.3;Mt 22.14vocação e *cp.1Ts 1.4eleição; porque, fazendo isso, *Jd 24; cp.2Pe 3.17;Tg 2.10não tropeçareis jamais. 11 Pois assim vos será dada largamente a entrada no *2Tm 4.18reino eterno de nosso *2Pe 2.20;3.18Senhor e Salvador Jesus Cristo.

À vista da sua morte exorta-os com fervor. A transfiguração é penhor da vinda de Cristo

12 Pois sempre *Jd 5; cp.Fp 3.1;1Jo 2.21estarei pronto para vos fazer lembrar essas coisas, ainda que as sabeis e estais confirmados na *cp.Cl 1.5s.;2Jo 2verdade que vos está presente. 13 Tenho por *Fp 1.7justo, enquanto estou *2Co 5.1,4;2Pe 1.14neste tabernáculo, *2Pe 3.1despertar-vos com recordações, 14 sabendo que, *cp.2Tm 4.6;2Co 5.1brevemente, hei de deixar este meu tabernáculo, *cp.Jo 13.36;21.19segundo o que também me deu a entender nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo. 15 Mas terei cuidado também que, a todo tempo, depois da minha *Lc 9.31retirada, possais ter lembrança dessas coisas. 16 Pois não seguimos *1Tm 1.4; cp.2Pe 2.3fábulas engenhosas, quando vos fizemos conhecer *cp.Mc 13.26;14.62;1Ts 2.19o poder e a vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo; mas nós fomos *Mt 17.1ss.;Mc 9.2ss.;Lc 9.28ss.testemunhas oculares da sua majestade, 17 porquanto ele recebeu de Deus Pai honra e glória, quando pela *cp.Hb 1.3Magnífica Glória lhe foi comunicada *Mt 17.5;Mc 9.7;Lc 9.35esta voz: Este é o meu Filho dileto, em quem me agrado. 18 Nós ouvimos essa voz, do céu comunicada, quando estávamos com ele no *cp.Êx 3.5;Js 5.15monte santo. 19 Ainda temos *cp.Hb 2.2mais segura a *1Pe 1.10s.palavra dos profetas, a qual fazeis bem de atender, como a uma *cp.Sl 119.105candeia que alumia num lugar escuro, até que *Lc 1.78o dia esclareça, e *Ap 22.16a estrela da alva surja *2Co 4.6nos vossos corações, 20 *2Pe 3.3conhecendo primeiro isto, que *cp.Rm 12.6nenhuma profecia da Escritura é de particular interpretação, 21 porque *cp.Jr 23.26;2Tm 3.16a profecia jamais foi dada pela vontade dos homens, mas os homens da parte de Deus falavam, *1Pe 1.11; cp.2Sm 23.2;Lc 1.70;At 1.16;3.18movidos pelo Espírito Santo.

1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,*1:1 "Christ" means "Anointed One". to those who have obtained a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ: 2 Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 seeing that his divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and virtue, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and exceedingly great promises; that through these you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world by lust. 5 Yes, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence; and in moral excellence, knowledge; 6 and in knowledge, self-control; and in self-control, perseverance; and in perseverance, godliness; 7 and in godliness, brotherly affection; and in brotherly affection, love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to not be idle or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins. 10 Therefore, brothers,*1:10 The word for "brothers" here and where context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings." be more diligent to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never stumble. 11 For thus you will be richly supplied with the entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

12 Therefore I will not be negligent to remind you of these things, though you know them and are established in the present truth. 13 I think it right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you, 14 knowing that the putting off of my tent comes swiftly, even as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me. 15 Yes, I will make every effort that you may always be able to remember these things even after my departure.

16 For we didn’t follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For he received from God the Father honor and glory when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."✝1:17 Matthew 17:5; Mark 9:7; Luke 9:35 18 We heard this voice come out of heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.

19 We have the more sure word of prophecy; and you do well that you heed it as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of private interpretation. 21 For no prophecy ever came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke, being moved by the Holy Spirit.
