Jeremias 10

1 Ouvi a palavra que Jeová vos fala, casa de Israel. 2 Assim diz Jeová: *Lv 18.3;Dt 12.30Não aprendais o caminho das nações e não vos espanteis dos sinais do céu, pois deles *Is 47.12-14se espantam as nações. 3 Pois os costumes dos povos são *Jr 14.22vaidade. *Is 44.9-20O ídolo é apenas um madeiro que se corta do bosque, obra das mãos do artífice que o trabalhou com o machado. 4 *Jr 10.14;Is 40.19Enfeitam-no com prata e com ouro; *Is 40.20;41.7com pregos e a marteladas o firmam, para que não se abale. 5 São como o espantalho num pepinal *Jr 10.14;Is 46.6-7e não falam; *Is 46.1,7necessitam de serem carregados porque não podem dar passo. Não tenhais medo deles, porque *Is 41.23-24não podem fazer o mal, nem está neles o fazer o bem.

Convém que sejas temido, porquanto, entre todos os *Dn 2.27-28;1Co 1.19-20sábios das nações e em todos os seus reinos, não há quem seja semelhante a ti. 8 Porém são, à uma, *Jr 10.14;Jr 4.22;5.4,21embrutecidos e se tornam insensatos; a instrução que os ídolos lhes dão é *Jr 2.27madeiro. 9 Há *Is 40.19prata em chapas que se traz de *Sl 72.10;Is 23.6Társis, e *Dt 10.5ouro, de Ufaz, obra do artífice e das mãos do ourives; de azul e de púrpura é a vestidura deles; todos eles são obra de *Sl 115.4homens peritos. 10 Porém Jeová é o *Is 65.16verdadeiro Deus; ele é *Jr 4.2o Deus vivo e *Sl 10.16;29.10o Rei sempiterno. Ao seu furor, *Jr 4.24;50.46estremece a terra, e as nações não podem *Sl 76.7suportar a sua indignação.

11 Assim lhes direis: *Sl 96.5Os deuses que não fizeram os céus e a terra *Is 2.18;Sf 2.11perecerão da terra e de debaixo dos céus.

12 *Jr 51.15-19;Jó 38.4-7;Sl 148.4-5Ele fez a terra com o seu poder, *Sl 78.69;Is 45.18estabeleceu o mundo com a sua sabedoria e, com o seu entendimento, *Jó 9.8;Is 40.22estendeu os céus; 13 ao dar ele a sua *Sl 29.3-9voz, há um tumulto de águas nos céus, e faz subir das extremidades da terra *Jó 36.27-29os vapores; faz os relâmpagos para a chuva e, dos seus tesouros, faz sair *Sl 135.7o vento. 14 Todo homem tem-se *Jr 10.8;Jr 51.17-18embrutecido e não tem conhecimento; todo ourives é envergonhado pela imagem que ele esculpiu. Pois a imagem que ele fundiu é mentira, e nelas não há fôlego. 15 *Jr 8.19;14.22;Is 41.24Vaidade são, obra de enganos; *Jr 8.12;51.18no tempo da sua visitação, perecerão. 16 Não é semelhante a estes Aquele que é a *Jr 51.19;Sl 73.26Porção de Jacó; porque ele é *Jr 10.12;Is 45.7o que forma todas as coisas; *Dt 32.9e Israel é a tribo da sua herança. *Jr 31.35;32.18Jeová dos Exércitos é o seu nome.

17 *Ez 12.3-12Tira do chão a tua trouxa, tu que moras em lugar cercado. 18 Pois assim diz Jeová: Eis que vou, agora, *1Sm 25.29lançar para fora os habitantes da terra e os angustiarei, para que o sintam.

19 *Jr 4.31Ai de mim por causa do meu mal! *Jr 14.17Mui grande é a minha ferida. Mas eu disse: Certamente, enfermidade minha é esta, e *Sl 39.9;Mq 7.9eu a suportarei. 20 A minha *Jr 4.20;Lm 2.4tenda foi despojada, e todas as minhas cordas foram quebradas; *Jr 31.15;Lm 1.5meus filhos saíram de mim, já não existem: *Is 51.18não há mais quem estenda a minha tenda e levante as minhas cortinas. 21 Pois os pastores *Jr 10.8;Jr 12.10;Is 56.10-12se embruteceram e não *Jr 2.8consultaram a Jeová; por isso, não prosperaram, e *Jr 23.2todos os seus rebanhos se acham dispersos. 22 Eis que vem o som *Jr 4.15dum rumor e um grande tumulto *Jr 1.14;25.9da terra do Norte, *Jr 9.11;49.33para fazer das cidades de Judá uma desolação, uma morada de chacais.

23 Eu sei, Jeová, *Pv 20.24que não é do homem o seu caminho, *Is 26.7não depende do homem que anda o dirigir os seus passos. 24 *Sl 6.1Corrige-me, Jeová, porém com juízo; não na tua ira, para que não me reduzas a nada. 25 *Sl 79.6-7;Sf 3.8Derrama o teu furor sobre as gentes que não te conhecem e sobre as famílias *Sf 1.6que não invocam o teu nome, porque devoraram a Jacó, sim, o *Jr 8.16;50.7,17devoraram, e consumiram, e devastaram o lugar da sua habitação.

1 Hear the word which Yahweh speaks to you, house of Israel! 2 Yahweh says,

"Don’t learn the way of the nations,

and don’t be dismayed at the signs of the sky;

for the nations are dismayed at them.

3 For the customs of the peoples are vanity;

for one cuts a tree out of the forest,

the work of the hands of the workman with the ax.

4 They deck it with silver and with gold.

They fasten it with nails and with hammers,

so that it can’t move.

5 They are like a palm tree, of turned work,

and don’t speak.

They must be carried,

because they can’t move.

Don’t be afraid of them;

for they can’t do evil,

neither is it in them to do good."

6 There is no one like you, Yahweh.

You are great,

and your name is great in might.

7 Who shouldn’t fear you,

King of the nations?

For it belongs to you.

Because among all the wise men of the nations,

and in all their royal estate,

there is no one like you.

8 But they are together brutish and foolish,

instructed by idols!

It is just wood.

9 There is silver beaten into plates, which is brought from Tarshish,

and gold from Uphaz,

the work of the engraver and of the hands of the goldsmith.

Their clothing is blue and purple.

They are all the work of skillful men.

10 But Yahweh is the true God.

He is the living God,

and an everlasting King.

At his wrath, the earth trembles.

The nations aren’t able to withstand his indignation.

11 "You shall say this to them: ‘The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth, and from under the heavens.’"

12 God has made the earth by his power.

He has established the world by his wisdom,

and by his understanding has he stretched out the heavens.

13 When he utters his voice,

the waters in the heavens roar,

and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth.

He makes lightnings for the rain,

and brings the wind out of his treasuries.

14 Every man has become brutish and without knowledge.

Every goldsmith is disappointed by his engraved image;

for his molten image is falsehood,

and there is no breath in them.

15 They are vanity, a work of delusion.

In the time of their visitation they will perish.

16 The portion of Jacob is not like these;

for he is the maker of all things;

and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance.

Yahweh of Armies is his name.

17 Gather up your wares out of the land,

you who live under siege.

18 For Yahweh says,

"Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this time,

and will distress them, that they may feel it."

19 Woe is me because of my injury!

My wound is serious;

but I said,

"Truly this is my grief, and I must bear it."

20 My tent has been destroyed,

and all my cords are broken.

My children have gone away from me, and they are no more.

There is no one to spread my tent any more,

to set up my curtains.

21 For the shepherds have become brutish,

and have not inquired of Yahweh.

Therefore they have not prospered,

and all their flocks have scattered.

22 The voice of news, behold, it comes,

and a great commotion out of the north country,

to make the cities of Judah a desolation,

a dwelling place of jackals.

23 Yahweh, I know that the way of man is not in himself.

It is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

24 Yahweh, correct me, but gently;

not in your anger,

lest you reduce me to nothing.

25 Pour out your wrath on the nations that don’t know you,

and on the families that don’t call on your name;

for they have devoured Jacob.

Yes, they have devoured him, consumed him,

and have laid waste his habitation.
