O inquérito de Zedequias e a resposta de Jeremias

1 A palavra que veio da parte de Jeová a Jeremias, quando o *Jr 32.1-3;37.1;52.1-3;2Rs 24.17-18 rei Zedequias lhe enviou *Jr 38.1;1Cr 9.12Pasur, filho de Malquias, e *Jr 29.25,29;37.3;52.24;2Rs 25.18-21Sofonias, filho do sacerdote Maaseias, que dissessem: 2 *Jr 15.11;37.3,17;Ez 14.3,7;20.1-3Consulta a Jeová por nós, porque *2Rs 25.1-2Nabucodonosor, rei de *Gn 10.10;2Rs 17.24Babilônia, está fazendo guerra contra nós. Porventura, Jeová nos tratará *Jr 32.17;Sl 44.1-4segundo todas as suas obras maravilhosas, para que o rei se retire de nós.

3 Então, lhes respondeu Jeremias: 4 Assim direis a Zedequias: Assim diz Jeová, Deus de Israel: Eis que *Jr 32.5;33.5;37.8-10;38.2-3,17-18tornarei para trás os instrumentos de guerra que estão nas vossas mãos, com os quais vós pelejais contra o rei de Babilônia e contra os caldeus, que vos cercam ao redor dos muros, e *Jr 39.3;Is 5.5;Lm 2.5,7;Zc 14.2ajuntá-los-ei no meio desta cidade. 5 *Is 63.10Eu pelejarei contra vós *Jr 6.12;Dt 4.34com mão estendida e com braço forte, e *Jr 32.37;Is 5.25em ira, e em furor, e em grande indignação. 6 *Jr 7.20;12.3-4Ferirei os habitantes desta cidade, tanto os homens como os animais; e morrerão duma grande *Jr 14.12;32.24peste. 7 Depois, diz Jeová, *Jr 39.5-9;2Rs 25.5-7,18-21;Ez 12.12-16;17.20-21entregarei nas mãos de Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, e nas mãos dos seus inimigos, e nas mãos dos que procuram tirar-lhes a vida a Zedequias, rei de Judá, e seus servos, e o povo, todos quantos nesta cidade restarem da peste, da espada e da fome. Ele os passará ao fio da espada; não *Jr 13.14;2Cr 36.17;Ez 7.9;Hc 1.6-10os poupará, nem se compadecerá, nem terá misericórdia.

8 A este povo dirás: Assim diz Jeová: Eis que ponho diante de vós o *Dt 30.15,19;Is 1.19-20caminho da vida e o caminho da morte. 9 O que *Jr 38.2,17-23ficar nesta cidade morrerá à *Jr 14.12;24.10espada, e de fome, e de peste; mas o que sair e for para os caldeus, que vos cercam, viverá, *Jr 38.2;39.18;45.5e a sua vida lhe será por despojo. 10 Pois *Jr 44.11,27;Am 9.4pus o meu rosto contra esta cidade para *Jr 39.16;Sl 34.16mal e não para bem, diz Jeová; ela será *Jr 32.28-29entregue nas mãos do rei de Babilônia, e este *Jr 39.8;52.13;2Cr 36.19a queimará com fogo.

A casa de Judá é admoestada a não proceder injustamente

11 No tocante *Jr 13.18;17.20;Mq 3.1à casa de Judá, ouvi a palavra de Jeová: 12 *Is 7.2,13Ó casa de Davi, assim diz Jeová, *Jr 7.5;22.3;Sl 72.1;Is 1.17;Zc 7.9-10executai juízo *Sf 3.5pela manhã e livrai das mãos do opressor aquele que foi despojado, *Jr 4.4;17.4;Ez 20.47-48;Na 1.6para que não seja o meu furor como fogo e arda sem *Jr 7.20;Is 1.31que haja quem o apague por causa da maldade dos vossos feitos. 13 Eis que sou *Jr 23.30-32contra ti, Moradora *Sl 125.2;Is 22.1do vale e da Rocha do planalto, diz Jeová; contra vós que dizeis: *2Sm 5.6-7;Lm 4.12;Ob 3,4Quem descerá contra nós? Ou quem entrará em nossas habitações? 14 Castigar-vos-ei *Jr 17.10;32.19;Is 3.10-11segundo o fruto dos vossos feitos, diz Jeová; no bosque dela, *Jr 11.16;17.27;Is 10.16,18;Ez 20.46,48;Zc 11.1acenderei fogo que *Jr 52.13;2Cr 36.19devorará tudo o que está ao redor dela.

1 The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, when King Zedekiah sent to him Pashhur the son of Malchijah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, saying, 2 "Please inquire of Yahweh for us; for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon makes war against us. Perhaps Yahweh will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may withdraw from us."

3 Then Jeremiah said to them, "Tell Zedekiah: 4 ‘Yahweh, the God of Israel says, "Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, with which you fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans who besiege you outside the walls; and I will gather them into the middle of this city. 5 I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, in wrath, and in great indignation. 6 I will strike the inhabitants of this city, both man and animal. They will die of a great pestilence. 7 Afterward," says Yahweh, "I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, his servants, and the people, even those who are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life. He will strike them with the edge of the sword. He will not spare them, have pity, or have mercy."’

8 "You shall say to this people, ‘Yahweh says: "Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death. 9 He who remains in this city will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, but he who goes out and passes over to the Chaldeans who besiege you, he will live, and he will escape with his life. 10 For I have set my face on this city for evil, and not for good," says Yahweh. "It will be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will burn it with fire."’

11 "Concerning the house of the king of Judah, hear Yahweh’s word: 12 House of David, Yahweh says,

‘Execute justice in the morning,

and deliver him who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor,

lest my wrath go out like fire,

and burn so that no one can quench it,

because of the evil of your doings.

13 Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley,

and of the rock of the plain,’ says Yahweh.

‘You that say, "Who would come down against us?"

or, "Who would enter into our homes?"

14 I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings,’ says Yahweh;

‘and I will kindle a fire in her forest,

and it will devour all that is around her.’"
