Jó mostra que os ímpios, muitas vezes, gozam prosperidade nesta vida

1 Então, respondeu Jó:

2 Ouvi atentamente as minhas palavras;

seja isso a consolação que me quereis dar.

3 Permiti-me que eu também fale;

e, havendo eu falado, *Jó 11.3;17.2zombai.

4 É, porventura, do homem *Jó 7.11, ref.que eu me queixo?

*Jó 6.11Não tenho motivo de me impacientar?

5 Olhai para mim, e pasmai,

*Jó 13.5;29.9;40.4;Jz 18.19e ponde a mão sobre a vossa boca.

6 Mesmo de pensar nisso, me perturbo,

*Sl 55.5e o horror apodera-se da minha carne.

7 Por que *Jó 9.24, ref.;Sl 73.3;Jr 12.1;Hc 1.13vivem os iníquos,

se envelhecem e *Jó 12.19, ref.se robustecem em poder?

8 *Sl 17.14Seus filhos estabelecem-se com eles à sua vista,

e os seus descendentes, diante dos seus olhos.

9 As suas casas *Jó 12.6, ref.estão livres de medo,

e a vara de Deus não cai sobre eles.

10 O seu touro gera e não falha;

pare a sua vaca e não aborta.

11 Fazem sair a seus filhos como um rebanho,

e os seus pequenos saltam e brincam.

12 Cantam ao som do tamboril e da harpa

e regozijam-se ao som da flauta.

13 *Jó 21.23;36.11Passam os seus dias em prosperidade

e, num momento, descem ao Sheol.

14 Contudo, disseram a Deus:

*Jó 22.17Retira-te de nós,

pois não desejamos conhecer os teus caminhos.

15 Que é o Todo-Poderoso, para que o sirvamos?

*Jó 22.17;34.9Que nos aproveitará, se lhe dirigirmos orações?

16 Eis que não está nas mãos deles a sua prosperidade.

Longe de mim *Jó 22.18o conselho dos iníquos!

17 Quantas vezes sucede que se apaga *Jó 18.5-6a lâmpada dos iníquos?

Que lhes sobrevém *Jó 31.2-3a calamidade?

Que Deus, na sua ira, lhes distribui dores?

18 Que eles são como a *Jó 13.25;Sl 83.13palha diante do vento

e como a *Sl 1.4;35.5;Is 17.13;Os 13.3pragana que a tempestade leva?

19 *Êx 20.5;Jr 31.29;Ez 18.2Deus, dizeis vós, reserva a iniquidade do pai para seus filhos,

mas é a ele mesmo que Deus deveria punir, para que o sinta.

20 Vejam os *Nm 14.28-32;Jr 31.30;Ez 18.4seus próprios olhos a sua destruição,

*Sl 60.3;Is 51.17;Jr 25.15;Ap 14.10e beba ele do furor do Todo-Poderoso.

21 Pois que se lhe dá a ele da sua casa depois de morto,

quando lhe for cortado o número dos seus meses?

22 Acaso, a Deus *Jó 35.11;36.22;Is 40.14;Rm 11.34ensinará alguém ciência,

desde que é ele quem *Jó 4.18;15.15;Sl 82.1julga os que são elevados?

23 Um *Jó 21.13;20.11morre em seu pleno vigor,

inteiramente sossegado e tranquilo;

24 com os seus baldes cheios de leite

e a *Pv 3.8medula dos seus ossos umedecida;

25 outro, porém, morre em amargura de alma

e nunca prova o bem;

26 *Jó 3.13, ref.;20.11;Ec 9.2dormem juntamente no pó,

cobrem-nos *Jó 24.20;Is 14.11os vermes.

27 Eis que conheço os vossos pensamentos

e os desígnios que injustamente imaginais contra mim.

28 Pois dizeis: Onde está a casa *Jó 1.3;31.37do príncipe?

Onde está a *Jó 8.22, ref.;18.21tenda em que moravam os iníquos?

29 Porventura, não tendes interrogado aos viandantes?

E desconheceis os fatos da sua experiência:

30 que *Jó 20.29, ref.;Pv 16.4;2Pe 2.9os homens maus são poupados no dia da calamidade,

que são protegidos no *Jó 21.17,20;40.11dia do furor?

31 Quem lhe lançará no rosto o seu caminho?

Quem lhe dará o pago do que fez?

32 Contudo, ele é levado para a sepultura,

e vigiam-lhe o túmulo.

33 *Jó 3.22;17.16Os torrões do vale lhe são leves,

*Jó 3.19;24.24e todos os homens o imitarão,

como ele o fez aos inumeráveis predecessores.

34 Como, pois, me *Jó 16.2ofereceis consolações vãs,

visto que das vossas respostas só resta a falsidade?

1 Then Job answered,

2 "Listen diligently to my speech.

Let this be your consolation.

3 Allow me, and I also will speak.

After I have spoken, mock on.

4 As for me, is my complaint to man?

Why shouldn’t I be impatient?

5 Look at me, and be astonished.

Lay your hand on your mouth.

6 When I remember, I am troubled.

Horror takes hold of my flesh.

7 "Why do the wicked live,

become old, yes, and grow mighty in power?

8 Their child is established with them in their sight,

their offspring before their eyes.

9 Their houses are safe from fear,

neither is the rod of God upon them.

10 Their bulls breed without fail.

Their cows calve, and don’t miscarry.

11 They send out their little ones like a flock.

Their children dance.

12 They sing to the tambourine and harp,

and rejoice at the sound of the pipe.

13 They spend their days in prosperity.

In an instant they go down to Sheol.*21:13 Sheol is the place of the dead.

14 They tell God, ‘Depart from us,

for we don’t want to know about your ways.

15 What is the Almighty, that we should serve him?

What profit should we have, if we pray to him?’

16 Behold, their prosperity is not in their hand.

The counsel of the wicked is far from me.

17 "How often is it that the lamp of the wicked is put out,

that their calamity comes on them,

that God distributes sorrows in his anger?

18 How often is it that they are as stubble before the wind,

as chaff that the storm carries away?

19 You say, ‘God lays up his iniquity for his children.’

Let him recompense it to himself, that he may know it.

20 Let his own eyes see his destruction.

Let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

21 For what does he care for his house after him,

when the number of his months is cut off?

22 "Shall any teach God knowledge,

since he judges those who are high?

23 One dies in his full strength,

being wholly at ease and quiet.

24 His pails are full of milk.

The marrow of his bones is moistened.

25 Another dies in bitterness of soul,

and never tastes of good.

26 They lie down alike in the dust.

The worm covers them.

27 "Behold, I know your thoughts,

the plans with which you would wrong me.

28 For you say, ‘Where is the house of the prince?

Where is the tent in which the wicked lived?’

29 Haven’t you asked wayfaring men?

Don’t you know their evidences,

30 that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity,

that they are led out to the day of wrath?

31 Who will declare his way to his face?

Who will repay him what he has done?

32 Yet he will be borne to the grave.

Men will keep watch over the tomb.

33 The clods of the valley will be sweet to him.

All men will draw after him,

as there were innumerable before him.

34 So how can you comfort me with nonsense,

because in your answers there remains only falsehood?"
