Elifaz acusa a Jó de diversos pecados e o exorta a não resistir ao Todo-Poderoso

1 Então, respondeu Elifaz, temanita:

2 Pode o *Jó 35.7;Lc 17.10homem ser de proveito a Deus?

Não! O sábio é só útil a si mesmo.

3 De que serve ao Todo-Poderoso que sejas justo?

Ou que lucro tem ele, se fizeres perfeitos os teus caminhos?

4 É por causa da tua reverência que te reprova,

que *Jó 14.3;19.29entra contigo em juízo?

5 Não é grande *Jó 11.6;15.5a tua maldade,

e infinitas, as tuas iniquidades?

6 Pois, sem causa, *Jó 24.3,9;Êx 22.26;Dt 24.6,17;Ez 18.16tomaste penhores a teu irmão

e *Jó 31.19-20despojaste dos seus vestidos os nus.

7 *Jó 31.16-17Não deste de beber ao cansado

*Jó 31.31e negaste pão ao faminto.

8 Mas ao *Jó 12.19, ref.homem forte *Jó 9.24pertencia a terra;

e *Is 3.3;9.15o homem acatado nela habitava.

9 Despediste vazias *Jó 24.3,21;29.13;31.16,18as viúvas,

e os braços *Jó 6.27, ref.dos órfãos foram quebrados.

10 Portanto, estás cercado *Jó 18.8, ref.de laços,

e um repentino *Jó 15.21, ref.pavor te conturba.

11 Não vês tu *Jó 5.14, ref.as trevas

*Jó 38.34;Sl 69.2;124.5;Lm 3.54e a inundação de águas que te cobre?

12 Não está Deus *Jó 11.7-9nas alturas do céu?

E olha a altura das estrelas. Quão grande é!

13 E dizes: *Sl 10.11;59.7;64.5;94.7;Is 29.15;Ez 8.12Pois que sabe Deus?

Pode ele julgar através das densas trevas?

14 Grossas *Jó 26.9nuvens o encobrem, de modo que não pode ver;

só passeia pela abóbada do céu.

15 Queres seguir a rota antiga,

que *Jó 34.36os homens iníquos pisaram?

16 Esses iníquos foram arrebatados *Jó 15.32;21.13,18antes de tempo,

*Jó 14.19;Sl 90.5;Is 28.2;Mt 7.26-27e os seus alicerces foram derramados como um dilúvio.

17 Eles *Jó 21.14-15diziam a Deus: Retira-te de nós.

E: Que nos pode fazer o Todo-Poderoso?

18 Contudo, Deus *Jó 12.6encheu as suas casas de bens.

Longe de mim *Jó 21.16os conselhos dos iníquos.

19 *Sl 52.6;58.10;107.42Os justos o veem e se alegram.

Os inocentes riem-se deles,

20 dizendo: Na verdade, são exterminados os que se levantaram contra nós,

*Jó 15.30, ref.e o fogo consumiu o que deixaram.

21 *Sl 34.10Apega-te, pois, a Deus e tem paz;

e, assim, te sobrevirá o bem.

22 Recebe, peço-te, da sua boca *Jó 6.10;23.12;Pv 2.6a lei

e põe as suas palavras no teu coração.

23 *Jó 8.5;11.13;Is 19.22;31.6;Zc 1.3Se voltares para o Todo-Poderoso, serás restabelecido;

*Jó 11.14se lançares a injustiça longe das tuas tendas,

24 *Jó 31.24-25e deitares o teu tesouro no pó

e o ouro de Ofir entre as pedras do ribeiro,

25 então, o Todo-Poderoso será o teu tesouro,

e a tua prata, abundantíssima.

26 Pois, então, te *Jó 27.10;Sl 37.4;Is 58.14deleitarás no Todo-Poderoso,

e levantarás o teu rosto a Deus.

27 Tu lhe *Jó 11.13;33.26;Is 58.9orarás, e *Jó 34.28ele te ouvirá;

e pagarás os teus votos.

28 Farás decretos que serão bem sucedidos,

*Jó 11.17;Sl 112.4E a luz brilhará em teus caminhos.

29 Quando os homens te abaterem, dirás: Levantamento!

E ele salvará *Jó 5.11;36.7;Mt 23.12;Tg 4.6;1Pe 5.5ao humilde.

30 Livrará até aquele que não é inocente,

*Jó 42.7-8;Sl 18.20;24.3-4que deverá a sua salvação à pureza das tuas mãos.

1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered,

2 "Can a man be profitable to God?

Surely he who is wise is profitable to himself.

3 Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous?

Or does it benefit him that you make your ways perfect?

4 Is it for your piety that he reproves you,

that he enters with you into judgment?

5 Isn’t your wickedness great?

Neither is there any end to your iniquities.

6 For you have taken pledges from your brother for nothing,

and stripped the naked of their clothing.

7 You haven’t given water to the weary to drink,

and you have withheld bread from the hungry.

8 But as for the mighty man, he had the earth.

The honorable man, he lived in it.

9 You have sent widows away empty,

and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

10 Therefore snares are around you.

Sudden fear troubles you,

11 or darkness, so that you can not see,

and floods of waters cover you.

12 "Isn’t God in the heights of heaven?

See the height of the stars, how high they are!

13 You say, ‘What does God know?

Can he judge through the thick darkness?

14 Thick clouds are a covering to him, so that he doesn’t see.

He walks on the vault of the sky.’

15 Will you keep the old way,

which wicked men have trodden,

16 who were snatched away before their time,

whose foundation was poured out as a stream,

17 who said to God, ‘Depart from us!’

and, ‘What can the Almighty do for us?’

18 Yet he filled their houses with good things,

but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

19 The righteous see it, and are glad.

The innocent ridicule them,

20 saying, ‘Surely those who rose up against us are cut off.

The fire has consumed their remnant.’

21 "Acquaint yourself with him now, and be at peace.

By it, good will come to you.

22 Please receive instruction from his mouth,

and lay up his words in your heart.

23 If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up,

if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents.

24 Lay your treasure in the dust,

the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks.

25 The Almighty will be your treasure,

and precious silver to you.

26 For then you will delight yourself in the Almighty,

and will lift up your face to God.

27 You will make your prayer to him, and he will hear you.

You will pay your vows.

28 You will also decree a thing, and it will be established to you.

Light will shine on your ways.

29 When they cast down, you will say, ‘be lifted up.’

He will save the humble person.

30 He will even deliver him who is not innocent.

Yes, he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands."
