O cerco e tomada de Nínive

1 Aquele que *Jr 51.20-23destroça subiu diante de ti. *Na 2.5;Na 3.12,14Guarda a fortaleza, vigia o caminho, robustece os lombos, fortifica bem a tua força. 2 Pois Jeová restaura *Is 60.15a excelência de Jacó, *Ez 37.21-23bem como a excelência de Israel; porque saqueadores *Jr 48.11os têm saqueado *Sl 80.12-13e lhes têm destruído os sarmentos. 3 Os escudos dos seus heróis tingem-se de vermelho, os seus valentes estão vestidos de *Ez 23.14-15escarlate; os carros resplandecem de aço no dia do seu apercebimento, *Jó 39.23e as lanças são brandidas. 4 *Na 3.2-3;Is 66.15;Ez 26.10Os carros andam furiosamente nas ruas, cruzam as praças em todas as direções; parecem como tochas, *Jr 4.13correm como os relâmpagos. 5 Ele se lembra dos seus *Na 3.18nobres. *Jr 46.12Tropeçam no seu caminho; apressam-se para chegar ao muro dela, e a manta está armada. 6 *Na 1.8;3.13;Is 45.1As portas dos rios abrem-se, e o palácio está dissolvido. 7 Está decretado: está ela despida, levada cativa; as suas servas *Is 38.14;59.11gemem como pombas, *Is 32.12batendo nos seus peitos.

8 *Na 1.1;3.7Nínive, desde tempos antigos, tem sido como *Is 14.23um tanque de água; contudo, fogem. Parai, parai, clamam eles; mas *Jr 46.5;47.3ninguém olha para trás. 9 *Sf 1.18;Ap 18.12,16Saqueai a prata, saqueai o ouro; pois não há fim do tesouro, da glória de todos os móveis preciosos. 10 Ela está *Na 2.2;Is 24.1;34.10-15vácua, vazia e despojada; *Sl 22.14;Is 13.7-8;Ez 21.7o coração se derrete, e os joelhos tremem, e em todos os lombos há angústia, *Jl 2.6e os rostos de todos eles empalidecem. 11 Onde está o *Na 3.1;Is 5.29;Jr 4.7covil dos leões, e a habitação dos leões novos, onde andavam o leão, e a leoa, e o cachorro do leão, sem haver ninguém que os espantasse? 12 O leão despedaçou o que bastava para os seus cachorros, e afogou para as suas leoas, *Is 10.6-14;Jr 51.34e encheu de presa as suas covas, e de rapina, os seus covis. 13 Eis que *Na 3.5;Jr 21.13;Ez 5.8eu sou contra ti, diz Jeová dos Exércitos *Js 11.6,9;Sl 46.9e queimarei no fumo os teus carros, e a espada devorará os teus leões novos; *Na 3.1,12;Is 49.24-25exterminarei da terra a tua presa, e *2Rs 18.17-25;19.9-13a voz dos teus mensageiros não se ouvirá mais.

1 He who dashes in pieces has come up against you. Keep the fortress! Watch the way! Strengthen your waist! Fortify your power mightily!

2 For Yahweh restores the excellency of Jacob as the excellency of Israel, for the destroyers have destroyed them and ruined their vine branches.

3 The shield of his mighty men is made red. The valiant men are in scarlet. The chariots flash with steel in the day of his preparation, and the pine spears are brandished. 4 The chariots rage in the streets. They rush back and forth in the wide ways. Their appearance is like torches. They run like the lightnings. 5 He summons his picked troops. They stumble on their way. They dash to its wall, and the protective shield is put in place. 6 The gates of the rivers are opened, and the palace is dissolved. 7 It is decreed: she is uncovered, she is carried away; and her servants moan as with the voice of doves, beating on their breasts. 8 But Nineveh has been from of old like a pool of water, yet they flee away. "Stop! Stop!" they cry, but no one looks back. 9 Take the plunder of silver. Take the plunder of gold, for there is no end of treasure, an abundance of every precious thing. 10 She is empty, void, and waste. The heart melts, the knees knock together, their bodies and faces have grown pale. 11 Where is the den of the lions, and the feeding place of the young lions, where the lion and the lioness walked with the lion’s cubs, and no one made them afraid? 12 The lion tore in pieces enough for his cubs, and strangled prey for his lionesses, and filled his caves with the kill and his dens with prey. 13 "Behold, I am against you," says Yahweh of Armies, "and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword will devour your young lions; and I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers will no longer be heard."
