A morte dos galileus e a queda da torre de Siloé

1 Nessa mesma ocasião, vieram alguns dar-lhe notícias dos galileus cujo sangue *Mt 27.2Pilatos misturara com o dos sacrifícios que eles ofereciam. 2 Disse-lhes Jesus: *cp.Jo 9.2s.Cuidais que estes foram maiores pecadores do que todos os outros galileus, por haverem sofrido essas coisas? 3 Não, eu vo-lo digo; mas, se não vos arrependerdes, todos perecereis do mesmo modo. 4 Ou cuidais que aqueles dezoito sobre os quais caiu a torre de *Is 8.6; cp.Ne 3.15;Jo 9.7,11Siloé e os matou foram *cp.Mt 6.12;Lc 11.4mais culpados que todos os outros habitantes de Jerusalém? 5 Não, eu vo-lo digo; mas, se não vos arrependerdes, todos perecereis semelhantemente.

A parábola da figueira estéril

6 Narrou esta parábola: Um homem tinha *Mt 21.19uma figueira plantada na sua vinha, e foi buscar fruto nela, e não o achou. 7 Então, disse ao viticultor: Há três anos que venho procurar fruto nesta figueira e não o acho; *Mt 3.10;7.19;Lc 3.9corta-a; para que está ela ainda ocupando a terra inutilmente? 8 Respondeu-lhe: Senhor, deixa-a por mais este ano, até que eu cave em roda e lhe deite estrume; 9 se der fruto no futuro, bem está; mas, se não, cortá-la-ás.

A cura de uma paralítica

10 Jesus estava *Mt 4.23ensinando em uma das sinagogas no sábado. 11 Veio ali uma mulher possessa de um espírito que a *Lc 13.16tinha enferma havia dezoito anos; andava curvada e não podia de modo algum endireitar-se. 12 Jesus, vendo-a, chamou-a e disse-lhe: Mulher, estás livre da tua enfermidade; 13 *Mc 5.23pôs sobre ela as mãos, e imediatamente ela se endireitou e *Mt 9.8glorificava a Deus. 14 *Mc 5.22O chefe da sinagoga, indignado de ver que Jesus *cp.Mt 12.2;Lc 14.3curava no sábado, disse à multidão: *Êx 20.9;Dt 5.13Seis dias há em que se deve trabalhar; vinde, pois, nesses dias, para serdes curados e não no sábado. 15 *Lc 7.13Respondeu-lhe, porém, o Senhor: Hipócritas, *Lc 14.5não desprende cada um de vós o seu boi ou o seu jumento da manjedoura no sábado, para o levar a beber? 16 Não devia ser solta desta prisão no sábado esta mulher que é *cp.Lc 19.9filha de Abraão e que, há dezoito anos, *Mt 4.10; cp.Lc 13.11Satanás tinha presa? 17 Dizendo ele isso, ficaram envergonhados todos os seus adversários, e se alegrava *Lc 18.43toda a multidão de todas as coisas gloriosas que por ele eram feitas.

A parábola do grão de mostarda

18 *Lc 13.18-19;Mt 13.31-32;Mc 4.30-32Disse, pois: *Mt 13.24;Lc 13.20A que é semelhante o reino de Deus, e a que o compararei? 19 É semelhante a um grão de mostarda que um homem tomou e plantou na sua horta, e que cresceu e fez-se árvore; e as aves do céu pousaram nos seus ramos.

A parábola do fermento

20 Disse-lhes mais: *Mt 13.24;Lc 13.20A que compararei o reino de Deus? 21 É *Lc 13.20-21;Mt 13.33semelhante ao fermento que uma mulher tomou e escondeu *Mt 13.33em três medidas de farinha, até ficar toda ela levedada.

A porta estreita

22 Passava Jesus pelas cidades e aldeias, ensinando e *Lc 9.51caminhando para Jerusalém. 23 Um homem perguntou-lhe: Senhor, são poucos os que se salvam? 24 Respondeu-lhes: *Mt 7.13Porfiai em entrar pela porta estreita, porque vos digo que muitos procurarão entrar, e não poderão. 25 Quando o dono da casa se tiver levantado *Mt 25.10e houver fechado a porta, e vós, do lado de fora, *Lc 3.8começardes a bater, dizendo: *Mt 25.11; cp.7.22Senhor, abre-nos a porta, e ele vos responder: *Lc 13.27;Mt 7.23;25.12Não sei donde sois 26 então, começareis a dizer: Nós comemos e bebemos na tua presença, e tu ensinaste nas nossas ruas. 27 Ele vos dirá: *Lc 13.25Não sei donde sois; *Mt 25.41retirai-vos de mim, todos vós os que praticais a iniquidade. 28 *Mt 8.12Ali haverá o choro e o ranger de dentes, quando virdes, no reino de Deus, Abraão, Isaque, Jacó e todos os profetas e vós, excluídos dele. 29 Muitos *Mt 8.11virão do Oriente e do Ocidente, do Norte e do Sul e hão de sentar-se à mesa no reino de Deus. 30 *Mt 19.30Últimos há que serão primeiros, e primeiros que serão últimos.

Jesus envia uma mensagem a Herodes. Lamento sobre Jerusalém

31 Naquela mesma hora, alguns fariseus vieram dizer-lhe: Retira-te e vai-te daqui, porque *Mt 14.1;Lc 3.1;9.7;23.7Herodes quer tirar-te a vida. 32 Respondeu-lhes Jesus: Ide dizer a esse raposo que, hoje e amanhã, expulso os demônios, e faço curas, e, no terceiro dia, *cp.Hb 2.10;5.9;7.28serei consumado. 33 *cp.Jo 11.9Importa, contudo, caminhar hoje, amanhã e depois de amanhã, porque não convém *Mt 21.11que um profeta pereça fora de Jerusalém. 34 *Lc 13.34-35;Mt 23.37-39; cp.Lc 19.41Jerusalém, Jerusalém, que matas os profetas e apedrejas os que te são enviados! Quantas vezes quis eu ajuntar teus filhos *Mt 23.37como uma galinha ajunta os do seu ninho debaixo das asas, e vós não o quisestes! 35 Eis aí vos é deixada a vossa casa. Declaro-vos que não me vereis, até que venha o dia em que digais: *Sl 118.26;Mt 21.9;Lc 19.38Bendito aquele que vem em nome do Senhor!

1 Now there were some present at the same time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. 2 Jesus answered them, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered such things? 3 I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all perish in the same way. 4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them—do you think that they were worse offenders than all the men who dwell in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no, but, unless you repent, you will all perish in the same way."

6 He spoke this parable. "A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. 7 He said to the vine dresser, ‘Behold, these three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and found none. Cut it down! Why does it waste the soil?’ 8 He answered, ‘Lord, leave it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it. 9 If it bears fruit, fine; but if not, after that, you can cut it down.’"

10 He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath day. 11 Behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years. She was bent over and could in no way straighten herself up. 12 When Jesus saw her, he called her and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your infirmity." 13 He laid his hands on her, and immediately she stood up straight and glorified God.

14 The ruler of the synagogue, being indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the multitude, "There are six days in which men ought to work. Therefore come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day!"

15 Therefore the Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Doesn’t each one of you free his ox or his donkey from the stall on the Sabbath and lead him away to water? 16 Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham whom Satan had bound eighteen long years, be freed from this bondage on the Sabbath day?"

17 As he said these things, all his adversaries were disappointed; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

18 He said, "What is God’s Kingdom like? To what shall I compare it? 19 It is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and put in his own garden. It grew and became a large tree, and the birds of the sky live in its branches."

20 Again he said, "To what shall I compare God’s Kingdom? 21 It is like yeast, which a woman took and hid in three measures *13:21 literally, three sata. 3 sata is about 39 liters or a bit more than a bushel. of flour, until it was all leavened."

22 He went on his way through cities and villages, teaching, and traveling on to Jerusalem. 23 One said to him, "Lord, are they few who are saved?"

He said to them, 24 "Strive to enter in by the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will seek to enter in and will not be able. 25 When once the master of the house has risen up and has shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ then he will answer and tell you, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’ 26 Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’ 27 He will say, ‘I tell you, I don’t know where you come from. Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity.’ 28 There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in God’s Kingdom, and yourselves being thrown outside. 29 They will come from the east, west, north, and south, and will sit down in God’s Kingdom. 30 Behold, there are some who are last who will be first, and there are some who are first who will be last."

31 On that same day, some Pharisees came, saying to him, "Get out of here and go away, for Herod wants to kill you."

32 He said to them, "Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I complete my mission. 33 Nevertheless I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the next day, for it can’t be that a prophet would perish outside of Jerusalem.’

34 "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, like a hen gathers her own brood under her wings, and you refused! 35 Behold, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’" ✝13:35 Psalms 118:26
