1 And Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel.2 And he said to them, I am a hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no longer go out and come in: and Yahweh has said to me, You will not go over this Jordan.3 Yahweh your God, he will go over before you; he will destroy these nations from before you, and you will dispossess them: [and] Joshua, he will go over before you, as Yahweh has spoken.4 And Yahweh will do to them as he did to Sihon and to Og, the kings of the Amorites, and to their land; whom he destroyed.5 And Yahweh will deliver them up before you{+}, and you{+} will do to them according to all [of] the commandment which I have commanded you{+}.6 Be strong and of good courage, don't fear, nor be afraid of them: for Yahweh your God, it is he who goes with you; he will not fail you, nor forsake you.7 And Moses called to Joshua, and said to him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of good courage: for you will bring this people into the land which Yahweh has sworn to their fathers to give them; and you will cause them to inherit it.8 And Yahweh, it is he who goes before you; he will be with you, he will not fail you, neither forsake you: don't be afraid, neither be dismayed.9 And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it to the priests, the sons of Levi, that bore the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, and to all the elders of Israel.10 And Moses commanded them, saying, At the end of [every] seven year period, in the set time of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles,11 when all Israel has come to see the face of Yahweh your God in the place which he will choose, you will read this law before all Israel in their hearing.12 Assemble the people, the men and the women and the little ones, and your sojourner who is inside your gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear Yahweh your{+} God, and observe to do all the words of this law;13 and that their sons, who haven't known, may hear, and learn to fear Yahweh your{+} God, as long as you{+} live in the land where you{+} go over the Jordan to possess it.14 And Yahweh said to Moses, Look, your days approach that you must die: call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tent of meeting, that I may give him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the tent of meeting.15 And Yahweh appeared in the Tent in a pillar of cloud: and the pillar of cloud stood over the door of the Tent.16 And Yahweh said to Moses, Look, you will sleep with your fathers; and this people will rise up, and prostitute after the strange gods of the land, where they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.17 Then my anger will be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they will be devoured, and many evils and troubles will come upon them; so that they will say in that day, Haven't these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?18 And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evil which they will have wrought, in that they have turned to other gods.19 Now therefore you{+} write this song for yourselves, and you teach it to the sons of Israel: put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the sons of Israel.20 For when I will have brought them into the land which I swore to their fathers, flowing with milk and honey, and they will have eaten and filled themselves, and waxed fat; then they will turn to other gods, and serve them, and despise me, and break my covenant.21 And it will come to pass, when many evils and troubles come upon them, that this song will testify before them as a witness; for it will not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed: for I know their imagination which they frame this day, before I have brought them into the land which I swore.22 So Moses wrote this song the same day, and taught it to the sons of Israel.23 And he [Yahweh] gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge, and said, Be strong and of good courage; for you will bring the sons of Israel into the land which I swore to them: and I will be with you.24 And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished,25 that Moses commanded the Levites, that bore the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, saying,26 Take this book of the law, and put it by the side of the ark of the covenant of Yahweh your{+} God, that it may be there for a witness against you.27 For I know your rebellion, and your stiff neck: look, while I am yet alive with you{+} this day, you{+} have been rebellious against Yahweh; and how much more after my death?28 Assemble to me all the elders of your{+} tribes, and your{+} officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and earth to witness against them.29 For I know that after my death you{+} will completely corrupt yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you{+}; and evil will befall you{+} in the latter days; because you{+} will do that which is evil in the sight of Yahweh, to provoke him to anger through the work of your{+} hands.30 And Moses spoke in the ears of all the assembly of Israel the words of this song, until they were finished.

1 Moisés disse ainda estas palavras a todo o Israel:2 "Estou com cento e vinte anos de idade e já não sou capaz de liderá-los. O Senhor me disse: ‘Você não atravessará o Jordão’.3 O Senhor, o seu Deus, o atravessará pessoalmente à frente de vocês. Ele destruirá estas nações perante vocês, e vocês tomarão posse da terra delas. Josué também atravessará à frente de vocês, conforme o Senhor disse.4 E o Senhor fará com eles como fez com Seom e Ogue, os reis dos amorreus, os quais destruiu juntamente com a sua terra.5 O Senhor os entregará a vocês, e vocês deverão fazer com eles tudo o que lhes ordenei.6 Sejam fortes e corajosos. Não tenham medo nem fiquem apavorados por causa deles, pois o Senhor, o seu Deus, vai com vocês; nunca os deixará, nunca os abandonará".7 Então Moisés convocou Josué e lhe disse na presença de todo o Israel: "Seja forte e corajoso, pois você irá com este povo para a terra que o Senhor jurou aos seus antepassados que lhes daria, e você a repartirá entre eles como herança.8 O próprio Senhor irá à sua frente e estará com você; ele nunca o deixará, nunca o abandonará. Não tenha medo! Não se desanime! "9 Moisés escreveu esta lei e a deu aos sacerdotes, filhos de Levi, que transportavam a arca da aliança do Senhor, e a todos os líderes de Israel.10 E Moisés lhes ordenou: "Ao final de cada sete anos, no ano do cancelamento das dívidas, durante a festa das Cabanas,11 quando todo o Israel vier apresentar-se ao Senhor, ao seu Deus, no local que ele escolher, vocês lerão esta lei perante eles para que a escutem.12 Reúnam o povo, homens, mulheres e crianças, e os estrangeiros que morarem nas suas cidades, para que ouçam e aprendam a temer o Senhor, o seu Deus, e sigam fielmente todas as palavras desta lei.13 Os seus filhos, que não conhecem esta lei, terão que ouvi-la e aprender a temer o Senhor, o seu Deus, enquanto vocês viverem na terra da qual tomarão posse quando atravessarem o Jordão".14 O Senhor disse a Moisés: "O dia da sua morte se aproxima. Chame Josué e apresentem-se na Tenda do Encontro, onde darei incumbências a ele". Então Moisés e Josué vieram e se apresentaram na Tenda do Encontro.15 Então o Senhor apareceu na Tenda, numa coluna de nuvem, e a coluna pairou sobre a entrada da Tenda.16 E o Senhor disse a Moisés: "Você vai descansar com os seus antepassados, e este povo logo irá prostituir-se, seguindo aos deuses estrangeiros da terra em que vão entrar. Eles se esquecerão de mim e quebrarão a aliança que fiz com eles.17 Naquele dia se acenderá a minha ira contra eles e eu me esquecerei deles; esconderei deles o meu rosto, e eles serão destruídos. Muitas desgraças e sofrimentos os atingirão, e naquele dia perguntarão: "Será que essas desgraças não estão acontecendo conosco porque o nosso Deus não está mais conosco? "18 E com certeza esconderei o meu rosto deles naquele dia, por causa de todo o mal que praticaram, voltando-se para outros deuses.19 "Agora escrevam para vocês esta canção, ensinem-na aos israelitas e façam-nos cantá-la, para que seja uma testemunha a meu favor contra eles.20 Quando eu os tiver introduzido na terra onde manam leite e mel, terra que prometi sob juramento aos seus antepassados, e quando tiverem comido com fartura e tiverem prosperado, eles se voltarão para outros deuses e os adorarão, rejeitando-me e quebrando a minha aliança.21 E, quando muitas desgraças e dificuldades lhes sobrevierem, esta canção testemunhará contra eles, porque não será esquecida pelos seus descendentes. Sei o que estão dispostos a fazer antes mesmo de levá-los para a terra que lhes prometi sob juramento".22 Então, naquele dia, Moisés escreveu esta canção e ensinou-a aos israelitas.23 O Senhor deu esta ordem a Josué, filho de Num: "Seja forte e corajoso, pois você conduzirá os israelitas à terra que lhes prometi sob juramento, e eu próprio estarei com você".24 Depois que Moisés terminou de escrever num livro as palavras desta lei do início ao fim,25 deu esta ordem aos levitas que transportavam a arca da aliança do Senhor:26 "Coloquem este Livro da Lei ao lado da arca da aliança do Senhor, do seu Deus, onde ficará como testemunha contra vocês.27 Pois sei quão rebeldes e obstinados vocês são. Se vocês têm sido rebeldes contra o Senhor enquanto ainda estou vivo, quanto mais depois que eu morrer!28 Reúnam na minha presença todos os líderes das suas tribos e todos os seus oficiais, para que eu fale estas palavras de modo que ouçam, e ainda invoquem os céus e a terra para testemunharem contra eles.29 Pois sei que depois da minha morte vocês com certeza se corromperão e se afastarão do caminho que lhes ordenei. Nos dias futuros a desgraça cairá sobre vocês, porque vocês farão o que o Senhor reprova e o provocarão à ira por aquilo que as mãos de vocês terão feito".30 E Moisés recitou as palavras desta canção, do começo ao fim, na presença de toda a assembléia de Israel:
