1 And the two angels came to Sodom at evening; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot saw them, and rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face to the earth;2 and he said, Look now, my lords, turn aside, I pray you{+}, into your{+} slave's house, and spend the night, and wash your{+} feet, and you{+} will rise up early, and go on your{+} way. And they said, No; but we will spend the night in the street.3 And he urged them greatly; and they turned in to him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, surrounded the house, both young and old, all the people from every quarter;5 and they called to Lot, and said to him, Where are the men who came in to you this night? Bring them out to us, that we may have sex with them.6 And Lot went out the door to them, and shut the door after him.7 And he said, I pray you{+}, my brothers, don't act so wickedly.8 Look now, I have two daughters that haven't had any sex with a man; let me, I pray you{+}, bring them out to you{+}, and do to them as is good in your{+} eyes: only to these men do nothing, since they have come under the shadow of my roof.9 And they said, Stand back. And they said, This one fellow came in to sojourn and always judges: now we will deal worse with you, than with them. And they pressed intensely on the man, even Lot, and drew near to break the door.10 But the men put forth their hand, and brought Lot into the house to them, and shut the door.11 And they struck the men who were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they wearied themselves to find the door.12 And the men said to Lot, Whomever belongs to you here, a son-in-law, and your sons, and your daughters, and whomever you have in the city, bring them out of the place:13 for we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxed great before Yahweh: and Yahweh has sent us to destroy it.14 And Lot went out, and spoke to his sons-in-law, who married his daughters, and said, Get up, go out of this place; for Yahweh will destroy the city. But he seemed to his sons-in-law as one who mocked.15 And when the morning arose, the angels then hurried Lot, saying, Arise, take your wife, and your two daughters who are here, or else you will be consumed in the iniquity of the city.16 But he lingered; and the men laid hold on his hand, and on the hand of his wife, and on the hand of his two daughters, Yahweh being merciful to him; and they brought him forth, and set him outside the city.17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for your life; don't look behind you, neither stop in all the Plain; escape to the mountain, or else you will be consumed.18 And Lot said to them, Oh, not so, my lord:19 now see that your slave has found favor in your sight, and you have magnified your loving-kindness, which you have shown to me in saving my life; and I can't escape to the mountain, or else evil will stick to me, and I will die:20 now see this city that is near to flee to, and it is a little one. Oh let me escape there--isn't it a little one?--and my soul will live.21 And he said to him, See, I have accepted you concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken.22 Hurry, escape there; for I can't do anything until you have come there. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.23 The sun was risen on the earth when Lot came to Zoar.24 Then Yahweh rained on Sodom and on Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Yahweh out of heaven;25 and he overthrew those cities, and all the Plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew on the ground.26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.27 And Abraham got up early in the morning to the place where he had stood before Yahweh:28 and he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and over the whole surface of the land (of the [Jordan] valley), and looked, and saw that the smoke of the land went up as the smoke of a furnace.29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the Plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelt.30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.31 And the firstborn said to the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man on the earth to come in to us after the manner of all the earth:32 come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he didn't know when she lay down, nor when she arose.34 And it came to pass on the next day, that the firstborn said to the younger, Look, I lay last night with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and you go in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he didn't know when she lay down, nor when she arose.36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot pregnant by their father.37 And the firstborn bore a son, and named him Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites to this day.38 And the younger, she also bore a son, and named him Ben-ammi: the same is the father of the sons of Ammon to this day.

1 Os dois anjos chegaram a Sodoma ao anoitecer, e Ló estava sentado à porta da cidade. Quando os avistou, levantou-se e foi recebê-los. Prostrou-se, rosto em terra,2 e disse: "Meus senhores, por favor, acompanhem-me à casa do seu servo. Lá poderão lavar os pés, passar a noite e, pela manhã, seguir caminho. Não, passaremos a noite na praça", responderam.3 Mas ele insistiu tanto com eles que, finalmente, o acompanharam e entraram em sua casa. Ló mandou preparar-lhes uma refeição e assar pão sem fermento, e eles comeram.4 Ainda não tinham ido deitar-se, quando todos os homens de toda parte da cidade de Sodoma, dos mais jovens aos mais velhos, cercaram a casa.5 Chamaram Ló e lhe disseram: "Onde estão os homens que vieram à sua casa esta noite? Traga-os para nós aqui fora para que tenhamos relações com eles".6 Ló saiu da casa, fechou a porta atrás de si7 e lhes disse: "Não, meus amigos! Não façam essa perversidade!8 Olhem, tenho duas filhas que ainda são virgens. Vou trazê-las para que vocês façam com elas o que bem entenderem. Mas não façam nada a estes homens, porque se acham debaixo da proteção do meu teto".9 "Saia da frente! ", gritaram. E disseram: "Este homem chegou aqui como estrangeiro, e agora quer ser o juiz! Faremos a você pior do que a eles". Então empurraram Ló com violência e avançaram para arrombar a porta.10 Nisso, os dois visitantes agarraram Ló, puxaram-no para dentro e fecharam a porta.11 Depois feriram de cegueira os homens que estavam à porta da casa, dos mais jovens aos mais velhos, de maneira que não conseguiam encontrar a porta.12 Os dois homens perguntaram a Ló: "Você tem mais alguém na cidade — genros, filhos ou filhas, ou qualquer outro parente? Tire-os daqui,13 porque estamos para destruir este lugar. As acusações feitas ao Senhor contra este povo são tantas que ele nos enviou para destruir a cidade".14 Então Ló foi falar com seus genros, os quais iam casar-se com suas filhas, e lhes disse: "Saiam imediatamente deste lugar, porque o Senhor está para destruir a cidade! " Mas eles pensaram que ele estava brincando.15 Ao raiar do dia, os anjos insistiam com Ló, dizendo: "Depressa! Leve daqui sua mulher e suas duas filhas, ou vocês também serão mortos quando a cidade for castigada".16 Tendo ele hesitado, os homens o agarraram pela mão, como também a mulher e as duas filhas, e os tiraram dali à força e os deixaram fora da cidade, porque o Senhor teve misericórdia deles.17 Assim que os tiraram da cidade, um deles disse a Ló: "Fuja por amor à vida! Não olhe para trás e não pare em lugar nenhum da planície! Fuja para as montanhas, ou você será morto! "18 Ló, porém, lhes disse: "Não, meu senhor!19 Seu servo foi favorecido por sua benevolência, pois o senhor foi bondoso comigo, poupando-me a vida. Não posso fugir para as montanhas, se não esta calamidade cairá sobre mim, e morrerei.20 Aqui perto há uma cidade pequena. Está tão próxima que dá para correr até lá. Deixe-me ir para lá! Mesmo sendo tão pequena, lá estarei a salvo".21 "Está bem", respondeu ele. "Também lhe atenderei esse pedido; não destruirei a cidade da qual você fala.22 Fuja depressa, porque nada poderei fazer enquanto você não chegar lá". Por isso a cidade foi chamada Zoar.23 Quando Ló chegou a Zoar, o sol já havia nascido sobre a terra.24 Então o Senhor, o próprio Senhor, fez chover do céu fogo e enxofre sobre Sodoma e Gomorra.25 Assim ele destruiu aquelas cidades e toda a planície, com todos os habitantes das cidades e a vegetação.26 Mas a mulher de Ló olhou para trás e se transformou numa coluna de sal.27 Na manhã seguinte, Abraão se levantou e voltou ao lugar onde tinha estado diante do Senhor.28 E olhou para Sodoma e Gomorra, para toda a planície, e viu uma densa fumaça subindo da terra, como fumaça de uma fornalha.29 Quando Deus arrasou as cidades da planície, lembrou-se de Abraão e tirou Ló do meio da catástrofe que destruiu as cidades onde Ló vivia.30 Ló partiu de Zoar com suas duas filhas e passou a viver nas montanhas, porque tinha medo de permanecer em Zoar. Ele e suas duas filhas ficaram morando numa caverna.31 Um dia, a filha mais velha disse à mais jovem: "Nosso pai já está velho, e não há homens nas redondezas que nos possuam, segundo o costume de toda a terra.32 Vamos dar vinho a nosso pai e então nos deitaremos com ele para preservar a linhagem de nosso pai".33 Naquela noite deram vinho ao pai, e a filha mais velha entrou e se deitou com ele. E ele não percebeu quando ela se deitou nem quando se levantou.34 No dia seguinte a filha mais velha disse à mais nova: "Ontem à noite deitei-me com meu pai. Vamos dar-lhe vinho também esta noite, e você se deitará com ele, para que preservemos a linhagem de nosso pai".35 Então, outra vez deram vinho ao pai naquela noite, e a mais nova foi e se deitou com ele. E ele não percebeu quando ela se deitou nem quando se levantou.36 Assim, as duas filhas de Ló engravidaram do próprio pai.37 A mais velha teve um filho, e deu-lhe o nome de Moabe; este é o pai dos moabitas de hoje.38 A mais nova também teve um filho, e deu-lhe o nome de Ben-Ami; este é o pai dos amonitas de hoje.
