1 And Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.2 And Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her; And he took her, and lay with her, and humbled her.3 And his soul stuck to Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the damsel, and spoke kindly to the damsel.4 And Shechem spoke to his father Hamor, saying, Get me this damsel as wife.5 Now Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter; and his sons were with his cattle in the field: and Jacob held his peace until they came.6 And Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to commune with him.7 And the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it: and the men were grieved, and they were very angry, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob's daughter; which thing ought not to be done.8 And Hamor communed with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem longs for your{+} daughter: I pray you{+}, give her to him as wife.9 And make{+} marriages with us; give your{+} daughters to us, and take our daughters to you{+}.10 And you{+} will dwell with us: and the land will be before you{+}; dwell and trade in it, and get possessions in it.11 And Shechem said to her father and to her brothers, Let me find favor in your{+} eyes, and what you{+} will say to me, I will give.12 Ask me ever so much dowry and gift, and I will give according to as you{+} will say to me: but give me the damsel as wife.13 And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father with guile, and spoke, because he had defiled Dinah their sister,14 and said to them, We can't do this thing, to give our sister to one who is uncircumcised; for that would be a reproach to us.15 Only on this condition we will consent to you{+}: if you{+} will be as we are, that every male of you{+} is circumcised;16 then we will give our daughters to you{+}, and we will take your{+} daughters to us, and we will dwell with you{+}, and we will become one people.17 But if you{+} will not listen to us, to be circumcised; then we will take our daughter, and we will be gone.18 And their words pleased Hamor, and Shechem Hamor's son.19 And the young man didn't defer to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob's daughter: and he was honored above all the house of his father.20 And Hamor and Shechem his son came to the gate of their city, and communed with the men of their city, saying,21 These men are peaceful with us; so let them dwell in the land, and trade in it; for, look, the land is large enough for them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters.22 Only on this condition will the men consent to us to dwell with us, to become one people, if every male among us be circumcised, as they are circumcised.23 Will not their cattle and their substance and all their beasts be ours? Only let us consent to them, and they will dwell with us.24 And to Hamor and to Shechem his son listened all who went out of the gate of his city; and every male was circumcised, all who went out of the gate of his city.25 And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, took each man his sword, and came upon the city unawares, and slew all the males.26 And they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went forth.27 The sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and plundered the city, because they had defiled their sister.28 They took their flocks and their herds and their donkeys, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field;29 and all their wealth, and all their little ones and their wives, they captured and plundered, as well as all that was in the houses.30 And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, You{+} have troubled me, to make me odious to the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and, I being few in number, they will gather themselves together against me and strike me; and I will be destroyed, I and my house.31 And they said, Should he deal with our sister as with a prostitute?

1 Certa vez, Diná, a filha que Lia dera a Jacó, saiu para conhecer as mulheres daquela terra.2 Siquém, filho de Hamor, o heveu, governador daquela região, viu-a, agarrou-a e violentou-a.3 Mas o seu coração foi atraído por Diná, filha de Jacó, e ele amou a moça e falou-lhe com ternura.4 Por isso Siquém foi dizer a seu pai Hamor: "Consiga-me aquela moça para que seja minha mulher".5 Quando Jacó soube que sua filha Diná tinha sido desonrada, seus filhos estavam no campo, com os rebanhos; por isso esperou calado, até que regressassem.6 Então Hamor, pai de Siquém, foi conversar com Jacó.7 Quando os filhos de Jacó voltaram do campo e souberam de tudo, ficaram profundamente entristecidos e irados, porque Siquém tinha cometido um ato vergonhoso em Israel, ao deitar-se com a filha de Jacó — coisa que não se faz.8 Mas Hamor lhes disse: "Meu filho Siquém apaixonou-se pela filha de vocês. Por favor, entreguem-na a ele para que seja sua mulher.9 Casem-se entre nós; dêem-nos suas filhas e tomem para si as nossas.10 Estabeleçam-se entre nós. A terra está aberta para vocês: Habitem-na, façam comércio nela e adquiram propriedades".11 Então Siquém disse ao pai e aos irmãos de Diná: "Concedam-me este favor, e eu lhes darei o que me pedirem.12 Aumentem quanto quiserem o preço e o presente pela noiva, e pagarei o que me pedirem. Tão-somente me dêem a moça por mulher".13 Os filhos de Jacó, porém, responderam com falsidade a Siquém e a seu pai Hamor, por ter Siquém desonrado Diná, a irmã deles.14 Disseram: "Não podemos fazer isso; jamais entregaremos nossa irmã a um homem que não seja circuncidado. Seria uma vergonha para nós.15 Daremos nosso consentimento a vocês com uma condição: que vocês se tornem como nós, circuncidando todos os do sexo masculino.16 Só então lhes daremos as nossas filhas e poderemos casar-nos com as suas. Nós nos estabeleceremos entre vocês e seremos um só povo.17 Mas se não aceitarem circuncidar-se, tomaremos nossa irmã e partiremos".18 A proposta deles pareceu boa a Hamor e a seu filho Siquém.19 O jovem, que era o mais respeitado de todos os da casa de seu pai, não demorou em cumprir o que pediram, porque realmente gostava da filha de Jacó.20 Assim Hamor e seu filho Siquém dirigiram-se à porta da cidade para conversar com os seus concidadãos. E disseram:21 "Esses homens são de paz. Permitam que eles habitem em nossa terra e façam comércio entre nós; a terra tem bastante lugar para eles. Poderemos casar com as suas filhas, e eles com as nossas.22 Mas eles só consentirão em viver conosco como um só povo sob a condição de que todos os nossos homens sejam circuncidados, como eles.23 Lembrem-se de que os seus rebanhos, os seus bens e todos os seus outros animais passarão a ser nossos. Aceitemos então a condição para que se estabeleçam em nosso meio".24 Todos os que saíram para reunir-se à porta da cidade concordaram com Hamor e com seu filho Siquém, e todos os homens e meninos da cidade foram circuncidados.25 Três dias depois, quando ainda sofriam dores, dois filhos de Jacó, Simeão e Levi, irmãos de Diná, pegaram suas espadas e atacaram a cidade desprevenida, matando todos os homens.26 Mataram ao fio da espada Hamor e seu filho Siquém, tiraram Diná da casa de Siquém e partiram.27 Vieram então os outros filhos de Jacó e, passando pelos corpos, saquearam a cidade onde sua irmã tinha sido desonrada.28 Apoderaram-se das ovelhas, dos bois e dos jumentos, e de tudo o que havia na cidade e no campo.29 Levaram as mulheres e as crianças, e saquearam todos os bens e tudo o que havia nas casas.30 Então Jacó disse a Simeão e a Levi: "Vocês me puseram em grandes apuros, atraindo sobre mim o ódio dos cananeus e dos ferezeus, habitantes desta terra. Somos poucos, e se eles juntarem suas forças e nos atacarem, eu e a minha família seremos destruídos".31 Mas eles responderam: "Está certo ele tratar nossa irmã como uma prostituta? "
